Rio Arriba County Report, 7 Demographics In 7, there were 3,748 licensed drivers in Rio Arriba County. Of these, there were,68 females and,63 males. The population in Rio Arriba County was 4,87. The total number of crashes in 7 was 733, yielding a crash rate of 8 per thousand people (the total number of crashes 733 divided by the population 4,87 multiplied by,). The corresponding rate for the state was per thousand people. General Crash Information Since 998 the number of crashes has no consistent pattern. Fatal and injury crashes have also shown no consistent pattern since 998. Belt usage (as a percentage) has increased from last year, while belt usage in crashes involving visible and incapacitating injuries has slightly increased. Alcohol-related Crash Information Information about alcohol-involved crashes is included in all sections of this report. Of the 33 people convicted of DWI in Rio Arriba County in 7, 8 percent were first-time DWI convictions (number of first convictions 8 divided by the total number of people convicted 33 multiplied by ). The corresponding percentage for the state was 68. Crash Specifics Crashes involving other vehicles were the most common class, accounting for 48 percent of all crashes. Crashes involving overturns and other vehicles were the top crash classes which resulted in fatalities. Passenger cars were the vehicle type most often involved in crashes, accounting for 46 percent of all vehicles in crashes. Pickups accounted for percent of vehicles involved in crashes. Together these two vehicle types comprised 68 percent of the vehicles involved in injury crashes. The three most common top contributing factors were other, excessive speed and driver inattention. There were 3 fatal crashes in 7. The most common top contributing factor for the fatal crashes was alcohol involvement. People in Crashes Overall, males were 63 percent of drivers in crashes, although they account for only 49 percent of licensed drivers in Rio Arriba County. There were four pedestrians involved in crashes. In 7, five teenagers and three young adults were killed in crashes in Rio Arriba County. Statewide 7 percent of alcohol-involved drivers were under ; in Rio Arriba County 9 percent were under. Note: The 999 crash file contains % fewer crashes than the 998 file.
