Introduction Changes to the electrical data for -A (10 to 34 tons, single circuit) and -B (26 to 130 tons, two circuit) are being made to provide electrical requirements that are more conducive to individual applications. The same electrical changes are being made to the condensing unit models ACZ-A (10 to 39 tons) and ACZ-B (30 to 155 tons). Current literature (PM -6, PM ACZ-3, IOMM -5, IOMM ACZ-3) lists electrical requirements for all applications operating in ambient temperatures up to approximately 125 degrees for -B/ACZ-B and 115 degrees for -A/ACZ-A. Obviously, there are many installations where the expected ambient temperatures will be considerably lower, resulting in smaller electrical requirements. In these lower temperature cases, there can be considerable installation cost savings by using smaller and more appropriate electrical requirements. For -A/ACZ-A, minor electrical changes and updates are being made. For -B/ACZ-B, the electrical data is divided into two classifications based on the ambient environment where the unit will operate. Standard units operate in ambient temperatures of 105 degrees Fahrenheit or less. s with the high ambient operation option will be used in 106 degrees Fahrenheit and higher ambient temperatures. The standard -B/ACZ-B unit will have new and smaller electrical requirements where possible. This new electrical data will be listed on the unit s nameplate shipping from the factory. We are not able to provide a new nameplate for units already installed. The -B/ACZ-B units with the high ambient operation option will include not only the addition of a small fan with a filter in the air intake to cool the control panel, but also a different unit nameplate that lists the larger electrical requirements. Except for a few minor corrections, the data provided in the product manuals and IOMM listed above will be the same electrical data that is provided for this option. This supplement amends and adds to the electrical data for the product manuals and Installation Operation Maintenance Manuals (IOMM) listed above. Use this information and option selection for all future needs. The next generation of product manuals and IOMM will have these changes included in the revised brochures. Electrical Notes Notes for Electrical Data Single- and Multi-Point Power: 1. wire size ampacity (MCA) is equal to 125% of the largest compressor-motor RLA plus 100% of RLA of all other loads in the circuit including the control transformer. 2. The control transformer is furnished and no separate 115V power is required. For both single- and multi-point power connections, the control transformer is in circuit #1 with control power wired from there to circuit #2. In multi-point power, disconnecting power to circuit will disconnect all control power to the unit. 3. If a separate 115V power supply is used for the control circuit, then the wire sizing amps is 10 amps for all unit sizes. 4. Recommended power lead wire sizes for 3 conductors per conduit are based on 100% conductor ampacity in accordance with NEC. Voltage drop has not been included. Therefore, power leads should be kept short. All terminal block connections must be made with copper (type THW) wire. 5. Recommended s are selected at approximately 150% to 175% of the largest compressor RLA, plus 100% of all other loads in the circuit. 6. Maximum breaker size is selected at approximately 225% of the largest compressor RLA, plus 100% of all other loads in the circuit. 7. The recommended power lead wire sizes are based on an ambient temperature of 86 F (30 C). Ampacity correction factors must be applied for other ambient temperatures. Refer to the National Electrical Code Handbook. 8. The units must be electrically grounded according to national and local electrical codes. Voltage Limitations: Within ± 10 percent of nameplate rating Notes for Compressor and Condenser Amp Draw : 1. Compressor RLA values are for wiring sizing purposes only but do not reflect normal operating current draw at rated capacity. Notes for Field Wiring Data 1. Requires a single disconnect to supply electrical power to the unit. This power supply must either be fused or use an HACR type circuit breaker. 2. All field wiring to unit power block or optional non-fused disconnect switch must be copper. 3. All field wire size values given in table apply to 75 C rated wire per NEC.
