Installation Manual TWM Performance Chevrolet Camaro 5 th Gen Full Replacement Short Shifter Begin the installation by parking on a flat surface, place wooden blocks in front or behind the wheels to prevent the car from moving while you re working. Make sure to let the car cool down before you do the install as you will be working around the shifter assembly, the transmission and the exhaust system. The car will need to be jacked up, only use jack stands Please read this installation manual completely before installing the product. This manual is available for download in color at www.twmperformance.com. Estimated Installation Time: 90-150 minutes Tools required: Ratchet Socket set Allen bit set Ratchet extensions Universal joint Philips head screwdriver Flat head screwdriver Flash light or shop light Shop jack Jack stands
1. Start by prying the back of the console trim with a flathead screwdriver or a trim tool upwards to unclip it, then run your fingers to the front to unclip the whole trim. You can leave the gauges connected and simply move the whole trim over to the passenger side 2. Unscrew the (4) screws holding the shift boot trim in the console using a Philips screwdriver 3. Remove the shift knob by pulling upwards with some force Set the knob and shift boot aside 4. Loosen, but not remove, the (4) screws holding the shifter assembly to the body using a 10mm socket
5. Underneath the car, remove the black plate towards the back of the car by taking off (4) screws with a 15mm socket Then slide the exhaust shield towards the back of the car, to do this you may need to remove some body nuts with a 10mm socket 6. Next, the transmission support needs to be taken off, with the same 15mm socket, remove the (4) screws holding the support to the body Remove the screw little by little in a star-like pattern to slowly lower the transmission without putting too much strain on individual screw 7. Completely remove the transmission support by removing the (2) nuts underneath with the same 15mm socket Careful not to drop the support 8. Underneath the car, over the drive shaft, locate the shifter assembly and remove the lower dust boot by pulling out and down on the tabs at each corner
9. Push the dust boot out of the way to reveal the lower section of the shift rod. With a flathead screwdriver, push out one of the clips on each side of the linkage 10. With your fingers, simply slide the linkage pin out, do not misplace the pin and the clips 11. Remove the (2) screws from under the assembly with a 10mm socket, remove the ring and pull the shifter down and out 12. Locate the forward arm of the shifter carrier on the transmission and using a flat head screwdriver pry the pin s clip off the arm of the carrier, swivel the clip completely off the arm
13. With the same screwdriver, pry the pin out completely, do to this you will need some help to pull down very hard on the transmission/driveshaft to lower the transmission enough that the pin will clear the body of the car to come out completely This needs to be done on both sides on the transmission on the passenger side of the car, there is even less room 14. Now remove the (2) nuts at the back of the shifter assembly holding the bushing onto the body using a 10mm socket with extensions 15. You can now wiggle the carrier around the exhaust and the drive shaft to take it off the car 16. Take your brand new TWM Performance Caramo 5 th Gen Full Replacement carrier and lubricate all the poly bushings (on the legs and on the pin holder) with the provided tube of grease, then insert it into place and reverse steps 14 to 12.
17. Before inserting the shifter shaft into the carrier, slide the spacer ring into the carrier all the way up to the top plate 18. Then insert the shifter shaft, having a friend in the car to guide the shaft thru the upper dust boot is very helpful 19. Put the retaining plate into position and screw it in with the provided M8 screws and lock washers with a 5mm Allen bit and extensions Reverse steps 10 to 4 20. From inside the car, pinch the upper dust boot with your fingers and stretch it till the rounded diamond shape fits over the TWM carrier s top plate If you have purchased a TWM Performance shift knob, now is the perfect time to install it, follow the instructions provided in the knob installation manual Reverse steps 3 to 1
