Agip info corner What do modern agricultural machines demand on modern lubricants? What do we understand by multifunctional fluids? Lubricants with special friction features are required for synchronised manual transmissions, for automatic transmissions, locking differentials and wet brakes (as in agricultural tractors). These so called multifunctional fluids for agricultural and construction machines can be divided into 2 groups: UTTO Universal Tractor Transmission Oil STOU Super Tractor Oil Universal UTTO STOU Motor oil Gear oil (GL-4) Hydraulic systems Wet brakes What shall be kept in mind regarding wet brakes? Wet brakes lubricants must provide a good balance between dynamic and static friction. Viscosity must ensure safe braking capacity while preventing brakes from chattering and juddering. This friction factor is achieved by means of special additives and tuned according to the material multidiscs are made of. If no suited oil is used, a noise is provoked, the so called brake chatter. Therefore tests are required to guarantee the brake performance. Due to the great oil flow in the grooves a bigger oil amount is drawn off than the oil amount which can be supplied to lubricate. This is leading to a mixture of oil and air flowing through the brake covering grooves. When braking, dry friction occurs in some points which can sometimes lead to noises, brake covering glazing or greater brake covering wear.
