It is best decsribed as a fluorocarbon solid. It has multiple uses, although 50% od production is used for space technologies, especially electronics such as insulation and jacketing for wire and cable and capacitor dielectric films. It operates well at extremely high frequencies. Kinetic Chemicals patented the new fluorinated plastic in 1941 and registered the Teflon trademark in 1945. An early use was as gasketing material in the Manhattan project to manage containers, pipes and valves coming into contact with uranium hexafluoride. It was a key part of the space program and operations to the moon. It remains critical in operations of satellites today. Polyamide Film- Du Pont Kapton was invented to because of its significant resistance to sunlight and corona. 1.2 About this report his document addresses the global market for Capacitors and the cost of goods sold for each individual type of Capacitorceramic, aluminum, tantalum and plastic film.
