SELECTING A GENERATOR Follow these simple steps to help you calculate the running and starting watts necessary for your purposes. 1. Select the electrical devices you plan on running with the generator. 2. Calculate the maximum running watts of these items. This is the amount of power you need to keep your items running. 3. Identify the highest start wattage of all devices. 4. Choose a generator with a rated output of at least the total watts required. Include a 10% contingency. Converting voltage and amperage to watts Volts (240) x Amps = Watts For example, a 5 amp appliance requires 1200 watts to run (5x240). Start up power In addition, appliances with electric motors such as drills, refrigerators, air conditioners and power saws, need an extra boost of watts at start up. This can be substantially higher than the operating figure printed on the compliance plate, and depends on the type of motor. To prolong the life of your generator and attached devices, follow these steps when adding electrical load: Start the generator with no electrical load attached. Allow the engine to run for several minutes to stabilise. Plug in and turn on the first item. Attach the item with the largest load first. Allow the engine to stabilise. Plug in and turn on the next item. Allow the engine to stabilise. Repeat steps for each additional item. Never exceed the generator capacity when adding a load. SAFETY & GREENPOWER GENERATORS Because of our nation s size, remoteness and our love of the great outdoors, generators are a widely used appliance to access reserve power in areas of leisure, work, travel or emergency. Although LPG has been used for over 100 years, it has been mainly used for home cooking or heating. The use of LPG as engine fuel is a relatively new market. Up until now generators have been fuelled by petrol or diesel. Whilst giving us access to reserve power, petrol and diesel have some serious downsides. More durable, more reliable POLLUTION & SAFETY A normal petrol powered generator can produce a hundred times more colourless, odourless carbon monoxide gas than a modern car s exhaust. Recent reports recommend that petrol generators should not be operated within 10 metres of a premises. Petrol/diesel generators require explicit warning labels, warning the consumer of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning associated with operating a portable petrol/diesel generator. Gas / LPG generators emit low emissions, no smoke and minimal smell which is beneficial to people s health and the environment. Greenpower generators also have a triple lock safety system Lock 1 closes the LPG gas supply, Lock 2 closes the engine switch cutting off the gas supply and Lock 3 automaticaly cuts off the gas supply inside the air-fuel mixer when the engine stops running. Ability to operate using clean, green Bio Gas. OPERATING COSTS Gas generators provide fuel savings compared to petrol or diesel generators. Healthier and safer Longer life span
For a sustainable future Globally trusted RELIABILITY The life of a gas generator is considerably longer than a petrol or diesel equivalent. In a petrol generator, petrol dilutes the oil which decreases the effectiveness of the oil to do its job in lubricating the engine cylinder. With the gas generator there is absolutely no dilution of the oil which will, under normal operating conditions, give the user an increase of up to 25% in operating life span. Because of the reduction in voltage fluctuations, gas generators can be used for precision instruments and meters with < 5% THD*. * THD Total Harmonic Distortion (electrical sine wave) Sold in over 40 countries 20% 15% 10% 5% 0% Sine Wave Variation (less than 5%) Exciting Type Alternator Advanced technology SIMPLICITY The generators are both easy and simple to use. Just hook up the Greenpower gas generator to any suitable gas bottle, or natural gas line*, and you are ready to go. No risk of fuel blockage due to stale fuel or fuel residue deposits, even if the equipment has not been used for long periods of time. * Use a licensed installer Omega Greenpower 1800 50 50 88 www.theomegagroup.com.au
