Incell Smart Lithium Battery - something unique Power back-up systems for telecom has for long been a costly and challenging issue. Batteries need to be frequently changed (every 1-7 years depending on site conditions), diesel is costly and pollutes the environment, actual back-up time and life expectancy is uncertain with batteries due to lack of intelligence. The telecom network of the future needs to be smarter and more cost-effective. Emergency call requirements and competitive environments are making ever-greater demands in terms of availability. We believe that one key factor for our customers success in this area is smart power back-up solutions. Size and weight matters Compared to lead-acid, lithium batteries have many benefits, such as half the size and a quarter of the weight. These attributes enable growth and reduce cost by allowing expansion of your system without increasing the space for the power back-up. You will also reduce cost during transportation, installation as well as reducing the environmental impact. The calendar life is up to 15 years depending on usage and the cycle life is over 6000 full cycles. A lithium battery can operate at any state of charge without effect on the life and does not require boost charge. The result is substantial cost savings over time in terms of investment, installation and maintenance as well as reduced environment impact with fewer transport and site visits. FACTS ABOUT LITHIUM VS. LEAD ACID BATTERIES 1) Weight: Lithium-ion batteries are one-fourth of the weight of lead-acid batteries. 2) Efficiency: Lithium-ion batteries are over 95% efficient (turnaround efficiency). This is 400% better than lead-acid batteries. 3) Discharge: Most lead-acid batteries do not recommend more than 50% depth of discharge, especially in cyclic environments. Lithium batteries can be 100% discharged and operate at any state of charge. 4) Cycle Life: Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries cycle over 6000 full cycles compared to just 400-500 cycles in lead acid. 5) Voltage: Lithium-ion batteries operate at a higher voltage (56-56.7V) resulting in less losses in cables, etc. 6) Environmental Impact: Lithium-ion batteries are a cleaner technology and are safer for the environment. 7) Cost: The true cost of ownership is far less than lead acid when considering life span and performance. 3

You can also manage your climate control system on-site based on the internal temperature of the lithium battery or you can shut down non-prioritised loads. The entire Incell product range is designed around the cylindrical 18650 cell, the de-facto standard for B2B lithium cells and the same technology deployed in today s leading electric vehicle manufacturer. At 3.6 Vpc and 2.2 Ah, the 18650 cell provides exceptional safety advantages unique to the design of cylindrical cells; e.g., a faulty cell is easy to contain (Incell has a patented battery pack for this purpose), effect of a faulty cell is exceptionally small, five layers of safety protection (design safety margin, cell, battery back, BMS and enclosure). 4

Incell understands telecom s unique challenges Our telecom expertise allows us to identify and solve the most critical power challenges faced in telecom today. Current Limiting Device: Rectifiers can generate high charging current depending on site conditions. In this situation, most lithium batteries either shut-off or must actively interact with the rectifier controller, resulting in a high risk of failure. Incell s patent pending Current Limiting Device (CLD) enables our lithium batteries to be charged at any current without shutting down the battery module. Automatic Reconnect: Low voltage battery disconnection (LVBD) is a reality in telecom applications. Common lithium batteries require manual reconnection on site even after a day or a week, adding unnecessary site visits. Incell SLB features automatic reconnect for up to three months. As demands increase, the network of the future needs to be much smarter. So does batteries. Anti-theft: Theft of lead-acid batteries is common in many parts of the world. The reasons include: scrap metal value, private usage or re-sale back into the telecom infrastructure. With Incell s 48V modules the first two reasons are eliminated. To address the last issue, Incell has developed a patent pending anti-theft feature for its SLB battery which completely disables the battery module if removed from the installation. Network availability vs. cost Incell s mission is to increase network availability cost effectively and with minimal impact to the environment. Having a power back-up on site is a good start, but it needs to be the right solution and at the right cost. SLB range Incell s Smart Lithium Battery range is well proven with several hundred thousand modules in operation around the globe. The SLB modules are primarily using 18650 cells from Samsung SDI of NMC or NCA type, but other chemistries can be used upon request.
