ALL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS WARNING INFORMATION! This Global Industries, Inc. Construction/Safety manual is written to assist and instruct: 1 Those who are responsible for the complete installation of this feed/farm hopper bin; and 2 All users or others who are on or near this equipment during or after installation is complete. Global Industries Inc. assumes no liability with respect to proper construction and inspection, assembly, or use of its products established under applicable laws, all of which is the sole responsibility of the purchaser and those doing the assembly work. Appurtenances and the accessories manufactured by us for use with our products conform only to applicable Federal or Safety Standards in effect at such time. PROPER PERSONNEL To insure safe use of the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin, ladder, platform, and/or grain systems equipment, make certain only trained persons install, maintain, and use these assemblies. WORK AREA SAFETY STATEMENT Under no circumstances should persons not involved in the operation be allowed to trespass into or be present in the work area. It is the duty of all operators to make certain children and/or other persons stay out of the work area! Trespass into the work area by anyone not involved in the actual operations, or trespass into a hazard area by anyone, shall result in an immediate shut down by the operator. It is the responsibility of all operators to make certain the work area has secure footing and is clean and free of all debris and tools which might cause accidental tripping and/or falling. It is their responsibility to keep the work area clean and orderly during operation. It is also the operator s responsibility to have damaged equipment repaired and to make certain all equipment is made free of sharp edges. SAFETY COMPLIANCE It is your responsibility as an owner or operator or supervisor, to know what specifi c requirements, precautions, and work hazards exist and to make these known to all other personnel working with the equipment or in the area, so they too may take any necessary safety precautions that may be required. Safety AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT SAFETY You may decide to buy and install auxiliary equipment made by other manufacturers. Global Industries, Inc. has no control over the design and manufacture of this equipment. If you buy and install auxiliary equipment then at a minimum we suggest you do the following: 1 Obtain, read, and understand the instructions and cautions of the auxiliary equipment manufacturer. Make certain all equipment is installed according to the manufacturer s instructions. 2 Check with Global Industries, Inc. or your dealer to make certain the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin, ladder, platform, and grain systems equipment are designed to support any additional loads supplied by the auxiliary equipment. 3 Obtain any applicable safety decals from the auxiliary equipment manufacturer and display each safety decal in its correct, visible location. 4 Make certain all electrical equipment is properly installed and grounded by a qualified electrician. 5 Check availability and operation of electrical lockout and emergency stop systems. 6 Make certain all guards and shields are securely in place. 7 Store all operations/maintenance manuals in a safe place available for future use. WARNING! ALL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS WARNING INFORMATION! 9 WORK AREA AND EQUIPMENT SAFETY In this and other manuals, shields and guards may have been removed for illustrative purposes. Do not operate the equipment without shields and guards in place. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious personal injury or death! When climbing on Feed/Farm Hopper Bins or the equipment, take care not to fall into or from the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin. Common sense dictates that such equipment should not be used when conditions such as rain or wind preclude their safe use. Global Industries, Inc. strongly recommends optional climbing equipment be purchased to meet the current regulations and specifications set forth by OSHA or ANSI whether the individual operator is required by law to do so or not. When performing operations work or maintenance work on Global Industries, Inc. products and at all times, use the correct OSHA approved Personal Protective Equipment, Life Saving Equipment, and Fall Protection Equipment, and always follow all OSHA Regulations. Do not attempt construction when the weather makes it unsafe! Especially, stop construction when wind conditions are not favorable! Care must be taken to avoid entanglement in equipment installed in or on the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin. Securely lockout all power, be it electrical or PTO, before working on or near such equipment. Field modification of the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin or auxiliary equipment without the authorization of the manufacturer may present unknown dangers to the operator and must be avoided. The relatively closed environment of a Feed/Farm Hopper Bin may promote the presence of toxic molds, hazardous dust, or a lack of oxygen. Never enter a Feed/Farm Hopper Bin without proper respiration equipment and someone else present to watch you. Heed the warning decals shown on page 7 of this manual. Flowing or crusted grain within a grain bin can cause a person to become buried and suffocate. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC.

Safety WARNING! ALL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS WARNING INFORMATION! OPERATOR QUALIFICATIONS Operation of this unit shall be limited to competent and experienced persons. In order to be qualifi ed, he / she must also know and meet all other requirements, such as, but not limited to, the following: 1 Some laws and regulations specify that no one under the age of 16 years may operate power machinery. It is your responsibility to know what these requirements are in your own area or situation. 2 Current OSHA regulations state in part: At the time of initial assignment and at least annually thereafter, the employer shall instruct every employee in the safe operation and servicing of all equipment with which the employee is, or will be involved. * 3 Unqualifi ed persons are to STAY OUT of the work area. 4 A person who has not read and understood all operating and safety instructions is not qualifi ed to operate the machine. WARNING! WHEN YOU LOAD OR UNLOAD THE FEED/FARM HOPPER BIN, ALWAYS DO IT FROM THE CENTER! This creates an even load on the structure. Off-center loading or unloading creates excessive STRESSES and can cause failure. All Feed/Farm Hopper Bins should be filled at the peak ring center with an auger or spout of adequate length to allow grain to drop straight down into the Feed/Farm Hopper Bin. A leveling device is strongly recommended. WARNING! DO NOT OVERFILL THE FEED/FARM HOPPER BIN ROOF AREA! This prevents proper air movement through roof vents and may also cause roof damage or failure! * Federal Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Agriculture, Subpart D. Section 9128.57 (a) (6). GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 11

Safety WARNING! IMPORTANT: Make certain all persons inside or outside the bin within the work area on (or installing) ladders, lifts, crane lifts, scaffolds, safety cages, platforms, or the like are secure and not in danger of falling! Also make certain the work surfaces are clean and free of clutter. WARNING! Do not cut openings in Feed/Farm Hopper Bins. This reduces the structural strength of the unit and can cause partial or complete Feed/Farm Hopper Bin failure. WARNING! Local, state, and national codes and regulations supersede the instructions provided in this manual and should be strictly adhered to. Contact the manufacturer if you have questions. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 12

Safety Operating Safety WARNING! ALL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS WARNING INFORMATION! FOLLOW THESE (4) BASIC SAFETY RULES Follow the four rules below to make certain that accidents do not occur! Make certain that everyone working with or around your equipment follows these rules! 1 Make certain all covers, grates, and guards are in place and securely fastened before operating! 2 Never step or walk on equipment covers grates or guards! 3 Lockout all power before removing covers, grates, or guards! Secure all chains and belts so they can t move before working on any part of your equipment. 4 Don t modify or redesign your equipment without first obtaining written approval from the manufacturer. Following these 4 basic safety rules is a proven way to reduce accidents! Be certain to provide all employees working on or near your equipment with effective safety training, including management. It is ok to add extra safety rules for your job site but DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other safety procedures for the 4 basic safety rules! Following the safety rules given for the safe use of your equipment requires a commitment at all levels within your company. SECONDARY SAFETY DEVICES Devices such as interlock switches, may be helpful but are not fail safe and should not be substituted for a proper lockout procedure. Do not rely on a switch that can fail, can lose adjustment or can be bypassed. A proper lockout procedure will prevent accidents. REMEMBER! There is no substitute for a commitment to safety! OTHER IMPORTANT OPERATING SAFETY CONCERNS 1 Do not make contact with or place body parts near moving parts or moving equipment! Also remember, do not wear loose clothing near moving parts or moving equipment! 2 Have a safety program in place for all personnel. Make certain all personnel in your work area know where all emergency controls and devices are! 3 Work area lighting is part of work area safety! 4 Completely fence off open conveyors, hoppers or spouts. Place warning signs around your fences. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 13

Safety Lockout WARNING! ALL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS WARNING INFORMATION! FOLLOW A PROPER LOCKOUT PROCEDURE This suggested procedure must be performed EVERY TIME this equipment is worked on. Stick with these steps and they will assist in preventing accidents. 1 Shut down the equipment in a normal manner. 2 Shut off energy to the equipment at the main power source. 3 Turn the power switch back on to confirm that power has been deactivated. 4 Attempt to restart the equipment to guarantee the power is shut off and then return the switch to the off position. 5 Using your own lock, lockout all (other) energy sources which could provide any power to the equipment. 6 With your lock in place test the disconnect to make certain the power cannot be restored. 7 Make absolutely certain the power can t be supplied by any other means to the equipment. 8 All authorized personnel must put his/her own personal lock on the switch to lock it in the off position. Everyone must use only his or her own personal key. 9 Nobody is to return power to the equipment until all work on the equipment has been completed and all locks have been removed. Company management needs to look for maintenance or other employees working on the equipment without following the proper lockout procedure. Management also needs to look for any cover or guard not in its proper place. It is the responsibility of everyone to report any missing grates, guards, equipment failures, or failures to lockout. Make certain no cover is removed unless power is locked out. SAFETY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS Please contact Global Industries, Inc. with any specific Grain Bin or grain systems use safety needs! <2> Site / Foundation BIN SITE LOCATION Check your site locations for possible problems with the following: 1 High-wind or snow-load areas 2 Waterways and run-off 3 Poor soil conditions / soil problems 4 Local codes / permits 5 Power lines 6 Highways 7 Railroads 8 Seismic load 9 Hopper bins CHOOSING A BIN SITE Consideration should be given to convenience in loading and unloading and accessibility to existing and planned facilities. The site should be level, on firm soil, with adequate drainage. Any fill used in leveling the site MUST BE well compacted to prevent uneven settling from weight of the foundation, bin and contents. After the site is completely level, use 1 to 2 [25.4 mm - 50.8 mm] of fill sand to act as a cushion under the concrete slab. Standard foundation drawings and specs are furnished by Global Industries, Inc. showing soil bearing pressures required. It is the obligation of the purchaser to obtain a soil bearing test and ascertain that the foundation has sufficient strength for a capacity filled bin. Unless the finished foundation is level and true, and the site properly graded for water drainage, failure of the foundation could result. This is not covered by the Global Industries, Inc. warranty. At the time your soil is compacted and the foundation is poured, make certain the work is being done in exact accordance with your soil engineer s specifications. Remember - if your soil isn t right, your foundation could TIP AND CRACK - if your foundation isn t right, your bin could fail. The foundation drawings on the following pages are intended as a guide only and are not to be interpreted as firm instruction. If at a later date, the bin is increased in height, the foundation may not be adequate. Anchor bolts should be to specifications and be set when pouring the foundation as improper anchoring will give you a WEAK structure. The bin is ROUND and to keep it round, the anchor bolts should follow a SCRIBED CIRCLE with the correct chord dimensions between the anchor bolts. The hopper legs must rest firmly on the foundation with absolutely no overhang. 15 GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC.

High spots or debris should be removed before setting the bin. 8 Recommended sizes are designed to resist 1.5 times the overturning due to a 30 PSF [1.44 kpa] wind acting on 0.6 x Area of Bin, (with maximum Leg Height). 9 Foundation details in this manual are to be considered general in nature and are intended only as a guide. It is the owner s responsibility to provide an appropriate site and foundation design for the adequate support of the grain bin. Global Industries, Inc. assumes no responsibility arising from these suggestions. 16 GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC.

Specifications Design Specifications This feed/farm hopper bin is designed along guidelines which allow it to provide the owner years of service if it is not used for purposes for which it was not intended. The sidewall gage specifications for your feed/farm hopper bin are found in the Sidewall Gage Build-ups manual section. See page 33. The general material specifications for your bin are as follows: BIN WALLS All bin wall sheets are of corrugated, galvanized steel with 2.66 [67.56 mm] corrugation. Wall sheets have 1.15 oz. per square foot [350 g/m 2 ] zinc coating (G-115 designation). 2.66 corrugation sheets have 32 [812.8 mm] vertical coverage. Horizontal coverage of bin wall sheets is 112 1/2 [2,856 mm] (6 [1.83 m] and 9 [2.74 m] bins) or 131 1/4 (7 [2.13 m] bins). All 5/16 bolts are electro-galvanized grade 8.2 with self-sealing injection molded washers. Sealer strip is provided to seal all vertical sidewall seams. Anchor bolts are standard with all feed/farm hopper bins. STANDARD ROOFS 6 [1.83 m] roofs. (6) 20 gage roof sheets / bin. 7 [2.13 m] roofs. (6) 20 gage roof sheets / bin. 9 [2.74 m] roofs. (9) 20 gage roof sheets / bin. 12 [3.66 m] roofs. (12) 18 gage roof sheets / bin. Steep 40 roof slope. A roof ladder from eave to the peak is standard with your bin. Sealer strip is provided for all roof seams. STANDARD HOPPERS 6 [1.83 m] 60 hopper is 20 gage. 7 [2.13 m] 67 hopper is 18 gage. 9 [2.74 m] 45 hopper is 18 gage. 9 [2.74 m] 60 hopper is 18 gage. 12 [3.66 m] 45 hopper is 14 gage. 12 [3.66 m] 60 hopper is 14 gage. All hopper outlets are 17 1/4 [438 mm] nominal diameter. Sealer strip is provided for all hopper seams. DESIGN CRITERIA Bins are designed to store flowable, noncorrosive material with 50 pound/cubic foot [800.9 kg/m 3 ] bulk density (62 pound/bushel) maximum. Bins are designed to be filled through the center roof opening only, and to be emptied only from the center. Observe the warnings on pages 11-12. Have your builder make all non-bin equipment in excess of MFS/YORK/STORMOR s recommendations. All such equipment including: LEGS, WALKWAYS, SPOUTING, and CONVEYORS must be self supporting. Do not overfill the bin roof area! This may cause roof damage or failure. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 21

For all these bearing type sidewall sheet connections, a snug tight condition is sufficient to ensure structural soundness, where snug tight is defined as the tightness attained by several impacts on an impact wrench, or the full effort of a worker with an ordinary spud wrench that brings the connected sheets into firm contact. A properly tightened bolt must have its seal washer fully seated in the hole and the sheets fully drawn together to produce a water tight seal. 26 GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC.

<4> Pre-Assembly Check Delivery Your feed/farm hopper bin has been carefully checked before shipment. However, you should check your shipment upon arrival using the provided Packing List to insure it is complete. i IMPORTANT NOTE: All galvanized steel is subject to oxidation, sometimes called white rust when exposed to moisture from any source. Plenty of care should be taken to protect sidewall sheets and roof sheets. INSIDE STORAGE IS ADVISABLE. When on the job site, place sheets on edge far enough apart so air will circulate freely. Stand the sidewall sheets on edge in order for use on the concrete near the sidewall construction location. Build the first sidewall ring. Follow the instructions on this page and the next 2 pages throughout construction. Use sealer tape on all vertical seams and horizontally for 10 [254 mm] to 12 [305 mm] from the end of all sheets (see below). a) Sealer Tape at Sidewall Seams 50 [15.2 m] roll (018008) sealer tape at all vertical seams (dashed line indicates tape on other side of sheet) SIDEWALL SHEET outside bin no sealer tape needed here 4 Always overlap the sidewall sheets in (1) direction (see example a on the next page). 5 Use (1) row of sealer tape at all vertical seams. Use sealer tape horizontally for 10-12 [254 mm - 305 mm] from the end of each sheet (example a). Wipe sheets clean before applying the tape. 6 Bolt sidewall sheets together with the bolt head and seal washer to the outside of the bin and the nut to the inside (except at the hopper leg locations as noted in the Legs to Sidewall instructions on page 47). Torque should be applied to the nut rather than the bolt head to avoid damaging the seal washer. 7 Stagger the sidewall sheets in halves as shown in example b on page 31 so the vertical sheet seams fall in the centers of the sheets in the ring above it. no sealer tape needed here Horizontal Sidewall Sheet Seams outside bin inside bin SEALER TAPE (all vertical seams and 10-12 [254 mm - 305 mm] from the end of each sheet). Additional 10-12 strips must be used to fill larger gaps on heavier gages (10 gage and heavier) and laminated sidewall sheets. UPPER SIDEWALL SHEET 5/16 HEX NUT 018913 8 At horizontal seams, sidewall sheets bolt to inside of upper sidewall sheets (example a). 9 The top sidewall ring is punched differently. It is punched for the roof and the bottom ring is punched for the legs and hoppers. 5/16 bin bolt with seal washer inside bin LOWER SIDEWALL SHEET GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 29

Assembly i IMPORTANT NOTE: When starting feed/farm hopper bin construction, pre-plan the roof / sidewall ladders locations. See pages 42-45 and the ladder instructions starting on page 63. a) Overlap Sheets in (1) Direction Only overlap SIDEWALL SHEET Use the provided 5/16 x 1 bin bolts with seal washers and 5/16 flange nuts to bolt sidewall sheets together. Assembly i IMPORTANT NOTE: Make certain the sidewall sheets are correctly positioned so the I.D. COLOR CODES are at the BOTTOM CORNERS of the sidewall sheets! i IMPORTANT NOTE: In many cases it may be preferable to initially rest the bin on its side for assembly. Determine if this will work best for your situation. We suggest using 4 x 4 [100 mm x 100 mm] pieces of wood to keep it from rolling. 2 install the next sidewall ring Install the next sidewall ring staggering sheets (example b). We suggest you install your bin ladder at the same time you build your sidewall. Assembly 3 complete sidewall assembly Install the rest of the sidewall rings to the bin in the same way. Note the hole punching for the legs and hopper on the bottom sidewall ring (example a). 4 tip the bin into the upright position Construction methods and equipment vary. If you are assembling your bin on its side, tip the bin into the upright position (without damaging your bin) at a point during the construction which makes the most sense for your situation. NOTE: Position the roof cap and peak ring so the roof cap will open away from the roof ladder. NOTE: The way sidewall sheets are punched varies according to the feed/farm hopper bin model. a) Complete the Sidewall leg hole punching hopper punching GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 32
