V6 VERTICAL BOOSTER PUMP OWNER'S MANUAL BEFORE INSTALLING PUMP, BE SURE TO READ THIS OWNER S MANUAL CAREFULLY. C A U T I O N Mechanical shaft seals must not run dry. Fill pump with water before starting or pump will be damaged. The motor on this pump is guaranteed by the manufacturer and in event of failure it must be returned to an authorized service station for repairs. Motor warranty is void if repairs aren t made by an authorized repair station. INSPECT THE SHIPMENT Examine the pump when it is received to be sure there has been no damage in shipping. Should any be evident, report it immediately to the transportation company and ask to have it inspected. Check the pump and motor nameplate to ensure you have received the correct pump unit. READ AND FOLLOW SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS This is the safety alert symbol. When you see this symbol on your pump or in this manual, look for one of the following signal words and be alert to the potential for personal injury: D A N G E R warns about hazards that will cause serious personal injury, death or major property damage if ignored. W A R N I N G warns about hazards that can cause serious personal injury, death or major property damage if ignored. C A U T I O N warns about hazards that will or can cause minor personal injury or major property damage if ignored. The label NOTICE indicates special instructions, which are important but not related to hazards. WA R N I N G Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or cause death. Ground pump before connecting to power supply. Disconnect power before working on pump, motor or tank. Carefully read and follow all safety instructions in this manual and on pump. Keep safety labels in good condition. Replace missing or damaged safety labels. Wire motor for correct voltage. See Electrical section of this manual and motor nameplate. Ground motor before connecting to power supply. Meet National Electrical Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and local codes for all wiring. Follow wiring instructions in this manual when connecting motor to power lines. V6 SPECIFICATIONS 1. Pump capacities to 110 gpm, heads to 560 ft. 2. Bottom suction. 3. Inlet pressure - do not exceed 10 lift. 4. Outlet pressure 150 PSI maximum. (300 on 7.5 hp V6 50) 5. Maximum operation temperature 120 F. (49 C) 6. Heavy-duty motor bearing system to handle both radial and axial thrust loads.

7. Rotatable suction and discharge, in 90 degree increments. 8. Motor has open drip proof enclosure 1.5 to 7.5 hp for the 50 gpm series and 3 to 7.5 hp for the 75 gpm series. INSTALLATION LOCATION - Locate the pump as close to the water source as possible. (This will reduce the suction lift and pipe friction losses to give maximum output.) The location should also be a dry, well-ventilated area which is not subject to extreme temperatures. Concrete or similar foundation material should be used to provide a secure mounting base for the pump (See Fig. 1). SUCTION PIPE- Keep the suction pipe as straight and short as possible to keep friction losses to a minimum. Install horizontal pipes to slope upward to the pump and avoid attaching an elbow to the pump inlet. A gate valve should only be used in the suction pipe. Use a foot valve when pumping from a well or sump, and submerge the foot valve suffi ciently to prevent air from being drawn into the system by a vortex. All suction connections must be made airtight, using a pipe sealant compound. DISCHARGE PIPE- Always size pipe and fi ttings to minimize friction losses. A check valve and isolation valve should be installed in the discharge pipe. Pipe, valves and fi ttings must have a pressure rating equal to or greater than the maximum system pressure. Always ensure the system piping is thoroughly cleaned prior to pipe installation. In order to always have fl ow through the pump, install a bypass or pressure relief valve in the discharge. This will prevent the pump from operating against a closed valve. W A R N I N G Never operate pump at shut-off. FIGURE 1- TYPICAL INSTALLATION variation in voltage of more than 10%. C A U T I O N Motors do not have thermal overloads. Protection must be provided by installer. PUMP PRIMING To prime the pump, close the discharge isolation valve and remove the priming plug from the bracket. Fill the suction pipe, pump and discharge line with water. If the suction pipe does not slope downward from the pump toward the water level, the air must be vented while being fi lled. A suction line foot valve may be required to contain the priming water in the pump. Replace the priming plug. W A R N I N G Never operate pump dry. Always verify that the pump has been primed. CHECK MOTOR ROTATION 1. Verify pump has been primed and is wired in accordance with the wiring diagram on the motor nameplate. 2. Apply power momentarily by turning the line switch quickly on and off. Observe the direction or rotation. When viewed from above the motor VB6 units rotate counter-clockwise. 3. Interchange any two line leads to change rotation direction for three phase units. 4. Verify correct rotation. PUMP START-UP Before starting pump, verify pump is primed and wired for the correct rotation. Start the pump with the discharge valve closed. Gradually open the valve fully and allow pump to run. If pump fails to produce water within 3 minutes, slowly open the stainless coin operated bleed valve located on the pump motor bracket. (This will purge both air and water out of the pump.) W A R N I N G Never operate pump for any extended time against a closed valve. MOTOR REPLACEMENT If motor is damaged and requires replacement, it must be of the same NEMA C frame size, and must be equipped with the same or better bearing system, proper horsepower and service factor are also critical to pump performance and operation. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in premature motor failure. ELECTRICAL HOOKUP Employ a licensed electrician to do the wiring. All wiring must be done in accordance with applicable national and local codes. Check that the power supply corresponds with electrical rating of the pump motor. The proper operating voltage and other electrical information can be found on the motor nameplate. Never operate the pump with a DISASSEMBLY 1. Disconnect the power supply. 2. Loosen the coupling set screws, do not remove them. 3. Remove the four bolts which attach the motor to the pump end. 4. Lift the motor straight up until the shaft is free from the coupling. ASSEMBLY 1. Clean the mating surfaces of the motor and pump end.

2. Align coupling set screws with the motor shaft keyway and place the motor on the bracket. 3. Using a screwdriver, lift the coupling through its range of motion. Then set the coupling at the midpoint of this motion. Tighten the top set screw. 4. A recess hole should be drilled in the motor shaft keyway to accommodate one of the set screws. This will increase the coupling holding strength. 5. To drill recess hole in motor shaft; A. Mark the motor shaft set screw location to be drilled. B. Loosen the top set screw. C. Lift the motor straight up until shaft is free from the coupling. D. Score or punch shaft marking to prevent drill bit from walking. E. Drill a hole to specifi cations listed in Table 1. C A U T I O N Failure to drill recess hole in motor shaft for coupling set screw could cause premature failure. TABLE 1 - SHAFT COUPLING INSTALLATION RECESSED HOLE SPECIFICATION DIA. x DEPTH HP 3/16 x 1/32 1.5-2 3/16 x 1/16 3 1/4 x 1/16 5 1/4 x 1/16 7.5 6. Install motor back onto pump bracket by aligning coupling set screw with the motor shaft key. 7. Insert the mounting bolts and tighten evenly in a diagonal pattern. 8. Using a screwdriver, lift the coupling through its range of motion, then set the coupling at the midpoint of this motion. Be sure the recessed hole lines up with coupling set screw. Apply serviceable Loctite to coupling set screws and torque 5/16 dia. set screws to 11 ft/lbs. (1.5 thru 3 hp) and 3/8 dia. set screws to 20 ft/lbs. (5 thru 7.5 hp). 9.
