1. Function overview Wall control units DALI WCU 2/4/8 ADVANCED W/M can be used to operate a DALI ADVANCED system. Various functions can be assigned to the wall control units. The wall control units are available as 1-channel (2 switches), 2-channel (4 switches) and 4-channel (8 switches) versions and with either a white or metallic finish. Each pair of facing switches belongs to one channel. Button positions: white metallic 1-channel version: Fig. A 2-channel version: 4-channel version: A signal is sent when a button is pressed. An LED lights up by way of confirmation. Each transmitter is equipped with a three-way function switch (DIP switch) at the back for setting the required functions on the wall control unit. The following functions are possible depending on the setting: Abb. 2. Operation Channel buttons: Pressing on "+" or "-" for no more than 1 second will switch the lighting system on or off. Holding down "+" or "-" for more than one second will fade the lighting system up or down. Lighting scene: Holding down a scene button (for at least 3 seconds) will store a lighting scene; briefly pressing a scene button will call up the lighting scene. Changing a lighting scene: 1. Set up the lighting arrangement you want with the group buttons. 2. Hold down a lighting scene button until all the lamps "flash" once (this confirms that the scene has been stored). 3. The lighting arrangement you have set up is now stored under the button as a lighting scene. 3. Programming in the DALI ADVANCED central unit The wall control unit must be programmed in the central unit so that the central unit can identify it as part of the system ( see also the operating instructions for the manual programming unit). Important: Each pair of buttons (+ and -) on the wall control unit must be programmed separately as each function can be assigned individually. The "All off" button must be held down for longer than 2 seconds. Before programming in the central unit, the selector switches at the back must be set according to their functions. See Fig. B. Please carry out the following: 1. Unscrew the wall control unit from the base plate as shown in Fig. C. 2. Select the functions for the buttons with the function switch (Fig. D1) on the back of the wall control unit (according to the table in Fig. B). The function can be changed at any time by changing the individual switches on function switch F(2...4). The new function must be programmed in the central unit. 3. Screw the wall control unit back on the base plate. Important: If the function of a wall control unit is changed it is best to delete the old function from the central unit. Programming in the central unit: ( see also the operating instructions for the manual programming unit) 1. Start the "Radio start up" programming mode on the manual programming unit (MPU). 2. Channel programming: Programming a channel button: Press the button for the required channel until the MPU confirms that it has received the signal. In the MPU, define the function that the channel is to perform (e.g. control of group 1). Programming a lighting scene button: Press the required lighting scene button until the MPU confirms that it has received the signal. In the MPU, define the scene that this button is to control (e.g. for lighting scene button 1: control of scene 1). Programming the "All off" button: Press the "All off" button until the MPU confirms that it has received the signal. In the MPU, define the function that this button is to control. The "All off" button, like the channel buttons, can apply either to all the connected receivers (central control) or to just one particular group (e.g. control of group 1). 3. Terminate radio start up on the MPU. This completes the programming process. The programmed functions can be entered in the label field. Deleting channels: Channels that have been programmed can be deleted in the "Untrained Channel" menu option on the manual programming unit (for details see the operating instructions for the manual programming unit). Notes: The maximum duration of transmission is 12 seconds (even if the button is held down longer). We also recommend that you label the wall control unit with the device number indicated on the MPU and enter this number in the documentation for the lighting system. 4. Installation/changing batteries: Important: The wall control unit must not be installed on metal. The distance between the unit and metal parts, such as door frames, must not be less than 10 cm. Electrical equipment may only be installed by qualified electricians. Batteries: The wall control unit operates on two CR 2016 lithium button cells (included). If you press a button for less than 3 seconds and the LED flashes five times, please replace the batteries. Notes on risks and disposal: Important: Keep batteries away from children. If a battery is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Old batteries should be removed immediately and disposed of properly. Replace batteries with ones of the same type. Installing the wall control unit: 1. Remove the label cover carefully with a screwdriver (Fig. C). 2. Loosen the screws underneath the cover and take the wall control unit off the base plate. 3. Attach the base plate of the wall control unit to a level surface (e.g. plaster, wood, glass, mirror or switch box) with adhesive pads or screws. Make sure the letters "TOP" are at the top. 4. Position the unit on the base plate 5. Tighten the screws again. 6. Replace the label cover. Changing the batteries: xx Steps 1 and 2 as above 3.1 Remove the old batteries carefully with a screwdriver through the notch in the casing (Fig. E). Take care not to damage the battery holder. 3.2 Make sure the new batteries are the right way round as shown in Fig. F ( on top). 3.3 Press any button for about 1 second to test the batteries (the LED will light) xx Steps 4 to 6 as above Fig. E: Fig. F: 3 4 2 ON OFF Batt.: 2x CR 2016 ON OFF 4 K3 +/- LS4/LS5 3 K2 +/- LS2/LS3 2 K1 +/- LS1/Alles Aus Page 6 Installation and operating instructions: Wall Control Unit DALI WCU 2/4/8 ADVANCED W/M
4. Notes on radio operation A non-exclusive transmission path is used for radio transmission, which means that interference cannot be ruled out. Radio transmission is not suitable for safety applications, such as emergency shutdown or calls to the emergency services. The range of the unit (up to 30 m in the open) depends on the nature of the building: Dry material Penetration Wood, plaster, plasterboard approx. 90 % Brick, MDF approx. 70 % Reinforced concrete approx. 30 % Metal, metal grating, aluminium approx. 10 % cladding This radio system may only be connected to other communication networks if this does not infringe the relevant national laws. This radio system may not be used for communicating beyond property boundaries. If operated in Germany, the regulations contained in Official Bulletin Vfg 73/2000 must be met. The wall control unit may be operated in all EU and EFTA states. Installation and operating instructions: Wall Control Unit DALI WCU 2/4/8 ADVANCED W/M Page 7
