Introduction: The Super Seca Flash Cure Units are the most versatile flash units on the market. The Super Seca comes in four different sizes and two available power options, it also has an auto rotate option as well as an adjustable temperature control option. Large heating elements and precision engineered designs allow for faster flashing and unmatched reliability. Standard Operations Guide: Once Assembled, the Super Seca is now ready to use. To set the flash to the desired height, with one hand holding the body of the flash to prevent it from falling, loosen the locking collar on the inner tube of the flash. Slide the flash up or down to desired height, now tighten the locking collar to secure it in position. Flash units with the optional temperature control box can be adjusted to the users liking. To adjust the temperature simply turn the temperature control knob up or down, the control box works off of a 0-100% scale of incoming voltage. Example; the number 40 on the scale is 40% of incoming voltage and so on. Models with the optional Auto Rotate option can also adjust the amount of time the printed material is being flashed. To set the dwell time, adjust the dwell timer to the desired time. The timer works on a 0-60 seconds scale. The auto rotate option also allows for manual flashing by simply turning the unit to manual mode when the foot pedal is depressed the flash will rotate over the platen and will not return home until the foot pedal is pressed again. WARNING! RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK! Turn ALL power to unit OFF before service. All service should be done by or under the supervision of a trained technician FAQ. 1. My flash unit isn't turning on. Check to make sure there is power to the unit. If the power source is good its time to test the power switch. To test the power coming into the switch, use a digital Volt/Ohm meter set the dial to the ACV setting (ACV 200-1000 on a non auto-ranging meter) touch one lead to the marked terminal of the switch in image 3 and the other to the opposite terminal on the switch, depending on the model it should read around 120V - 220V. If the power coming in is good, with the unit unplugged, use a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol) with the switch in the ON position, touch one lead to the marked terminal of the switch and the other lead to the opposite terminal (Image 3) the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the switch will need to be replaced. 2. My flash unit turns on but isn't heating up. Start by removing the element assembly from the mount rail (Image 1). Once the element assembly is removed, remove the element cover panel (Image 1) once the panel is removed the flash internals are now visible, Do a visual inspection making sure nothing has come loose. If everything is connected properly its time to test continuity of the element. To test the continuity of the element locate the power switch (Image 2), once located find the two white wires leading from the element probes (Image 3). Image 1 Image 2 Power Switch Part AQ Mount Rail Short Part K Mount Rail Long Part L 29

(2 Continued) Image 3 ACV OUT ACV IN Remove one of the wires from the power switch terminals. Using a Digital Volt/Ohm meter, turn the meter dial to the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol). With one lead on one wire and the other lead on the other wire the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the element will need to be replaced. 3. My flash is giving off an odor when I turn it on. Lint build up or contact with a foreign material or object while still hot may have left residues on the element surface. When the flash unit is heating up these residues may produce a smell. 4. My auto rotation box wont turn on. Check to make sure there is power to the unit. To test the power switch, with the unit unplugged use a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol) and the switch in the ON position, touch one lead to one terminal of the switch and the other lead to the opposite terminal (Image 4) the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the switch will need to be replaced. Image 4 Image 5 30

5. My element wont turn on if plugged in thru the auto rotation box, but will if plugged into the wall socket. The element breaker switch located on the control panel of the auto rotation box is either popped or bad. (Image 5) Testing the element breaker switch is easy, if the breaker is popped depress the white tab, this will reset the breaker. Generally if the breaker switch is bad it will look as if the breaker has popped but when depressed to reset it will immediately pop right back out. If this is not the case, with the tab depressed use a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol) touch one lead to one terminal of the breaker and the other lead to the opposite terminal (Image 5) the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the switch will need to be replaced. 6. When I hit the foot pedal the flash rotates over the platen but immediately returns to the home position. Check the dwell timer, sometimes during a cleaning or movement the dwell timer can get bumped. If the dwell timer is set properly the next step is to check the snap-action switch that triggers the timer countdown. Remove the covers from the auto rotation box, once removed the auto rotation box internals are now exposed. On the right hand side of the box located in the middle of the shelf weldment is the snap-action timer switch (Image 6) Image 6 Once the snap-action switch Is located make sure the metal tab is bent up enough for the drive plate to make contact and trigger the switch. To verify that it is triggering the switch when the drive plate contacts the tab it must produce a click. If the drive plate is triggering the snap-action switch but its still returning home immediately its time to test the continuity of the snap-action switch. To test the continuity of the snap action switch using a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol) touch one lead to the NO (Normally Open) terminal in the middle of the switch and touch the other lead to the COM (Common) terminal depress the metal tab past the clicking sound, the meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the snap-action switch will need to be replaced. Once the switch is tested if found to be good, the timer may be the suspect. Plug the auto rotation box in and turn the power on, check the power going to the timer, remove the terminal cover. Terminal 7 should have white wire leading into it (Image 7). Using a digital Volt/Ohm set the dial to the ACV setting (ACV 200-1000 on a non auto-ranging meter) touch one lead to terminal 7 on the timer and the other lead to the chassis ground (Green wires next to main terminal block) depending on the unit the reading should be around 120V OR 220V. If the timer is getting power but the problem persists the timer will need to be replaced. Image 7 31

7. My auto rotation box is making a grinding noise and the rotation is not smooth. Generally this means the motor assembly is bad. Attached to the motor is a gearbox, overtime these gears can wear out or become gummed up with spray adhesives and lint. Replace the motor assembly being sure to keep the unit clean to prevent damage or premature wear to the new motor. 8. I have a temperature control box, and my flash isn't heating up. Start by removing the bottom panel of the temperature control box. Once removed the control box internals will be exposed (Image 8). To test the power switch, with the unit unplugged use a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the resistance setting (Upside down Omega symbol) and the switch in the ON position, touch one lead to one terminal of the switch and the other lead to the opposite terminal (Image 9) The meter should have a low reading or produce a beep, if the meter reads zero or doesn t produce a beep the switch will need to be replaced. Image 8 Image 9 If the power switch is good move on to testing the voltage regulator. With the heat control unit plugged in and turned on using a digital Volt/Ohm meter in the ACV setting (ACV 200-1000 on a non auto-ranging meter) touch one lead to the 40A terminal and the other lead to chassis ground (Image 10). With the leads in place turn the heat control dial from 0 to 100, the dial works off of a voltage percentage scale, for example the number 40 on the heat control dial scale would be 40% of the input power. If the reading increases with the turning of the dial and reaches the maximum of input voltage the voltage regulator is fine, If it stays at zero the voltage regulator needs to be replaced.
