general information on MGM brake motors MGM brake motors are asynchronous three phase totally enclosed fan cooled motors. In case of power failure motors brake ensuring a precise stop and emergency braking action. This security feature provides immediate intervention when there is unintentional power supply failure (f.e. power supply black out, equipment failure). The braking action is obtained without axial sliding of the shaft and provides equal braking torque in both directions of rotations. MGM brake motors are especially suitable in all situations where precision and rapid braking is required, or to reduce production cycles in fixed spaces and times. MGM brake motors are not a simple assembly of a standard motor with a brake group but rather they are specifically designed as complete brake motors; the perfect engineering and assembling combined with a strong and safe brake guarantee a great reliability. MGM brake motors are designed to withstand a high number of starts and stops. The brake disc lining material is asbestos free with a high friction coefficient and a long life span. The motors are supplied as standard with an IP54 protection degree; class F insulation materials are used. On request it is possible to have higher protection degree (IP55, IP56) and class H insulation. All MGM motors are suitable to operate with inverters. On request it is possible to supply the motor with a second shaft end to fit tachogenerator or encoder. MGM brake motors range displayed on the table consists of (725) and BM (63132) series. series brake motors have a very strong AC or DC brake while BM series brake motors have a soft and low noise DC brake. series brake motors for wind turbine generators series brake motors are widely used on yaw and pitch systems of wind turbine generators. The series consists of three phase, asynchronous brake motors starting from 71 frame size up to 225. The motors are equipped as standard with an AC brake while DC brake is available on request. The DC brake rectifier is located inside the terminal board box and it s supplied as standard with an over voltage safety protector. It is possible to choose between many different motor voltage supplies. The braking torque adjustment is a very simple operation and a wide braking torque is available. On request it s possible to order the brake motor with the braking torque adjusted according to the application requirements. All series motors are provided with manual brake release and a hexagonal hole for the manual shaft rotation. The brake disc has a large friction surface that allows the adjusting of the air gap at long maintenance intervals. The brake surface is selfventiled and this solution allows constant braking time and a high braking workload, specially required in the wind turbine applications. The brake lining material is asbestos free. The brake surface and the brake moving element are cast iron made. The brake moving element and brake coil have a laminated core to reduce electrical losses and to ensure an extremely quick brake intervention. The frame is die cast made up to 132 frame size and cast iron from 160 to 225. The shields and the flanges are aluminium made up to frame size and cast iron from 100 to 225. On request it s possible to supply special motors suitable for offshore wind turbine generators. MGM can provide E series brake motors with integrated encoder. MGM motors can also be provided with ccsaus approval for the North American market. For further available options please contact MGM technical support. series main features are a particularly solid construction, a very short braking reaction time, a high and constant braking torque, mainly needed to ensure precision in positioning, the capability to handle frequent and heavy load braking cycles, long maintenance intervals, a very simple construction that makes easier any custom adjustment. B3 foot mounted execution has integrated support feet giving to the structure a notable robustness.
