BLAST NOZZLES BROCHURE
TYPES OF BLAST NOZZLES A blast nozzle is designed to accelerate and direct an air and abrasive mixture to the work surface for increased production. Blast nozzles are available in a variety of nozzle styles, liner materials, and jacket materials. The nozzle style is determined by the application. The liner material is determined by the abrasive used. The jacket material protects the liner from external damage. Typical applications include blast rooms, blast yards, bridges, offshore platforms, oil refineries, pipelines, railcar shops, shipyards, storage tanks, and water towers. Long Venturi nozzles increase velocity as much as 400%, yielding up to a 40% increase in productivity, compared to straight bore nozzles. Long Venturi nozzles create a wide blast pattern when abrasive blasting at distances of 24 to 36 from the the work surface. Long Venturi nozzles are available in Brass Poly and All Poly jackets. abrasive entry 1 LONG VENTURI abrasive exit Long Venturi with Wide-Entry nozzles offer the same benefits as Long Venturi nozzles with the additional feature of a larger diameter entry. Standard Long Venturi nozzles have a 1 diameter entry, where the Long Venturi with Wide-Entry nozzles have a 1-1/4 diameter entry to reduce restrictions and turbulence at the nozzle entry. The overall design of the Long Venturi with Wide-Entry nozzle improves abrasive flow and increases the size of the abrasive blasting pattern, resulting in a production increase of up to 15% over Long Venturi nozzles with a standard entry. Long Venturi with Wide-Entry nozzles are available in Brass Poly and All Poly jackets. Short Venturi nozzles increase velocity as much as 400%, yielding up to a 40% increase in productivity, compared to straight bore nozzles. Short Venturi nozzles are ideal for abrasive blasting at distances of 12 to 18 from the work surface, producing the same size pattern as a Long Venturi. Short Venturi nozzles are available in All Poly jackets. abrasive entry 1-1/4 abrasive entry orifice LONG VENTURI WITH WIDE-ENTRY 1 orifice SHORT VENTURI orifice abrasive exit abrasive exit Angle Nozzles create a tight blast pattern, ideal for abrasive blasting in areas with limited access. Angle nozzles direct the air and abrasive mixture through an opening in the side of the nozzle body to access difficult to reach work surfaces. Angle Nozzles are available with single and multiple outlets and angles of 45, 90, 125, and 135. abrasive entry 1 ANGLE NOZZLE abrasive exit 1
LINER LIFE COMPARISON & INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY Liner Life Comparison High Boron Carbide Nozzle Liner Life Silicon Carbide Tungsten Carbide Low Impact Durability High 1-1/4 ABRASIVE ENTRY 1 I.D. ABRASIVE ENTRY Increase Production Rates Up To 15% A 15% production increase can be achieved by maintaining a consistent 1-1/4 I.D. abrasive path from the Blast Pot to the Blast Nozzle. A 1-1/4 Wide-Entry Blast Nozzle features a 25% larger entry port than a 1 entry nozzle, allowing abrasive to smoothly flow from the blast hose into the blast nozzle without restrictions. Blastmaster Super-Flex Abrasive Blasting Hose has a 1-1/4 inner diameter with an outer diameter of 1-7/8. This hose construction provides greater flexibility and reduced weight to reduce operator fatigue and increase production rates. 1-1/4 I.D. SUPER-FLEX ABRASIVE BLASTING HOSE 1 I.D. ABRASIVE BLASTING HOSE Using 1-1/4 I.D. Blastmaster Super-Flex Abrasive Blasting Hose with a 1-1/4 Wide-Entry Abrasive Blasting Nozzle maintains a consistent path for the air and abrasive mixture into the blast nozzle. Eliminating restrictions reduces turbulence and particle rebound at the nozzle entry, providing maximum abrasive velocity and production rates. 2
ABRASIVE BLASTING EFFICIENCY & AIR CONSUMPTION CHART Optimizing Your Abrasive Blasting Efficiency Abrasive blasting at optimal pressure for the abrasive used is critical to productivity. Example: for an abrasive with an optimal abrasive blasting pressure of 100 psi at the abrasive blasting nozzle, one pound per square inch of pressure loss will reduce abrasive blasting efficiency by 1.5%. A 10 psi reduction in air pressure will cause a 15% loss of efficiency. Use a Needle Pressure Gauge to identify pressure drops in your system. Consult with your abrasive supplier for the requirements of your abrasive. Replace Blast Nozzle if liner or jacket is cracked or damaged. Replace nozzle if original orifice size has worn 1/16 or more. Determine nozzle wear by inserting a drill bit 1/16 larger than original size of nozzle orifice. If drill bit passes through nozzle, replacement is needed.
