orld s First Matrix Converter The Next Generation of Medium-Voltage (MV) Drives The MX1S Medium-Voltage Matrix Converter has features unmatched in the Medium-Voltage (MV) drive industry. It is the world s first MV drive to employ matrix technology. The matrix design directly converts input AC voltage to output AC voltage without the need for a DC bus. This provides a drive with full regenerative capability and with minimal input and output harmonic content no filters required. High torque loop bandwidth allows precise torque control at low speeds (even at zero speed). The MX1S is by far the best choice for high-performance MV drive applications. Applications Fans and Pumps (Variable Torque) Dust Blowers Incinerators Boilers IDFs Descaling Pumps Sewer Pumps Drain Pumps General Industrial Machines (Constant Torque) Extruders Mixers Centrifuges Kilns Banbury Mixers Dynamometers Overhauling Loads (Regenerative Torque) Downhill Conveyors Paper or Steel Unwinders Material Handling The MX1S is the optimum drive for applications that require operation at low speeds or quick response to deceleration. High torque loop bandwidth and full regenerative capability accommodate dynamic load conditions. Excellent zero-speed and low-speed performance. 2
High Performance The MX1S Offers Full Torque Acceleration and Deceleration and Recovers Stored Energy Dynamic Operation at All Speeds ith the power regeneration function that returns energy to the AC lines when the motor decelerates, your machinery can quickly respond to sudden commands for speed change, either up or down. The MX1S offers excellent low-speed performance and is also ideal for overhauling loads. +100% Speed Reference Actual Speed Torque Reference Power* Power-supply Current Motor Current Motor Voltage 100% 10 s * Power above the reference line is motoring. Power below the reference line is regenerating. Outstanding Energy Savings The input power factor is maintained at 0.95 or higher regardless of speed or load, minimizing losses in the input AC lines. The MX1S high-quality output waveform eliminates the need for output filters and minimizes motor heating, saving energy in both cases. The matrix technology provides efficiency of 98%. The inherent regenerative capability of the MX1S allows the recovery of mechanical stored energy on deceleration, or continuously for overhauling loads. No Harmonic Issues The MX1S Matrix Technology Eliminates Harmonic Issues on Both Input and Output No Input Harmonic Mitigation Required The input waveform is sinusoidal, equal to that of a 24- pulse transformer. The MX1S meets IEEE 519 without supplemental filtering. Input aveform Voltage No harmonic filters equals less heat and higher reliability. Current Apply Directly to Existing Motors and Cabling The output waveform is a sinusoid that generates no harmful surge voltage. Output aveform Existing motors and cables can be used. Motor Voltage Motor Current Low Initial Setup and iring Costs with Simple Configuration The revolutionary technology used in the MX1S reduces installation cost by eliminating the need for many peripheral devices: No input power factor correction No output filter No DC link capacitors No external input filter No braking unit 2402 V Phase Voltage U U1 U2 U3 U4 4160 V Line Voltage Cooling Fan Transformer U1 U2 U3 U4 V1 V2 V3 V4 1 2 3 I/O Controller 1 2 3 4 V4 V3 V2 V1 V Input 4.16 kv Motor 4 Matrix Converter 4
