Product overview Spin-on filters W type Page 10-12 Spin-on filters as full-flow filters are used for te filtration of oil. Te raw oil flows in troug te outside oles in te cover plate of te filter and leaves again troug te central tread. Depending on te requirements, te spin-on filters are equipped wit bypass valves, nonreturn valves, ascending pipes or similar. WP type Page 14 Partial-flow filters or a combination of full-flow and partialflow filters as a spin-on filter. Te dirty oil flows in troug te outer oles in te filter mounting plate. In te filter te oil flow is divided into a full and partial flow and ten leaves on te filtered side wit different degrees of filtration fineness. Product overview Hig pressure filters Page 43 Filters wit a ousing designed to andle pressures up to 0 bar. A wide variety of filter elements allows use in many varied application areas in all industrial fields, especially in ydraulics. Strainer filters Page 51 Strainer filters are used as a cost-effective solution for te pre-filtration of liquids or as a protection filter. Tey ave a low flow resistance and filter liquids troug particle separation on te strainer surface. Centrifuges Page 55 Centrifuges ave an external ousing cover and a central spindle around wic a rotor turns at ig speed. Te resulting centrifugal force serves to separate te finest particles (soot) from te lube oil. Centrifuges are partialflow filters and are operated in combination wit a full-flow filter. Gap-type filters Page 91 Gap-type filters always find application wen coarse particles ave to be separated from eavily contaminated liquids. Tese are surfacetype filters. During normal operation a filter cake forms wic is cleaned away manually or wit te support of a motor. 6

MANN+HUMML Spin-on oil filters 7

MANN+HUMML Spin-on oil filters MANN+HUMML spin-on filters are used for te filtration of lube oils, ydraulic oils and coolants in a variety of applications. MANN+HUMML as been a leading producer worldwide of spin-on filters for more tan twenty years. Te filters are distributed under te MANN-FILTR brand and a number of customer brands. Te advantages at a glance: Available wit a variety of filter media fficient separation and ig dirt olding capacity wit minimal pressure drop Robust, corrosion-protected ousing wit ig pulsation and pressure stability Improved flow geometry Bypass valves wit clearlydefined opening caracteristics and leak-free closing Undetacable seals Stable central tube resistant to collapse Non-return valve wit minimal pressure drop Design Maintenance Te spin-on filter consists of a robust metal ousing wit a filter element fitted inside. Depending on te application, te spin-on filter can be equipped wit various components suc as a different filter medium, a non-return valve, a bypass valve, etc.. Te liquid to be filtered flows into te cover plate troug concentric openings, flows troug te filter element and finally te cleaned liquid exits troug te central connection. An undetacable seal integrated in te cover plate ensures optimum sealing to te outside under all operating conditions. Te time for maintenance is usually defined by te engine or macine manufacturer. Maintenance simply requires replacement of te complete spin-on filter. Te spin-on filter can easily be removed using a MANN+HUMML filter wrenc (see page 105). MANN+HUMML Spin-on oil filters Oil filters Te W and WD type MANN+HUMML spin-on filters are mostly used for te filtration of oil as full-flow filters, wereby te complete flow of oil flows troug te filter. As an option, a bypass valve can be fitted wic opens for cold starts to ensure tere is always an adequate flow of oil. On request an integrated non-return valve on te raw and clean sides prevents emptying of te spin-on filter wen te engine is not in operation. Tus wen te engine starts te lube oil reaces te lubrication points more quickly. Partial-flow filter Te WP type partial-flow filter is a spin-on filter from MANN+HUMML fitted wit a very fine medium. Te amount of fine particles in te oil is reduced leading to less engine wear. At te same time tere is a positive influence on te pumping caracteristics of te oil. In addition to partial-flow filters te MANN+HUMML product range also includes a combination of a full-flow/ partial-flow filters (WP type, see page 14). MANN+HUMML Centrifuges 55

MANN+HUMML Centrifuges MANN+HUMML is te market leader worldwide for centrifuges. Tis product range provides ig performance filtration solutions for partial-flow oil. Te MANN+HUMML centrifuges efficiently separate dirt particles suc as soot particles and particles resulting from te abrasion of metal in lube oils in diesel engines. Tis tecnology is also suitable and efficient for gearboxes, ydraulic systems and oter industrial applications. Te advantages at a glance: Improved purity of te oil xtended oil service life Longer service intervals Reduced engine wear Preventative engine protection Reduced maintenance costs Lower disposal costs Less engine down-times Maximum availability for veicles, engines and macines Lower running costs in total Improved combustion process and reduced fuel consumption Supports systems to minimise exaust emissions (e.g. exaust gas recirculation) An investment wic quickly pays for itself 56

Function Oil is pumped into te centrifuge and directed into a ollow spindle from were it is pressed troug a cross-ole into te rotor of te centrifuge. Wen te rotor is full of oil te resulting pressure forces it out troug two tangential and opposite nozzles in te bottom of te rotor. Tis causes te rotor to rotate quickly. Te centrifugal force in te rotor causes te dirt particles present accelerate radially and deposit on te internal wall of te rotor. In te course of operation tese deposits form a tick cake. Installation instructions A MANN+HUMML centrifuge is eiter integrated in te engine concept of te OM product or can be retrofitted by te end user to existing engines. Te partial-flow centrifuge requires a supply of oil under pressure. In most applications te oil feed is acieved using normal engine pressure and via te lube oil pump. If te oil pressure is insufficient, a supplementary pump can be fitted. Te deviation between te longitudinal and vertical axis of te centrifuge sould not excee5. A greater degree of inclination occurring temporarily troug operation of te engine can be ignored. MANN+HUMML can adapt te centrifuge specifications for special applications wic require a greater degree of inclination. Gravity allows te oil to return from te centrifuge to te oil sump witout pressure. Terefore te oil return must be above te oil level. Te oil return pipe must ave a sufficiently large internal diameter and as low a resistance as possible. In te process of dimensioning a centrifuge for an engine application it is essential tat te lube oil system of te engine as sufficient reserves to ensure te additional oil requirement for te operation of te partial-flow centrifuge. Tis must not compromise te amount of lubrication required for te engine components. In most cases te engine oil pump as enoug power to operate a partial-flow centrifuge if it is correctly dimensioned for te respective engine. Your MANN+HUMML contact partner will be appy to advise you on te coice and installation of an oil centrifuge. In cases were te retrofitting of a centrifuge directly to te engine is difficult or impossible, MANN+HUMML offers solutions for an external fitting solution were te oil return flow to te oil sump is made using compressed air. Tis means a permanent supply of compressed air is required. 57

MANN+HUMML Service switces for in-line filters and ig pressure filters Instructions for electrical installation of te service switc Te service switc is equipped wit a ig quality electromagnetic switc (reed switc). In order to acieve a reliable function, please observe te following: 1. For an electrical or optical display we recommend use of a glow lamp or LD. Bot can be directly switced witout a spark quencing device. ~ U B = + - Dimension te R V so tat I F is approx. 15... 20 ma Glow lamp R V ~ U B I F LD 2. Filament lamps require a very ig starting current relative to teir load current. Te lamp and a series resistor sould be dimensioned suc tat te maximum load of te switc (see rating plate) is not exceeded wen switcing on. We recommend selecting te series resistor suc tat te switc as te max. load witout consideration of te glow lamp resistance. It is tereby protected against overload but te glow lamp ligts up wit low voltage. ~ Resistor Filament lamp 3. Wen switcing inductive loads voltage peaks can be induced wic in some circumstances may cause te service switc to malfunction. For alternating current an RC combination sould be connected parallel to te relay or contactor coil and wit direct current a freeweeling diode (e.g. diode 1 N 07) in reverse direction. Wen dimensioning te spark quencing device te instructions of te respective contactor or relay sould be observed. Capacitator Resistor Inductive resistance Freeweeling diode In bot cases te maximum load for te switc (see rating plate) must not be exceeded. 108

Tecnical Annex 109

Filter glossary ß x value Te beta value is te ratio of a quantity of particles of a given size of te particle upstream of te filter to te quantity of tese particles found downstream from te element. xample: Upstream tere are 75 particles of te size 3 µm and downstream tere is only one suc particle. Te filter ten as te caracteristics ß 3 > = 75. Te conversion to separation efficiency is as follows: η = 11/ß x. Bursting pressure Te failure of a filter element as fluid flows from te inside to te outside as a result of excessive differential pressure or too ig a static pressure. Bypass valve Te bypass valve ensures te oil flow to te lubrication point, e.g. wit a cold-start, tick oil or a clogged filter. Coalescence Te beaviour of small droplets in fluids wereby varying surface tensions and forces of coesion cause te droplets combine to form larger droplets. Tis effect is used in preliminary fuel filters for te separation of water. Collapse pressure Te failure of te filter troug collapsing as te liquid flows from te outside to te inside as a result of excessive differential pressure over te filter. Deep-bed filters Dirt particles penetrate te filter medium and retained by te structure of te filter medium. Te design of te deep-bed filter allows te igest filter fineness and ig dirt olding capacity. Deepbed filters are replaced at te end of te product life. It is usually not possible to clean tem. Differential pressure In a filter tis is te pressure difference between te raw and clean side. Dirt olding capacity [g] Te dirt olding capacity of a filter or filter element is te mass of te dirt under test conditions wic is added until te agreed end of te test. Dirt load Te amount of dirt particles te filter is confronted wit. Filter cake Tis is formed by separated particles wic are deposited on te surface of te element. Te filter cake as te effect of an additional filter, but also increases te flow resistance. Filter dimensioning Tis mainly depends on te factors of volume flow, filter fineness, amount of dirt particles and te required service life of te filter. Filter element Tis is te component witout te ousing wic is responsible for te actual filtration process. Full flow Te complete oil volume flows troug te filter. Gap-type filters Surface-type filters Filters wic separate dirt particles using a filter element wit a defined gap widt, e.g. troug layers of plates or discs or wound wire. Graded medium Te description of a singlelayer fuel filter medium wit a ig initial separation efficiency and ig dirt olding capacity. Te medium is more open on te inflow side tan on te outflow side. In-line filters Filters fitted in pipe or ose lines. Micron specifications In connection wit fuel filters common reference is made to µm specifications witout reference to a test standard. In tis catalogue all te separation efficiencies are accor- ding to ISO. Filter glossary Medium Material used to carry out te filtration. Multigrade Description of a ig performance, multi-layer medium for a fuel filter. Multipass test for oil filters Defined in ISO 4548-12 wit calibration acc. to ISO 16 889. A defined amount of particles are added until a defined differential pressure over te filter element is reaced. Tis results in te separation efficiency caracteristic over time, te ß value and te filter service life. Nominal flow rate [l/min] Te nominal flow rate relates closely to te geometric dimensioning data of te filter (nominal connection diameter, filter fineness) and te pysical caracteristics of te liquid to be filtered (density, viscosity). Nominal pressure [bar/mbar/kpa] Te filter is dimensioned to andle tis pressure. Opening pressure [bar, kpa] Te pressure difference wen te bypass valve is opened, caracterised by a defined volume flow. Operating pressure [bar, mbar, kpa] Te filter is dimensioned to work at tis operating pressure. Partial flow A partial flow is diverted between te pump and lubrication points and ten immediately directed to te oil sump via a partial-flow filter. Te partial-flow filter is considerably finer tan a full-flow filter and primarily reduces te soot particle content in te lube oil. Particle separation efficiency for a fuel filter Specifications for te initial separation efficiency are according to ISO 13 353. PreLine Te MANN+HUMML brand name for a preliminary fuel filter wit water separation. Te filter is equipped wit te patented multigrade medium. Separation efficiency [%] Ratio of te dirt particles retained by te filter to te dirt particles present. Separation efficiency, absolute In one flow troug te filter 99% of te particles of a given size are separated. xample: 15 µm absolute. Particles of te size 15 µm are 99% separated in one flow troug te filter. Separation efficiency, fractional [%] Te separation efficiency for a given particle size. Determined by a multipass test. Separation efficiency, nominal In one flow troug te filter 50% of te particles of a given size are separated. xample: 15 µm nominal. Particles of te size 15 µm are 50% separated in one flow troug te filter. Spin-on filters Filters were maintenance simply requires replacing te complete filter wit integrated filter element. Surface-type filters Dirt particles collect on te surface of te filter element. Te formation of a filter cake enables te additional separation of particles smaller tan te pore size of te filter element. It is usually possible to clean surface-type filters. Viscosity Te dynamic viscosity is a measurement of te tickness of te liquid medium to be filtered. Te kinematic viscosity is te ratio of te dynamic viscosity of te medium to its density. Water separation efficiency for fuel filter Specifications for water separation are according to ISO 20. 111
