This examination paper consist of two versions, The English version and Malay version. The English version from page TWO (2) to page FIVE (5) and Malay version from page SIX (6) to page TEN (10). A three-phase, Y-connected, 460V (line-line), 60Hz, four-pole induction motor has the following parameters : R 1 =0.07Ω R 2 =0.152Ω X 1 =0.743Ω X 2 =0.764 Ω X M =40.1 Ω R c =500Ω The induction motor is operating at full-load with the slip of 3%. The total friction and windage losses can be assumed to be constant at 715W. (a) Calculate the motor input phase current I 1 (b) Calculate the power factor, the input real power P in and the input reactive power Q in (c) Calculate the rotor current I 2 (d) Calculate the mechanical power P mech and the rotor loss P rotor (e) Calculate the shaft power P shaft and shaft torque T shaft 2. A permanent magnet dc motor has an armature resistance R a of 1.05Ω. When operated at no-load from a dc source of 48V, it is observed that the motor rotates at a speed of 2000rpm and draws current of 1.15A (a) Calculate the torque constant K m

...3/- -3 - [EEK468] (b) Calculate the mechanical power and torque developed by the motor when it is operating at 1500rpm (c) Calculate the stall (zero speed) current and stall torque. (d) The motor is used to power a small water pump which requires a torque of 5Nm at a speed of 1700rpm and which varies as the square of speed. Calculate the operating speed when the pump is driven by the dc motor at terminal supply voltage of 48V. (e) For part (d) operation, calculate the armature current I a and motor efficiency. 3. (a) In electrical drive system, the power converter is used to provide adjustable voltage, current and/or frequency in order to control the speed, torque or power of the motor. Give four types of these converters. (25 marks) (b) The four quadrants of the speed-torque characteristics of electrical motor explain the possible operating conditions that typical electrical drive systems have to perform as shown in Figure Q3B. In which quadrants the electrical drive will operate for :- (iii) A vehicle that is going up and down the hill An elevator that is going up and down A conveyor belt that moves either from left to right or from right to left directions. ...4/- -4 - [EEK468] Speed Torque Figure Q3B (c) A three-phase, full-wave controlled rectifier supplies the armature of a 15-hp, 315-V separately excited dc motor. The field circuit gets its supply from a three-phase, full wave uncontrolled rectifier connected to the same supply. The data for this drive are: Compute the torque developed by the motor. (25 marks) (d) A three-phase, 400-V, 50-Hz, four pole, star connected induction motor is supplied by a three-phase ac voltage controller with an input supply of 440 line-to-line. The induction motor has following parameters:. All quantities being referred to the stator. The rotor speed is 1475 rpm. If the no-load losses are negligible, estimate the firing angles of the thyrsitors of the controller and slip. (25 marks)

...5/- -5 - [EEK468] 4. (a) A dc, separately excited motor is connected to a fan-type load. The armature circuit of the motor is connected to a full-wave single-phase ac/dc SCR converter. The input voltage to the converter is 200 V (rms). The triggering anlge of the converter is adjusted for a motor speed of 500 rpm. The armature current in this case is 16 A. The armature resistance of the motor is 0.5 Ω, and the field constant (kφ) is 2.5 V sec. Assume that armature current is alaways continuous. Estimate the triggering angle to run the motor at 500 rpm, and to reduce the motor speed to 100 rpm. (40 marks) (b) A 50-hp separately excited dc motor is supplied by a battery of 480 V through a chopper and it has a mean armature current of 120 A. The field is also supplied by a chopper whose source is a battery of 250 V. The other data for this drive are current continuous. Compute The armature circuit has sufficient inductance to make (iii) the speed of the motor, the torque developed by the motor, the equivalent input resistance, and (10 marks) (10 marks)...5/-

-5 - [EEK468] 5. (a) A 30-kW, 440-V, 50-Hz, 4-pole, three-phase star connected induction motor has follwing parameters; All the quantities are refered to stator side. The motor is operated with constant volt/hz control corresponding to the rated voltage and frequency. If the motor has to supply a load torque of 120 N m, compute the following quantities with rated frequency and with a frequency of 40 Hz: (iii) Slip for the given load torque, Slip for the maximum torque, Breakdwon torque, (25 marks) (15 marks) (b) A three phase, 50-kW, 1470-rpm, 400-V, 50-Hz, 4-pole, star connected induction motor has follwing parameters; All the quantities are refered to stator side. The motor is operated with frequency control. The slip for maximum torque at the given supply frequency is 0.12. Kirakan kelajuan operasi apabila pam ini dipacu oleh motor AT pada voltan bekalan 48V (e) Untuk bahagian (d) operasi, kirakan arus angker I a dan kecekapan motor 3. (a) Dalam sistem pacuan elektrik, penukar kuasa yang digunakan untuk menyediakan voltan, arus dan/atau frekuensi yang boleh laras untuk mengawal kelajuan, tork atau kuasa motor. Berikan empat jenis penukar ini. [markah 25%] (b) Empat kuadran ciri-ciri kelajuan-tork motor elektrik menerangkan keadaan-keadaan operasi yang boleh berlaku pada sistem pacuan elektrik semasa beroperasi seperti ditunjukkan dalam Rajah Q3B. -8 - [EEK468] Speed Torque Rajah Q3B (c) Sebuah penerus gelombang penuh dikawal tiga-fasa membekalkan angker sebuah motor Aedan terpisah 15hp, 315V dc. Litar medan mendapat bekalannya dari penerus terkawal gelombang penuh tiga-fasa yang disambungkan kepada bekalan yang sama. Data untuk pemacu ini ialah: Kirakan tork dihasilkan oleh motor. [markah 25 %] (d) Sebuah motor aruhan, tiga-fasa, 400-V, 50-Hz, empat-kutub, sambungan-bintang dibekalkan oleh tiga-fasa pengawal voltan ac dengan bekalan input 440V talian-ketalian. Motor aruhan mempunyai parameter-paramter berikut:. Semua kuantiti dirujukkan kepada pemegun. Kelajuan pemutar adalah 1475rpm. -9 - [EEK468] 4. (a) Sebuah motor Aedan terpisah disambungkan ke beban jenis-kipas. Litar angker motor disambungkan ke penukar SCR gelombang penuh ac/dc satu-fasa. Voltan input ke penukar adalah 200 V (rms). Sudut menembak penukar boleh diselaraskan kelajuan motor 500rpm. Arus angker untuk kes ini adalah 16A. Perintang angker ialah 0.5Ω, dan pemalar medan (kφ) ialah 2.5 Vsec. Andaikan arus angker sentiasa berterusan. Anggarkan sudut menembak : Untuk mengerakkan motor pada 500 rpm [markah 20 %] Untuk menurunkan kelajuan motor ke 100rpm. [markah 40 %] (d) Motor Aedan terpisah 50-hp dibekalkan oleh bateri 480 V melalui penukar chopper dan ia mempunyai arus angker purata sebanyak 120 A. Medan juga dibekalkan oleh penukar chopper yang mempunyai bekalan sumber bateri sebanyak 250A. Data lain untuk pemacu ialah : Litar angker mempunyai kearuhan yang mencukupi untuk membuat arus berterusan. -10 - [EEK468] 5 (a) Sebuah motor aruhan, tiga-fasa, 30-kW, 440-V, 50-Hz, 4-kutub, sambungan bintang mempunyai parameter-parameter berikut: Semua kuantiti dirujuk kepada sebelah pemegun. Motor dikendalikan dengan pemalar kawalan volt/hz bersepadanan dengan kadar voltan dan frekuensi. Jika motor perlu membekalkan tork beban sebanyak 120Nm, kirakan kuantiti-kuantiti berikut pada kadar frekuensi dan pada frekuensi 40Hz : Slip untuk beban yang diberikan Slip untuk beban maksima (iii) Tork Breakdown [markah 25 %] [markah 15 %] [markah 20 %] (b) Sebuah motor aruhan tiga-fasa, 50-kW, 1470-rpm, 400-V, 50-Hz, 4-kutub, sambungan-bintang mempunyai parameter-parameter berikut : Semua kuantiti dirujuk kepada sebelah pemegun. Motor dikendalikan dengan kawalan frekuensi. Slip untuk tork maksima pada pemberian frekuensi bekalan ialah is 0.12.
