COMMAND / HOMELAND SECURITY Model CM1800 Kanawha County Sheriff s Office Charleston, WV The Kanawha County Sheriff s Office determined early on in the investigation of what kind of vehicle they wanted for a bomb unit. It would not be a converted utility body, but a body that would be robust enough to handle the terrain in mountainous region of Charleston, WV. They contacted Hackney, a GSA contractor for homeland security vehicles and a manufacturer who already had a good reputation with the Charleston FD and surrounding community fire departments, to design a vehicle meeting their stringent requirements. Following is a brief description of the end result: Features: Hackney CM1800, 18-ft all-aluminum body using 3x2 and 2x2 aluminum tubular superstructure and 1/8 thick welded exterior panels Robot garage in the rear: roll-up access door on the streetside with bi-fold loading and unloading ramp; 85 headroom in garage using a drop-frame behind the rear axle. COMMAND / HOMELAND SECURITY Model CM1800 This 18-ft body accommodates an array of capabilities for responding to bomb threats as well as other tactical operations related to surveillance and investigative operations requiring special techniques and equipment. The compartment over the rear wheels houses a 32 LED monitor connected to the telescoping camera and other video feeds. The large compartment behind the rear wheels allows the EOD suits to be hung for quick access. A bifold ramps permits easy deployment. An 8kw Onan QuietOne diesel geneset is mounted inside the front compartment. The roll-up door on the right front access a large compartment with adjustable shelves for storage of specialized equipment. A desk area permits two officers to be seated for where logistics and remote operation of the robot can be handled. The stainless steel work counter on the left side functions as a lab area. Special instruments and tools are stored in sized drawers. The SCBA brackets on the back wall are located in the robot garage. The pocket door is shown in the open position.
