2.4.1 Warnings N/A 2.4.2 Cautions CAUTION: Do not bundle any lines from this unit with transmitter coax lines. Do not bundle any logic or DC power lines from this unit with 400 Hz synchro wiring or AC power lines. Do not position this unit next to any device with a strong alternating magnetic field such as an inverter, motor or blower. CAUTION: Do not install the LD12-002 without making a suitable amendment to the flight manual indicating how the NAV annunciation and dimming/ test functions have been implemented in the aircraft. CAUTION: Ensure that no press-to test lamp holders with incandescent lamps have been used in the aircraft. These can cause the line(s) to be shorted to ground, which may damage the internal circuitry of the LD12-002. 2.4.3 Cabling and Wiring Note: In order to minimize wiring, the unit should be located close to the annunciators it will be dimming. It should not be mounted near hot air paths, as substantial heat dissipation is required. All wire shall be selected in accordance with the original aircraft manufacturer's Maintenance Instructions or AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-76 through 11-78. Unshielded wire types shall qualify to MIL-W-22759 as specified in AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-85, 11-86, and listed in Table 11-11. For shielded wire applications, use Tefzel MIL-C-27500 shielded wire with solder sleeves (for shield terminations) to make the most compact and easily terminated interconnect. Follow the interconnect drawing in Section 2.7 as required. Allow 3" from the end of the shielded wiring to the shield termination to allow the connector hood to be easily installed. Refer to the interconnect drawing in Section 2.7 for shield termination details. Note that the hood is a 'clamshell' hood, and is installed after the wiring is complete. Maintain wire segregation and route wiring in accordance with the original aircraft manufacturers Maintenance Instructions. Unless otherwise noted, all wiring shall be a minimum of 22 AWG, except power and ground lines, which shall be a minimum of 20 AWG. Reference the Interconnect drawing for additional specifications. Check that the ground connection is clean and well secured, and that it shares no path with any electrically noisy aircraft accessories such as blowers, turn and bank instruments or similar loads. Power to this unit must be supplied from a separate circuit breaker or fuse (fast blow), and not attached to any other circuit breaker without additional protection. Verify that the selected circuit breaker size and wire gauge are adequate for the installation using the techniques specified in AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-47 through 11-51 and 11-66 through 11-69. 2.4.4 Lighting Mode Switch The normal installation of the LD12-002 assumes the installation of a remote momentary SPDT centre-off toggle switch, used to select from the following modes: MODE SWITCH POSITION FUNCTION DIM Selects night flying LED levels. See section 2.5 NORM Selects day flying LED levels (full brightness). TEST Tests functionality of all LEDs. All LEDs ON (full brightness). The centre-off position of the switch should correspond to the NORM position. The mode switch should be spring loaded in the TEST position so that it will return to the NORM position when released. Alternatively, the DIM function can be selected by a separate switch, or tied into another switch function, and the LED test can be activated by a momentary pushbutton switch. The DIM position can also have a level control connected in series with the switch, to permit local adjustment of the night flying LED level. The switch may also be integral with the level control to conserve panel space. 2.4.5 Optional Dimmer Adjustment Inserting a 10 kω, 1/2 W linear taper potentiometer between the dimmer input and ground will allow external adjustment of the dimming voltage. If using an external adjustment, ensure that the internal trimpot is set for minimum voltage output (rotated fully ccw). 2.4.6 Optional Emergency Bypass Switch An optional external single-pole single-throw toggle switch can be installed to route an external voltage to the LEDs if the dimmer should fail. 2.4.7 Post-Installation Checks Before the unit is mounted, make all functional tests and trimpot adjustments. Be sure the harness has enough clearance to permit the unit to be pulled out for re-adjustment, if needed later. 2.4.7.1 Voltage/Resistance Checks Do not attach the LD12-002 until the following conditions are met. Check the following: a) Check P1 pin <1> for +28 Vdc relative to ground. b) Check P1 pin <34> for continuity to ground (less than 0.5Ω). c) Check J1 pin<2> for 28 Vdc LED power from lighting bus. d) Ensure that no short circuits exist on any line (Lamp HI to lamp LO or to ground). Section 2 Rev: 1.00 Issue 1 Page 2-3 ENG-FORM: 805-0121.DOT

2.4.7.2 Power On Checks Power up the aircraft s systems and confirm normal operation of all functions of the LD12-002. a) Select the TEST position on the mode switch and check that all LEDs are functioning. b) Select the NORM position on the mode switch; LEDs that are activated should be fully illuminated. c) Select the DIM position on the mode switch and adjust the dimmer pot; the active LEDs should track the dimmer pot. d) Make sure unit is securely fastened and that the connector locks are correctly mated before any flight is attempted. Upon satisfactory completion of all performance checks, make all required log book entries, electrical load, weight and balance amendments and other documentation as required by your local regulatory agency before releasing the aircraft for service. 2.5 Adjustments and Connections Access for internal dimmer adjustment The dimming voltage (and therefore the dimming level) of the LD12-002 may be adjusted by rotating an internal trimpot, which can be accessed through an opening in the cover. To select minimum voltage output, the trimpot is rotated fully counterclockwise (ccw), and for maximum voltage output the trimpot is rotated fully clockwise (cw). See section 2.4.4 for lighting mode switch information. 2.6 Accessories Required But Not Supplied Installation kit p/n D50SV-IKC (crimp) is required to complete the installation.
