Lockout/Tagout Lockout/Tagout procedures are designed to prevent accidents and injuries caused by the unexpected release of energy when equipment is being repaired or maintained. Regulations The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates lockout/tagout through the Control of Hazardous Energy Standard found at 29 CFR 1910.147. This standard mandates training, audits and record-keeping to ensure that workers will not be injured by unintentionally energized equipment. What is Lockout/Tagout Lockout is the process of preventing the flow of energy from a power source to a piece of equipment and keeping it from operating. Lockout is accomplished by installing a lockout device at the power source so that the equipment powered by that source cannot be operated. A lockout device is a lock, block, cable or chain that keeps a switch, valve or lever in the off position. Safety locks are provided and can be used only for lockout purposes. The locks should never be used to lock tool boxes, storage sheds or other items. Tagout is accomplished by placing a tag on the power source. The tag acts as a warning not to restore energy, not as a physical restraint. Tags must clearly state Do Not Operate or the like, and must be applied by hand. What Must Be Locked or Tagged Out The lockout/tagout standard covers servicing and maintenance of equipment where unexpected energization or start-up of equipment could harm employees. 4

Keying System Keying Systems The more machines there are that have to be locked out, the more different keys are needed. But a large number of keys and a confusing key administration are not necessary. Modern keying systems by ABUS are the solution. A locking system is a combination of different locking cylinders that have a certain relation to each other. Depending on what is needed, the functionalities of the cylinder can be bundled and exactly assigned. Within a locking system there are single keys, master keys and grand master keys this makes it possible to distribute certain access rights among different employees. Services UL Environment Validation ABUS s largest factory recently received a prestigious validation from VALIDATED Underwriters Laboratories ABUS HARDWARE LIMITED Environment (ULE). All FACILITY HAS ACHIEVED VIRTUALLY ZERO WASTE TO LANDFILL OPERATIONS IN products manufactured in 2012-98% LANDFILL DIVERSION RATE 72 AND 74 SERIES PADLOCKS this facility including brass CONTAIN AN AVERAGE OF 73% RECYCLED CONTENT padlocks, steel padlocks, UL.COM/ECV plastic padlocks, aluminum padlocks, and combination padlocks along with brass cylinders are now ULE validated. These products are manufactured in the first facility in the world to achieve virtually zero waste to landfill operations in 2012 at a 98% diversion rate. In addition, the ABUS aluminum 72 series and non-conductive 74 series have been awarded a further recognition from ULE, meeting the requirements for a recycled content ULE claim validation. These products contain a combined average of 73% recycled materials. All padlocks offered in the Ecolution Series are also made with cadmiumfree plating, recycled materials and FDA-approved lubricants and are produced in a zero-waste facility.
