Product Description The 3052 has a 304 stainless steel, NEMA 4X, enclosure. The enclosure s unique design allows the installing technician to place the instrument on a desk or bench; a desk/wall mount bracket (357 Accessory) is available in the 3052 accessory section of the Product Catalog. The instrument features a.75 tall LCD display for crystal-clear viewing. Commercially rated at 5,000 divisions, the 3052 instrument is equal to, or exceeds, most Intrinsically Safe weighing applications requirements. It comes with the 352 rechargeable battery, which supplies power for up to 50 hours of continuous use, and the 533 safe-area re-charger. Available accessories include a heavy-duty 575 rechargeable battery and a 5816 direct power supply. The 3052 Series is approved for all hazardous area applications, provided the load cell is Factory Mutual approved per drawing 3-57747 and a Fairbanks battery is used for the power source. The 352 rechargeable battery and 533 safe area re-charger are standard features on the 3052 instrument and do NOT need to be ordered separately. Additional 352 batteries are available. You will find the 3052 Series instrument in the Intrinsically Safe section of the Product Catalog. Why would someone want to buy a 3052 Instrument? This product is specifically designed for hazardous environments. With ever-increasing insurance rates and liability lawsuits, the 3052 instrument provides our customers a layer of protection against these inevitabilities. Fuels, Chemicals and Textiles are just a few of the many areas for which the 3052 Series was intended. Whether it is a tank application using three 9104 Omnicells or a 60-pound capacity Delta Series bench scale, the 3052 Series will save the day! Another customer has an application with a Series 7 bench scale, but doesn t have any local power. The application requires moving the scale from job-to-job, as required. With an 8-to-10- hour workday, the 3052 Series will easily satisfy these requirements, while recharging the battery each night for the next day. The 3052 Series is capable of 50 hours of continuous use, and when used with the power saver mode, up to 200 hours is typical. The 3052 instrument works great with Fairbanks 2512 Low Profile Drum Scale with wheelbase assembly, and makes an extremely portable scale. The 3052 will bolt directly to the wheelbase assembly s indicator stand. The full numeric keypad gives the ability to key-in tare values. For many applications, this is an extremely time saving feature that eliminates the need to electronically Tare each container s weight. This is a competitively-priced Intrinsically Safe indicator with features specifically designed for real world applications. This instrument does not provide our customers with bells and whistles that are seldom needed and seldom used in applications as described above. SDL # 6664 Page 2 of 2
Other FM Approved Fairbanks Instruments In FM applications where the 3052 instrument doesn t fit the customer s needs, Fairbanks offers the FM-approved 2800 Series instrument to fulfill any high-end application requirements. Fairbanks also offers the QuickSilver IS instrument for bench scale and checkweighing applications. Fairbanks has the right product for every application requirement. The 3052 Series instrument is designed for hazardous applications. To understand how it works, we first need to understand the purpose of intrinsically safe equipment. A hazardous environment is an area that has the potential of ignition, such as aircraft hangars, refineries, textile mills, etc. Standard electronic equipment in these areas would dramatically increase the chances for an explosion due to their electronic array. Mechanical weighing equipment of the past would not create a problem for these applications, however, newer digital weighing technology must take special precautions to eliminate the chance of explosion. The digital indicator reduces the amount of electrical energy to the scale to a level below what would be required to cause ignition in a hazardous environment. Please understand that the ignition level will vary depending on the hazardous area. An acetylene bottling facility has greater potential for explosions at a lower electrical energy level than a grain elevator. This is why hazardous areas are listed with a Class, Division, and Group rating based on their potential. The 3052 Series Instrument operates on a lower voltage and current than a typical digital indictor. Additionally it supplies a lower voltage/current to the scale base. By limiting the amount of voltage, the 3052 Series is not capable of producing a spark, thus eliminating the possibility of explosion in normal or abnormal operating conditions in a hazardous environment. How is the 3052 Series different from other instruments? The 3052 differs from other instruments: Intrinsically Safe rating for use in all hazardous environments when used with the 352 intrinsically safe rechargeable battery (14618). When used with the Direct Power Supply (14177 and 14178) the 3052 is rated for all hazardous environments except Groups A & B. The 352 battery makes it extremely portable. Battery life is between 50 and 250 hours. The battery must be recharged (14692) in a safe area. Both the 352 battery and recharger are standard features of the 3052 instrument. Primary Scale Markets Chemical Drexel Chemical Corp Montsanto Uniroyal J.R. Simplot Novartis Helena Abbott Labs United Industries Corp and many more Chemical manufacturers, suppliers and equipment providers have their own unique uses for scale equipment. One thing that they have in common is hazardous areas within each facility. In these hazardous areas, scales are required for a variety of different uses: manual batching, general weighing and filling, just to name a few. The 3052 Series provides an FM Approved instrument to couple with a variety of scale bases. Pharmaceutical Bristol-Meyers Squibb Merck & Co Procter & Gamble SmithKline Beecham Searle Many pharmaceutical applications require one of two things in their weighing equipment: FM Approval and/or Portability. The 3052 Series instrument comes with a rechargeable battery, making it extremely portable. A full numeric keypad allows easy entry of tare values for applications with different size storing, i.e. boxes, beakers, bowls, etc. What is Fairbanks trying to accomplish with this Product? The new and improved 3052 instrument further accentuates Fairbanks Scales as the leader in Intrinsically Safe weighing equipment technology. Hazardous environments are becoming more of a focus for OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) in 2005. When our customers couple the Fairbanks FM approved products with the expertise of our service fleet, they are guaranteed a safe working environment. SDL # 6664 Page 4 of 4
