CNG Marine Application Abras A Dubai Heritage Abras are used on the Dubai Creek Embayment to ferry up to 20 people 26 million passengers being transported every year at a charge of dh1 per trip. There is a total of 149 Abras on Dubai Creek, all operated independently, but will soon be franchised by the RTA. CNG Concepts / Salzburg AG Utilities UAE FZE Themel, February 2008 4

CNG Marine Application Environmental Threat of Diesel ABRA Risks to passenger and the environment are high because of the proximity of: passengers to the diesel engines (refer to photograph), giving high exposure to fuel and noise; and the poorly flushed, Ramsar-listed, Ras Al Khor wetlands, giving high exposure fuel and oil contaminants that will effect and accumulate in animals and plants. Another important environmental factor to consider is greenhouse emissions given the current moves to reduce these emissions globally CNG Concepts / Salzburg AG Utilities UAE FZE Themel, February 2008 5

CNG - Compressed Natural Gas The Benefits Human health Lowering concentrations of these contaminants in the air by using the CNG engines would raise air quality making this a healthier environment for passengers and drivers alike. Decrease of particulates, acids from NOx and SOx emissions, CO and hydrocarbons will improve respiratory health. Tremendous decrease of fine dust Marine environment Lowering the amounts of these contaminants in the air, particularly partially burnt diesel and engine oil, including toxic polyaromatic hydrocarbons and particulates would: Decrease the inputs of the persistent contaminants to the marine environment via spillage, exhaust gases or atmospheric deposition. Marine water quality will be improved, decreasing the accumulation of contaminants in animals and plants; and Enable a greater human appreciation of the marine environment in Dubai helping to generate further protection. Greenhouse Similar greenhouse impacts are likely for both the existing diesel engines and the new CNG engines being trialed. CNG Concepts / Salzburg AG Utilities UAE FZE Themel, February 2008 12

Next Step: Evolution 2 Engine Volkswagen OEM- Engine with 90 HP / 2,0 displacement Will be equipped from manufacturer with a gearbox the complete block can be adjusted to the alignment of a standard ABRA Infinite/BRC Sequential injection gas-system will be implemented on test bench in factory, most modern marine engine currently on the market Idle, cold start and standard operation process will be managed electronic controlled Pollution results and fuel efficiency still better due to most modern injection system All of the marinizing components are OEM Additional tasks Protection of electronic components (ECU, Sensors ) due to the harsh environment. Changing of propeller size/or pitch might still be necessary on some boats in order to optimize the transmission CNG Concepts / Salzburg AG Utilities UAE FZE Themel, February 2008 13
