Transformer operations Running your Lionel F3B with a Lionel transformer 1 Place your F3B on Lionel or Lionelcompatible Note Please refer to the instructions included with your powered A-unit and non powered A-unit for general operating instructions in the command and non-command applications. Using your F3 B s couplers in the non-command environment To use your F-3 B s coupler in the non- Command environment, you must first couple a piece of rolling stock equipped with Lionel magnetic couplers directly to your F3 B. The magnetic cou- Magnetic coupler on the rolling stock coupled to your F3 B unit pler on the rolling stock will then react to the magnetic field generated by a Lionel remote-control track section (available separately). Place your rolling stock s coupler trigger disc over the central coil of a remote-control track section and press uncouple on the controller. The magnetic field pulls the disc downward, and the coupler opens. Remote-control track section Using your F3 Bs Electrocouplers in the TrainMaster Command environ- Both the front and rear of your Lionel F3B unit are equipped with an Electrocoupler that responds to either the COUPLER F (front) or COUPLER R (rear) button on your CAB-1 remote when operated in the Trainmaster Command environment. Simply press either button on your CAB-1 remote, and that coupler opens. YourF3B s Electrocouplers are NOT designed to be opened manually. 3

Transformer operations Your F3 s Railsounds system the basics L ionel Railsounds is the most realistic model railroad sound system in the world. Your F3 features digital samples f r o m a n a u t h e n t i c F 3 f o r the ultimate in realism. B e g i n b y i n s t a l l i n g a 9-volt alkaline battery in the F3 B unit. This ensures interuption free operation of R a i l - s o u n d s. Remove the t w o e n d screws, lift off the B unit s body. Connect the 9-volt battery to the battery clip and place the battery into the holder. Replace the body and reinsert the end screws. Apply track power and the F3 s Railsounds system delivers an authentic start-up sequence, followed by sounds of the locomotive at idle. As the F3 s speed increases, the RPMs move through four levels of roar. Sounds return Volume adjustment knob to i d l e o n l y after the locom o t i v e h a s come to a complete halt. To silence diesel RPM roar (horn and bell remain u n a f f e c t e d ), s l i d e t h e R a i l s o u n d s switch to its SIG (signal) position before powering up the locom o t i v e. S e e page 7 for the B unit s switch location and positioning. To return to the diesel RPM roar, return the switch to the FULL position. Install a 9-volt alkaline battery in your F3 B unit. Remove the two end screws, lift off the body, connect the battery to the power cord, and place the battery into the holder. Although track voltage powers Railsounds, the battery is required for uninterrupted operation and shutdown sequences. Use only alkaline batteries; do not use heavy duty batteries. Discontinue locomotive power for 10 seconds before changing the Railsounds on/off switch. If Railsounds drops out during track power interrupts, replace the battery. 4

Transformer operations Experiencing the range of your F3 s Railsounds system W ith Railsounds, you experience the sounds of real railroading like never before. Simply put, it s the most sophisticated, authentic model railroad sound system in the world. Four diesel-roar levels. Your F3 s speed determines the level of diesel RPM roar automatically, if you prefer: idle, slow, medium, or full-speed output. MultiHorn TM. A different horn sound every time a Railsounds exclusive. Mechanical bell. Press BELL on your CAB-1 or transformer to begin the effect; again to discontinue. Full control of RPMs. Prefer hands-on control of diesel RPM roar? Want to ramp up RPMs before pulling out, just like real diesels do? It s easy with Railsounds. Place your F3 in neutral and increase track voltage to maximum. RPMs will continue to increase as long as the F3 remains in neutral, eventually reaching their highest level. Now, decrease track voltage to the desired speed level. Press DIR on your CAB-1 remote or transformer, and head out with your F3 B at full churn, just like the real thing. RPMs will remain at that level until the locomotive has come to a complete halt. Experiment with controllable RPMs it s a blast! Reverse unit reset sound. Power down your track, wait for 3.5 seconds, and listen for the air-release sound that s the F3 telling you its Liontech Command reverse unit has just reset to forward operation. Shutdown sequence. No other model railroad sound system shuts down like Railsounds. Turn off track power, and after the air-release reset sound, you have 2 seconds to restart your F3. If you re done with operations, Railsounds will commence with an authentic F3 shutdown sequence about 2 seconds after the airrelease reset occurs. 5

Transformer operations Notes on Railsounds Use the F3 B unit s roof-mounted radiator fan volume control to adjust sound output. (See page 4 for its location.) Listen for incidental locomotive sounds during Railsounds operat i o n. T h e y re a u t o m a t i c a n d, o f course, authentic. The 9-volt alk aline batter y you installed ensures continuous F3 diesel roar. Longer track-power interruptions (including locomotive derailments) cause Railsounds to shut down after about 7 seconds. F o r e v e n m o r e a u t h e n t i c Railsounds effects, operate in the TrainMaster Command environment. 6

Installing the Lionel no. 610-5906-001 sound activation button o operate the bell and horn sounds when T operating your F3 set with conventional transformers, you ll need to install the Lionel no. 610-5906-001 sound activation button (available separately). TrainMaster Command operations The Command control environment Lionel T rainmaster Command is the advanced model railroad control system from Lionel. Your F3B non-powered is equipped with the Lionel LCRX for digital control. TrainMaster Command gives you the power to operate multiple Commandequipped locomotives on the same track, at the same time. To operate in Command, you need a Command Base and a CAB-1 remote. Find them both at your authorized Lionel retailer. 1 Place your F3B on Lionel or Lionelcompatible Make sure track power is OFF before placing it on the track. Make sure your Lionel Command Base is ON and its communications wire is connected to the COMMON post on your Lionel transformer or the U on any of your installed PowerMasters. Once positioned on the track, increase track voltage to FULL (on PowerMaster, slide the CMD/CONV switch to CMD). 2 Address your F3B using CAB-1. Press ENG and 1 on the numeric keypad of your CAB-1 remote. This command is sent by CAB-1 to the Command Base, which then translates your command into digital code. That code is sent around your railroad s outside rails in the form of a digital halo. All Commandequipped Lionels listen to this digital communication, but they do not respond until they hear their individual ID number in this case, 1. The digital language of TrainMaster Command and not track power controls the actions of Command-equipped Lionels. Track power is simply like gasoline in the tank of your car it gives you the power to go places, but it doesn t tell you where to go or how fast to get there. All Command-equipped Lionels come factory-programmed with an ID# of 1. To change the ID# of your F3B (equipped with an LCRX) see next page. 8

Advanced TrainMaster Command operations 12 Getting the most from your non-pow- Your new non-powered Lionel F3B, is a great addition to your F3A powered and non-powered A unit set. To take full advantage of the built-in features of your new Lionel F3B unit in the command control environment, some advanced operating techniques are recommended. Building lash-ups When real railroads operate two, three, or even four locomotives together, they call it a lash-up. A lash-up is railroading s answer to steep grades, long trains, and extraheavy loads. In the TrainMaster Command system, lashups are addressed as TRAINS -the TR button on CAB-1. When you build lash-ups with TrainMaster Command, several engines are grouped under a single TR ID#. Lash-up building should be attempted only after you ve mastered ordinary TrainMaster Command operations. Pick the locomotives in your lash-up and move them together (but don t couple them) using ENG and each one s ID#. Because CAB- 1 s TR.button also means TRACK for PowerMaster control, select a TRAIN (TR) ID# that is NOT a number identifying PowerMaster TRACKs. For example, if you re using four PowerMasters and have named their TRACKs 1,2,3, and 4, choose a number between 5 and 9 for your TRAIN ID#. Finally, make certain the locomotive s direction switch is on FORWARD/RUN. Perform a locomotive reset (AUX1, 0) to see what the locomotive s first-start direction is. It s possible to have a contrary locomotive that s simply following the direction of the reverse unit control switch. build a Train # (you select) using engine numbers you All ENGINES reverse unit control switches set to FORWARD Address each engine individually with its engine ID Move each engine into position; do not couple them Front locomotive should be positioned in the forward direction (in most cases cab in front); middle and rear locomotives should be positioned the way you In Train # (you select), assign the powered A and non powered B engine using the F (front) button: H e a r Press TR Press? If you press a wrong button while building a lash-up, start over with that particular locomotive assignment at the TR command; the assignment isn t sent until you press SET.

Advanced TrainMaster Command operations Building lash-ups It s still an ENGINE. Whenever a locomotive is in a lash-up, you can still individually address it (using its ENG ID#) to adjust lighting, open individual couplers, and tune performance. When set up as a lash-up this way, both the B unit and the non-powered A unit will have RailSounds. Bell sounds, Towercom, Crewtalk, will only sound from the B unit. (Horn, brakes and diesel sounds will be functional in B and nonpowered A) Non-powered A unit If any engine in the lashup faces backwards, press DIR before SET Assign the lash-up s rear locomotive (engine #?? facing backwards) using the R (rear) button Press TR Press? If an engine is out of sync after a TR reset, read lash-up troubleshooting on page 26 of your Trainmaster Instruction Manual 13

Maintaining and servicing your F3B Replacing your F3 B-unit s rear directional lamp Your F3B backup light is illuminated by a 14-volt lamp. During the course of normal operation, it may require replacement. Separate the plastic body shell from the frame by removing the front and rear screws on the ends of the body. Lift the body up, taking care not to pull out the wires that are attached to the inside of the body shell. T h e l a m p fits inside a holder, with its p r o n g s Lionel part no. 610-8049-300 plugged into a socket. Carefully pull out the lamp and socket assembly and disconnect the lamp from the socket. Replace the lamp with Lionel part no. 610-8049-300, available from your local Lionel Authorized Service Center or Lionel Service. (For more information, see page 12.) Plug the replacement lamp into the socket, then reinsert the assembly into the holder. To reinstall the shell, line up t h e s c r e w holes on the f r a m e a n d body shell, and reinsert the screws. Make sure all of the wires are inside the body before you tighten the screws. Rear directional light Press Aux2 to make sure lamp was not accidently turned off, before replacing bulb 14 The F3B s backup light illuminates whenever your F3 set operates in reverse (only when your engine is at the end of a lash-up).

Maintaining and servicing your F3B Lubricating your F3 B Help your Lionel F3 B lead a long and productive life on your railroad by maintaining it properly. We recommend you purchase a Lionel 929 Lubrication and Maintenance kit (no. 6-62927), available from your Lionel dealer. Two basic rules to keep in mind: never over-lubricate (a small amount will do), and avoid getting oil on the F3 s wheels, contact rollers, or your track. You ll know your F3 requires lubrication when visual inspection reveals dryness on the parts indicated in the illustration. Remove accumulated dirt and dust before lubricating, and always lubricate any locomotive emerging from prolonged storage. Lubricate areas marked by arrows with Lionel oil sparingly Underside of F3 B-unit 15
