T-REX INCREMENTAL EXTENSOMETER SISGEO designed the T-REX incremental extensometer to measure the position of magnetic rings set along the axis of inclinometer casing. Measurements are later used to calculate changes in position, which indicate displacement. T-REX probe incorporates two accurate linear transducers and is supplied with operating cable, placement rods and portable readout. The Archimede readout is supplied with a special battery pack to increase working time. A USB cable is used to transfer measurements from the Archimedes readout to a PC. Klion Software running on the PC uses T-Rex measurements to compute displacements at 1 meter intervals. APPLICATIONS Extrusion (detensioning) on tunnel face Vertical displacements in embankment dam Settlements along path of tunneling machine Displacements related to consolidation activity FEATURES Large measurement range for operation in both rock and soil High accuracy and repeatability Fully compatible with inclinometer components: tubing, cable, readout Simple, on-site plots Meet the essential requirements of the EMC Directive 2014/30/UE T-REX INCREMENTAL EXTENSOMETER 2
OPERATING PRINCIPLE The T-REX system requires model Sisgeo S141 inclinometer casing installed with external magnet rings fixed at 1 meter intervals along the length of the casing. The T-REX probe has an aluminum body. Two sensors inside the body are able to detect the magnetic field generated by the magnetic rings fixed to the casing. The sensors inside the probe are mounted exactly 1000 mm apart. When connected to the Archimede readout with the control cable and lowered into the casing, the system is able to detect the relative distance between two rings with great accuracy. T-REX surveys usually start from the bottom of the casing, if the botttom is in stable ground. First, the operator readings the relative distance between the two lower rings (ring 1 and ring 2). Then, the operator pulls the probe 1000 mm upwards to read the relative distance between ring 2 and ring 3, then ring 3 and 4, and so on, until all rings have been read. The first complete survey of the ring positions serves as the reference (baseline) survey. Subsequent surveys are compared to the first. Changes in the distance between rings indicates settlement or heave. It is possible to use the top ring as the reference, if the top of the casing is surveyed optically each time measurements are made. control cable ring 5 ring 5 STEP 1 STEP 2 waterproof connector ring 4 ring 4 upper sensor ring 3 ring 3 ring 2 ring 2 reading #1 reading #2 1000 mm ring 1 ring 1 lower sensor T-REX INCREMENTAL EXTENSOMETER 3

ARCHIMEDE READOUT ARCHIMEDE is a rugged, water-resistant portable readout designed to read the T-Rex extensometer and inclinometer probes. The readout has a large, daylight-readable graphic display capable of showing plots as well as data. A convenient handswitch allows one-man operation. For reliable daily operation, the readout connects to the probe or T-REX by cable. An external 12V battery pack is recommended when the Archimede is used with the T-REX probe, which has high power consumption. The external battery pack provides a working time of up to 8 hours. High-resolution plots can be easily generated and displayed when the survey is finished. The SMART Manager Suite permits to manage ARCHIMEDE directly by your PC, offering also an on-line technical assistance. T-REX INCREMENTAL EXTENSOMETER 5

TUNNEL FACE EXTRUSION T-REX incremental extensometer is often used in tunneling to monitor the tunnel face detensioning and ground displacement vs distance from the face. The system consists of a measuring tube with pre-attached magnet target rings installed in a horizontal borehole drilled from the tunnel face. Usual tube lengths are 15 m to 30 m. The probe is inserted in the tube and pushed to reach the farthest magnetic ring. The first survey will give the zero position of all the magnetic targets. Subsequent surveys are performed after each tunnel excavation step (the exposed portion of the tube is destroyed at each step). These surveys are compared to the reference survey to calculate displacement of the face.
