Interactive Workshop Day Wednesday, 16 th June 2010 Workshop A 09:00 12:00 Benefit / Cost of particle filter retrofit Based on epdemiological findings the health benefits for the society when reducing combustion generated solid particles from breathing air in highly populated urban areas can be defined in monetary terms. Using scientific information the same is possible for the reduction of global warming impact when using particle filters. These benefits, expressed in /kg soot or even for the whole life of a DPF-equipped vehicle can be compared to the overall cost. This ratio Benefit / Cost should be the basis to decide whether the society shall spend money for the introduction of a measure or not. Monetary Benefit for the society due to particle elimination Monetary Benefit due to BC global warming impact reduction Overall cost of filter retrofit B/C for wall flow filters B/C for open systems B/C for SCR and combos Policy decision criteria Dipl.Ing. Dr.med.h.c. Andreas C. R. Mayer, Technik Thermische Maschinen, Switzerland Workshop B 09:00 12:00 Software architectures for air path control and necessary sensors New emission legislation requires faster, more precise and robust emission control. Which kind of software architecture is able to achieve highest precision and what sensors will be needed? What will be the impact on calibration effort? One promising concept is a NOx-based EGR control which will be described as a base for a further discussion. Model based high pressure EGR Engine filling model EGR in highly transient test cycles Sensor concepts Dipl. Ing. Thorsten Schnorbus, Technical specialist Diesel combustion systems, FEV Motorentechnik GmbH, Germany Workshop C 13:00 16:00 SCR-Systems with high efficiency Concepts, materials, control strategies This workshop will provide a profound insight in SCR-Systems. We will discuss and assess different concepts and different coating materials. Also this workshop is meant to answer open questions regarding control strategies. Boundary conditions for SCR-Systems in off-road applications Properties of different SCR-materials (coatings) Concepts for SCR-Systems with efficiencies over 90% in relevant duty cycles Dr.-Ing. Peter Broll, Head of Series Development Exhaust, Deutz AG, Germany Workshop D 13:00 16:00 Challenges of the upcoming Off Highway Vehicles Emission Legislations World wide the upcoming Off Highway emission legislations will be more stringent in the near future. In many cases vehicle and engine manufacturers will be faced with catalytic exhaust aftertreatment systems for the first time. The workshop focuses on typical catalyst lay outs and the set of boundary conditions to be handled in Off Highway vehicles. Catalyst systems for Stage IIIB/ IV and US EPA/CARB Interaction needs between engine management and exhaust system "Real life" boundary conditions for exhaust systems François Jaussi, Chief Department Manager, Product Management Diesel Engines & Hydraulic Systems, Liebherr Machines Bulle, Switzerland Dr. Stefan Kamm, Product Manager Automotive BEE-A1, Süd-Chemie AG, Germany
