26 Where do you get your tickets? At customer centres and transport company sales points, at private distribution points, from ticket machines, online, or via your mobile. You can pick up single tickets, day tickets and ZusatzTickets (additional ticket) from the driver. Please don t forget to validate your ticket before departure. You will find ticket validation machines on all buses and trams, on train platforms or station stairwells. Please note: I f you buy your ticket from the driver or from a machine, it may already have been validated. Travelling outside of the region You can validate previously purchased EinzelTickets, (Single tickets) 4er Tickets (4 trip ticket), day or group tickets from any price level for neighbouring regions in advance when you start your journey in your home network. Tip: For a journey to Cologne, a Ticket2000 cus- tomer in the A3 price level for tariff area 36 (Bochum) can travel as far as Langenfeld. From there, purchase a single ticket for the RheinSieg transport association (VRS) in price level 3. This ticket can already be validated in Bochum. Prerequisites for subscription You can see terms and conditions of the VRR and our transport conditions in the customer centre or online at www.vrr.de

27 A Subscription That Pays Off The company rewards subscription customers for their loyalty to buses and trains with the AboLust vouchers. Twice a year, subscription customers receive the AboLust by post, which offers extras and discounts for various leisure activities. Just as there is a variety of different subscription tickets, the AboLust and its various offers is available for different age groups. Bicycle Transport Generally applicable rules: transport companies are happy to transport your bicycle but this idepends on the time of day, volume of traffic and available space, in the interest of all passengers. Please find out about your transport company s luggage regulations in advance. The eticket Subscription tickets are given out as etickets on smartcards in VRR. The ticket features are encrypted on the chip and can only be read by corresponding control equipment and their validity is automatically checked. These devices are integrated into the boarding control systems on buses and are also used by ticket inspectors. Authorised smartcards have the e-symbol on them. VDV Barcode Further, the control equipment checks the tickets via the VDV (German transport network) barcode. This is, for example, required on all self-printed online tickets. The same journey information is stored in this barcode as is stored in the smartcard chip. In this way, these tickets can be checked automatically upon boarding or by the ticket inspectors. When using an online ticket, it is necessary to identify yourself with a control measure such as an ID.
