Golf Cart Parade Rules and Regulations Entry Guidelines All Golf Cart Parade entry forms are due to the Student Involvement Center (Busch Student Center 319) or emailed to Andrew Cobb (acobb8@slu.edu) by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 20 th 2013. General Criteria Keys will be distributed at the specified parking garage at 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 28 th 2013. Drivers will need to have their SLU ID and driver s license to receive keys. SLU IDs will be held until the golf cart keys have been returned to a member of the Student Activities Board (SAB) Executive Board or the SAB advisor after the parade. Following the parade, golf carts will be returned and completely cleaned of decorations to the designated parking garage. Organizations/Departments/Offices are responsible for golf cart decoration tear down and return of keys and cart to the designated parking garage by 8:00 pm on the day of the parade. All golf carts and keys must be returned at this time for the carts to be returned to the rental company the following day. All entries must be in the line-up location September 28 th 2013 at 5:30 pm. Should any entries not be in place in the line up location by 5:30 pm, they will be disqualified from competition. A description of the float, rough sketch or drawing, and text that will be placed on the cart are required information. This information must be turned in with the parade application. The theme of this year s homecoming parade is Meet Me In St. Louis. As you decorate the golf carts with pride for a city that many of us call home, feel free to interpret this theme in different ways. We also want to encourage pride in our institution and being a Billiken. Though decorating your golf cart in relation to this theme is highly encouraged, it is not required. Please keep in mind that this is Homecoming and Family Weekend where our campus is filled with alumni, parents, family members, and children. Should a float be decorated in a way that is not in good taste or keeping with good relations for the City of Saint Louis and Saint Louis University, it WILL be disqualified and not permitted to participate in the parade. YOUR FLOAT REPRESENTS THE UNIVERSITY AND ALL SLU STUDENTS. Any float built by professional float builders will not be eligible for competition. Organizations/Departments/Offices may allow commercial sponsors to place two (2) signs, no larger than 2 x3 on the float. Each entry is limited to three (3) sponsors.

No political campaign materials or advertisements will be allowed on any entry or passed out to parade viewers. All university policies and procedures as outlined by the Student Code of Conduct apply and will be enforced throughout the Homecoming Parade. Any Organization/Department/Office using a golf cart provided by the Student Activities Board is held responsible for any damages to the cart occurring during the parade. Grievances regarding any Homecoming Parade issue must be filed in writing within one (1) University working day of occurrence to Ana Sontag, SAB advisor, in Busch Student Center 319. If the SAB advisor is unable to resolve the complaint, she, in consultations with a committee of two (2) students and two (2) full-time faculty or staff members, will review the complaint, determine its validity, and if warranted take appropriate action to remedy the situation in a timely manner. Decoration & Safety Requirements Floats must not exceed fourteen (14) feet in height, (vehicle plus load), and eight and a half (8 ½) feet in width, to clear all telephone and electrical wires. The float must be able to make ninety (90) degree turns. Each float is limited to one pulling vehicle. All floats must be mechanically propelled so they keep within three (3) car lengths from the preceding float or group throughout the parade. It is the responsibility of sponsoring Organizations/Departments/Offices to ensure that all vehicle drivers must possess the appropriate driver s license and have personal liability insurance. License and proof of insurance must be available the day of the parade. Organizations/Departments/Offices entering floats for the competition may not spend in excess of $500.00. Nothing can obstruct the view of the driver. If using a golf cart, decorations may not weigh over 200 lbs. No flammable materials are allowed. No more people in the golf cart than seats available although groups may walk alongside the golf cart. Golf carts must also stay together to ensure success of parade. It is imperative that no breaks in the parade occur. The Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness will assist in crossing Grand Blvd. No crepe paper is allowed. This paper can stain the golf cart and the organization/department/office would be charged for these damages. All exhaust pipes must extend to the outside of the float. Nothing can be dragging from the back or bottom of the cart. Any further questions please contact Ana Sontag, Program Coordinator in the Student Involvement Center, at (314) 977-1519 or asontag1@slu.edu.
