Going beyond the requirements Going beyond the regulatory requirements and voluntarily invoke more stringent standards may be due to: a first mover policy on additional stricter regulations in preparation of future demands, a green certificate gives access to transport buyers (shippers) that require the carrier to take environmental issues into account, economic incentives such as reduced port fees may exist as well. 04/12/2013 Partnerskab for Grøn Skibsfart 8

Pros and cons of a common standard Pros: Systems are available A comprehensive and certifiable system is possible Cons: One size may not fit all Ports not happy to collect Will only work if major ports adhere Will it have any impact? 4/12/2013 Partnerskab for Grøn Skibsfart 20
