TWIN SHAFT M I X E R S TWIN SHAFT: THE MIXER Mixing is the most critical phase of all concrete production. By ensuring the most homogenous mix in the minimum mixing time, Simem Twin-Shaft Mixers provide economy, durability, and consistency unparalleled by any other mixer configuration. Simem and the worldwide concrete production community have long recognized the Twin-Shaft system as being the most effective and versatile of all available mixer configurations. The Simem Twin-Shaft series of mixers offers high efficiency and reliability with minimum maintenance due to a refined design developed within our company since the first prototype in 1972 With over 20 years experience, Simem has developed worldwide references from a wide cross section of construction, mining and environmental industries. Ready-Mix Producers, Precast, and Products Producers, Pipe, Block and Backfill Producers have all found Simem Twin-Shaft Mixers adaptable to specific requirements where consistency, speed, and efficiency are concerned. The mixing tank in the Simem twin shaft mixers is completely protected with special anti-wear liners. The mixing action is performed by cast iron paddles, shaped for optimising the flow and for minimising the material wear. Paddles and supporting arms are bolted to the main shafts for easy maintenance and servicing.

Simem twin shaft mixers are available in a wide range of models, from 1 up to 6 cubic meters compacted output capacity. A LAB version has been also designed for preparing laboratory tests. All Simem mixers are manufactured at our factories in Italy according to UNI-ISO 9001 quality assurance regulations. At Simem we call it TQM Total Quality Mixing!

TWIN SHAFT M I X E R S TQM TOTAL QUALITY MIXING Able to handle 0 to high slump mix designs and, with optional configurations up to 180 mm aggregate, the twin synchronized shafts of the Simem Twin-Shaft Mixers forces a shear in the mix which: Allows for every particle of sand and aggregate to be coated with cement; Gives the most homogeneous mix possible in as little as 20 seconds for wet batch and 60 seconds for pipe and block; And in many cases, allows for a reduction of cement up to 15% without sacrificing strength! Owners benefit from being able to provide a better quality product, in a shorter period of time, while saving on cement costs. This adds up to increased production and profits.

Driven by electric motors, the twin stage planetary gear boxes, rated at 94% efficiency, are connected to the main shafts with articulated joints, which virtually eliminates the transmission of any possible force from the mixing shafts to the reducer output shafts. The twin-shaft rotate towards each other while the paddles force the mix in a circular motion.this forces a shear in the mix that is unparalleled by any other type of mixer configuration. Standard steel hood with four service openings for normal maintenance and inspection during mixing cycle. Rubber seals are installed on the covers for dust emission control. Water manifold in hood comes complete with a closing ring for dispersion of water across the mixing body, assisting in dust suppression.

TWIN SHAFT M I X E R S SIMEM FEATURING THE TWIN SHAFT MIXERS Automatic self-lubricating system Concrete seals are installed on the mixing shafts with special metallic and rubber packings, and connected to the main automatic greasing unit. All four shaft seals are continuously greased by the self-lubricating system, which comes standard on all models. The self-lubricating system provides a positive flow of grease to the back side of the seals ensuring grout does not pass into the seals. High pressure greasing pump is directly driven through the mixing shaft with a mechanical transmission. The grease pump on the self-lubricating system is mechanically driven by the mixing shafts. The grease tank has a capacity of 4 Kg., and a limit-switch level indicator is also provided. The diagram of the shaft seals: a labyrinth is composed through several gaskets and seals, integrated with the grease injection nozzles. The greasing system provides the internal seals with a continuous protection against concrete leakage. The inspection gates are equipped with safety limit switches to avoid danger during operations.

Aggregates loading Skip The smaller range of MSO twin shaft mixers (models from 1250 to 3000) is also available with an aggregates loading skip. The new Simem skip has been designed with a foldable discharge gate which allows very fast flow of the materials into the mixing tank, through a dust suppressing inlet panel. The skip is driven through an independent electric motor and an epicycloidal gearbox, integrated on top 65 Hydraulic Power Unit for Discharge Gate The discharge gate is driven by a single hydraulic cylinder connected to a hydraulic power unit, with an oil tank of 20 lt. capacity. The unit comes complete with a hand pump for emergency discharging in case of power failure. Variable arms positioning The special design of the mixing arms allows their installation in different configurations depending on the size of the aggregates. This feature ensures optimum performance by allowing mixer arms to The hydraulic power unit is provided with aluminium tank, complete with level and temperature display. The electric motor and the hydraulic pump provide the driving system for the discharge gate. be installed at 45 deg. for fine grains, 90 deg. for standard concrete or 180 deg. where large sized aggregates are specified. The picture above is showing the so called Dam Version arms layout, with positioning at 180. The discharge gate is equipped with 2 or 3 (option) inductive limit-switches, adjustable within a rail, for proportioning the outlet flow rate. The gate is protected with interchangeable special steel wear liners.

TWIN SHAFT M I X E R S THE INTELLIGENT MIXER: AUTO-DIAGNOSTIC AND AUTOMATIC WASHING Mixer Mind Electronic Check-control system Especially designed for auto-diagnostic operation and service planning, the Mixer Mind monitors motors, gearboxes, and the automatic lubrication system for temperature, pressure, and service. It also indicates the amp draw. SIMEM extend the warranty on the mechanical components of the mixer, including shaft seals, to 2 years, when the Mixer Mind is installed. Automatic High Pressure Washdown System To reduce operating costs and time, SIMEM offers a high pressure washdown system. This system consists of two special rotating tubes running the full length of each side of the mixer. Water is fed via a triplex high pressure pump delivering 200 lt. of water per minute. The automatic washing system can be started at the end of every shift for complete washout of the mixer. Alternatively, where concrete production is intermittant, a rinse can be provided between production periods. A high pressure wand (50 bar) is provided for final cleanout through the inspection doors.

Other options include: Shaft-cleaning rings, electronic softstarter, special materials for liners and paddles, thermo-switch, loading skip, variable speed control, and flow-through end discharge arrangement. TWIN SHAFT M I X E R S FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT PROJECTS IN THE WORLD 1994 SYDNEY 2000 Olympics project in Australia Three concrete mixing towers, manufactured in co-operation with local steel fabricators, under commitment of the company CSR Co. - Ready Mix division in Paramatta, designed for the construction of the new 2000 Olympics quarters in Australia; each plant has been designed equipped with two units MSO 4500 twin shaft mixers, suitable to achieve a 200 cb.mt. hourly production capacity. 1996 Chesapeake Bay Bridge precasted piles factory - Norfolk - VA - USA The project for the longest concrete bridge in the United States has been started by a joint-venture association with PCL/Hardaway/Interbeton Companies in Norfolk, installing a piles precasting factory for manufacturing high strength concrete piles. Simem N. America supplied the concrete mixing plant equipped with an MSO 2500 twin shaft mixer through which the production of piles has to be completed: MSO twin shaft mixer has been selected for granting the high strength requirements as designed for the concrete piles. 1993 New airport project in Hong Kong Two concrete mixing plants manufactured in cooperation with the company Planters & Co., for the client QUI HONG Concrete Co. in Hong Kong, installed within the construction site of the project for the new airport of Hong Kong, suitable for the production of zero slump concrete with aggregates having 100 mm. diameter; each plant has been equipped with one unit MSO 3000 twin shaft mixer for an hourly production up to 100 cb.mt. compacted concrete. 1991 Superport in BILBAO Spain Concrete mixing plant, manufactured in co-operation with Spanish company Talleres Alquezar SA in Zaragoza, equipped with two mixers model MSO 6000, installed within the site of the new Superport in Bilbao for the client Agroman. The project has been requiring the production of 1.5 millions cb.mt. concrete, zero slump and aggregates up to 100 mm., to be supplied within a timetable concentrated within 6 months, for an average hourly production capacity of 150 cb.mt. for each mixer. 1993 UTEVAL Dam project in Tarazona - Spain Concrete mixing plant manufactured in co-operation with Spanish company Talleres Alquezar SA - Zaragoza, equipped with two units MSO 4500 twin shaft mixers, Dam version, designed for RCC production. 1994 CUENCA Centro Sur Dam project in Ecuador Concrete mixing plant designed, manufactured and installed for the client Coandes Company - Quito Ecuador, for the construction of the Cuenca Dam in the southern mountains region in Ecuador at 3800 mt. a.s.l. height; the plant is equipped with one unit MSO 2500 twin shaft mixer, dam version, suitable for RCC production with aggregates up to 80-100 mm., for an hourly production of 40 cb.mt., being required a total 100.000 cb.mt. for the completion of the project. 1994 Bogota - Villavicencio highways in Colombia Two concrete mixing plants, designed and manufactured under commitment of the consortium Recchi-Fincosit for the construction of the new highways connecting Bogota and Villavicencio in Colombia; each plant is equipped with one unit MSO 2500 twin shaft mixer completed with by-pass system for dry leg, being suitable to produce variable slump concrete with aggregates up to 100 mm.

1989-1990 Mobile mixing plants for the Group Ciment Francais Twenty-two mobile mixing plants named EUROMIX manufactured in co-operation with BETP company (Guerande - France), each one equipped with twin shaft mixer model MSO 2500, supplied to the Group Ciment Francais for concrete production required within different projects in France, such as: the triumph arc La Defence in Paris, the enlargement of landing strips in Paris and Lyon airports, the high-speed railways of TGV, the enlargement of Marseille port docks. 1997 RMC Anderson - Hong Kong - the ultimate Super Plant The MSO 9000, the biggest twin shaft mixer of the world ever manufactured, has been dispatched to the site where the Super Plant for RMC Hong Kong will be erected nearby the new airport area. The mixer has a capacity of 6 cubic meters compacted output per batch, with a mixing time of only 40 seconds: hourly capacity up to 240 cubic meters! RMC will supply high intensity concrete for the most important buildings and works in construction around the airport.

1990 EUROTUNNEL Project Eight concreting trains manufactured in co-operation with the company Demler-Maitrap (Paris) designed for mixing and distribution of concrete inside the tunnels under the British Channel: each train has been equipped with two different twin shaft mixers, one unit model MSO 3700 and one unit model 9000 Super (capacity 7 cb.mt. per cycle of compacted concrete - the biggest twin shaft mixer in the world). When the Eurotunnel project was completed, all the mixers have been sold and installed for ready-mix concrete production within the plants of different companies in Belgium, Holland, Germany and France. 1992 Concrete mixing plants for Ready Mix Concrete Co. Hong Kong Two concrete mixing plants manufactured in cooperation with the company Planters & Co. in Hong Kong, equipped with MSO 4500 twin shaft mixers, for the client ReadyMix Concrete Co. (1st concrete producer in Hong Kong). Hourly production of each plant has been effectively measured up to 120 cb.mt. concrete, having a variable slump between zero and 15 cm., aggregates up to 120 mm., fly-ash and silica components. Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank skyscraper is one of the buildings where high-intensity concrete was supplied through Simem twin shaft mixers.

1994 Concrete mixing plants for Ready Mix Chile Company Six concrete mixing plants manufactured for the client Ready Mix Chile Company based in Santiago, leading concrete company in Chile. The biggest plant was equipped with MSO 6000 twin shaft mixer, for supplying concrete for the construction of the new highways around Santiago. The production of the plant has achieved 150 cb.mt. per hour, with a wide variability of the required mix-design: between zero and 15 cm. slump, with aggregates up to 150 mm., homogeneity under DIN 1045 rules. 1995 Gran Stade Paris - Football World Championship Two concrete mixing plants, designed and manufactured in cooperation with the company Imer France, under commitment of the Group Bouygues-Dumez, for the construction site of the new ìsuper-stadiumî in Paris, where next World Football Championship will be organised. Each plant is equipped with one MSO 3000 twin shaft mixer, for an hourly production up to 100 m3 concrete with variable slump. 1995 Pre-casting factories of the Chinese Communications Ministry in Shanghai Concrete mixing plant installed within the pre-casting factories of the Chinese Communications Ministry in Shanghai for the production of pre-stressed piles: the plant is equipped with 2 units MSO 1500 twin shaft mixers, and it has been designed to supply the required 800 m3 concrete for daily production. 1995 Abraham Dam - Ciudad Real - Spain Two complete mixing plants, flanked in the construction site of the Abraham Dam project in the province of Ciudad Real in Spain. Each plant has been equipped with MSO 3000 twin shaft mixer dam version, suitable to mix aggregates up to 100 mm. diameter. 1996 Eight units MSO 6000 for YTL BUILDCON - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia The YTL Group is one of the leading cement and concrete producers in Malaysia; during 1996 they planned the construction of 8 tower plants to be locally manufactured and integrated with imported mixers.
