FOREWORD This manual is intended for sound-, lighting- and rigging technicians. The set-up and operation of the ALC Truss tower systems demands reading and complete understanding of the instruction manual. It gives practical directives how to handle the ALC Truss products in general in a safe and efficient way because safety is and has to get, in our eyes, the highest priority in the event sector. Only by carefully following the step-by-step actions during preparation, set-up and operation of the tower system, a safe and successful production can be guaranteed. Our intentions are to support productions of the highest quality by developing products of the highest quality to be handled by technicians of the highest quality. INSTALLATION a) Package A complete 13,5m high goalpost tower system consists of 6 packages of merely standard ALC Truss products. Each package is transported by means of a dolly system, which clicks on the stacked truss sections. The dollies contain the necessary pins and hammers to combine the trussing sections into various applications, as the S-60-GP 2 ton goalpost tower system. The system is designed to take a minimum of transport space: in a standard truck the complete package takes approx. 3 m² of loading surface (2,45m high). b) Handling and set-up time The tower systems are very easy to set-up by two persons, and will only take about one hour of work, once familiar with the products. The special design of the connection system and its tools, result in an efficient and fast set-up. c) Contents of package d) Chain hoists CODE DESCRIPTION # S-60-24 Stackable triangle truss - 60cm x 60cm - 2,4m section 9 S-60-15 Stackable triangle truss - 60cm x 60cm - 1,5m section 8 S-60-TP Truss Pin including safety system 113 S-60-HM HaMmer / Drive-out pin 6 S-60-DL DoLly 12 S-60-6W 6-Way corner block 4 S-60-TB Tower Base truss section 2,4m 2 S-60-GT Goalpost Tower top truss section 2,4m 1 S-60-TT Tower Top including 2 wheels / 2 truss pins 1 S-60-OR OutRigger spindle holder 8 S-60-SP SPindle 8 S-60-CL CantiLever tool including wheel (+M16) 2 S-60-ST STabilizer 2,4m 6 S-60-CC Cantilever Connection bar 1 A-ST-0,5 STeel 1 Ton / 0,5m 2 The set-up of the S-60-GP demands the use of two standard electric chain hoists with a capacity of 1 ton. These hoists, with minimum chain lengths of 20m, must be conform with the 98/37/EC directives, the specific national regulations for lifting equipments and maintenance procedures. (for extra safety precautions in terms of rigging, see p.16) The chain hoists are not included in the package. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 3/20

EQUIPMENT HANDLING DO S V DON T S X Use the right side of the hammer (S-60-HM) to connect the truss elements. Always assemble from the in- to the outside of a truss. Always use 2 hammers in order to drive out a pin. PIN SAFETY PROCEDURE When connecting two truss elements by a truss pin, make sure the cable (with the safety at the end) is perpendicular to the truss length. This makes the connection of the safety to the pin easier, since the cable length itself is kept at a minimum. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 4/20

In order to separate the truss sections from a package of maximum 5 sections of the same length, first make sure the package is standing upright with its fork-connections pointing downwards. Handling is most easy by two persons, who lift the first section slightly, and then move it out of the package starting at the bottom. The inverse procedure is used for stacking truss sections of the same length. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 5/20

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Please take notice of following safety instructions in order to assure a safe preparation, set-up and operation of the S-60-GP tower system: Always wear the appropriate clothing before handling the tower system: We advise you to wear safety-gloves, -shoes and helmet, which are able to provide you a basic protection against possible occurring injuries. The lifting of persons is prohibited, as well as the climbing of persons on the structure. The only persons allowed to climb the mast or structure are those in charge of the loading and its fixation to the mast, or other actions in terms of the positioning of the loading equipment. This manual states clearly what the possibilities are of the tower system and how they should be handled. No other actions or applications than mentioned in this manual are allowed, since they may result in an unsafe situation of which personal or property damage can result. The installation of the tower system must be executed by two persons in a good physical condition (who are not under influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other psychedelic products). While installing the tower, always keep your focus on the product, in order to give absolute priority to safety (mobiles turned off, ). Never leave the tower system unguarded while setting it up. So once the set-up has started, the two persons involved should finish the actions till the tower system is ready for lifting the loading, without leaving the structure. After each installation and operation of the S-60-GP tower system, each part of the total structure must be inspected on possible damages. In any case, the ALC Truss Engineering company does not take responsibility in any way for any of your actions during the handling, like preparation, set-up, operation and the lowering and packing of the tower system. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 6/20

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF SETUP Given the above safety instructions, make sure the following both general as environmental conditions are guaranteed: As clearly shown on the product label and noted further in the set-up manual, the allowable vertical load is strictly limited to 2 tons. When used outdoors, wind speeds up to 75 km/h (8 Beaufort 20 m/s) are allowed taking into account following limits to the load dimensions: Max. horizontal projected surfaces: Front: 9,0m² Front horiz. Side: 4,0m² Proj. surf. Attention: These max. surfaces count only if the lifting equipment weighs at least 1600kg. If the loading weight is less heavy, the max. projection surfaces are half of the values mentioned above. When operating, wind speeds up to 75 km/h (equals 8 Beaufort 20 m/s) are allowed to guarantee a safe and stable construction. Once wind speeds exceed this value, the load must be brought down, just touching the horizontal truss section at the bottom, in order to keep the stability of the system guaranteed. The load can then be put on the horizontal S-60-24 truss that connects the 2 masts at the bottom, keeping a minimal tension on the hoist in order to keep the loading stable on the truss. In this way additional ballast is created on the basis of the structure, to ensure a safe and stable situation when wind speeds exceed the max. operation value.during the erection of the tower, at the point where the mast is brought in a vertical position, as well as the lifting of the actual loading equipment, wind speeds may not exceed 5 Beaufort (40 km/h - 11 m/s)! Specific demands in terms of underground/soil surface structure and pressure capacity are to be regarded: When used indoors, wind forces are to be neglected and result in a maximal reaction force in the points of support of 700 kg (15x15 cm² spindle-surface). For outdoor use, the maximal reaction force in the supports is 1800 kg. Special precautions should be taken for example when setting the tower up on sandy undergrounds. The direct local ground pressure should then be divided through for example (metal) distribution plates under the structure feet. Be aware that when setting up the tower system, you need at least a rectangular building area of about 4,5m wide and 17m long. During set-up, make sure this space does not block any important passages or so. Once upright, the tower basis takes about 34m² (4,5m x 7,5m) of space. It is advisable to restrict an additional area of 20m² around the tower, for example by using fences. While preparing and setting up the tower system, make sure only people involved with its set-up are allowed in the neighbourhood of the tower. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 7/20

SET-UP The complete 13,5m high goalpost system is to be transported in a total of 6 packages. Truck space is brought to a minimum and takes less than 4 m². The click-on dolly systems contain the necessary pins and hammers in order to (dis)assemble the structure, given the above notices concerning the equipment handling and following the step-by-step setup procedure below. Setup is easy and fast by two persons and will take appr. 60min once familiar with the system. S-60-24 S-60-SP S-60-OR S-60-6W PUBLIC By clicking the dolly s on the trussing, you can easily take out the truss pins for the further assembly of the tower. Start by disassembling the 6 packages. The basis of the tower consists of a H-shaped trussing construction. The orientation of the S-60-6W is of high importance. The one open side of the corner block must point upwards. The triangle formed by the 3 lugs on top points backwards, away from the public. Fit a 2,4m section between the corner blocks. Complete the basis by adding 2 times a S-60-15 and an S-60-OR (with an S-60-SP spindle) on the rear and front of each corner block. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 8/20

The total basis can now be leveled accurately by adjusting the 4 S-60-SP spindles on the outside of the structure (leave the 4 inner spindles unscrewed). If you don t have a proper leveling tool, you can also use a S-60-ST stabilizer. Make sure each spindle is under tension once the basis is properly leveled. The mast can now be fixed, starting with the S- 60-TB tower base. Only attach the 2 front pins between the tower base and the corner block. If you put them vertical, you can easily attach the cantilever systems, consisting of 3 S-60-ST stabilizer tubes and the S-60-CL cantilever tool. Bring the tower bases back horizontal. Continue by adding a MAXIMUM OF 4 extra S- 60-24 sections, to reach the max. height of the goalpost structure. For a lower goalpost version, you can use any combination of ALC trussing sections(s-60-12;- 15 or-24), to reach the required height. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 9/20

Now add one S-60-6w corner block on each mast end. The corner blocks need to have the same orientation as the ones on the basis (once the goalpost is erected). Between the two 6way corner blocks, place the S-60-GT goal top 2,4m section. There is only 1 orientation possible (apex down). The basis will lift itself at the rear end, because of the self-weight of the mast. This is not a problem. The S-60-TT tower top can now be added to the goal top section. Therefore, first attach the upper pin, and let the tower top rest in an appr. 45 angle to the ground. 2 persons then lift the double mast, one person on each side of the mast end, in order to bring the tower top vertical and to attach the 2 pins left. Now attach each of the two (1 ton electric) chain hoists to the structure as following: Each hoist is connected to the rear S-60-OR outrigger by using a 0,5m (1 ton) steel cable. Use a trussing pin to do so. The chain of one hoist first passes the cantilever tool (resting on the white wheel), and is attached to the second hole (starting from the ground) on the tower top section. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 10/20

The chain of the second hoist also passes the cantilever tool, and reaches the second tower top hole, counting from above. ATTENTION: The second chain crosses the first one before it is attached to the tower top, in order to create a symmetrical lifting situation. If the chains are not crossed, this might result in a serious torsion of the mast, when trying to erect the goalpost. This might result in serious damage of the system, thus an unsafe situation. To secure the chain hoist cables to the cantilever systems and in order to keep those cantilever systems in the right position, fit the S-60-CC cantilever connector (in its largest version) between the 2 cantilever tools. Secure the connector by using 2 safety clips. Bring equal tension on both chain hoists, in order to prepare the goalpost structure for erection. By further tensioning the 2 chains simultaneously, the goalpost mast will gently rotate to its vertical position. ATTENTION: Always put equal tension on each hoist. Never use the chain hoists separately to erect the mast. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 11/20

1 2 2 While one person is controlling the chain hoists, the other can guide the goalpost mast by handling the cantilever connector (1). He can slow-down the rotation of the mast, in order to gently bring it in its vertical position. Don t forget to attach the 2 missing pins, one on each mast (2). ATTENTION: Once the goalpost mast starts to lift, never interrupt the erection process, always keep on going till the mast is in a vertical position. Remove the cantilever connector from its connection points. Release the chain hoists from their attachment to the rear outriggers, and bring them into a free position. Disassemble the 2 cantilever systems. Re-use 4 of the 6 stabilizer tubes (S-60- ST), by placing them at the front and rear of each mast. Connect them via 2 pins to the tower base section (S-60-TB) on one side, and the closest outrigger on the other side. ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 12/20

Strap Strap The stabilizers should fit perfectly, if the basis (in the beginning of the setup) is properly leveled. If not, you can use a strap to force the mast to the right direction (front or rear). S-60-GP goalpost system ready to use ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 13/20

The goalpost structure is now ready to lift your equipment. Please take notice of following instruction: A schematic view of the tower top : 40 cm 40 cm FRONT REAR 1 ton 1 ton 127 cm As shown on the view, the only available rigging points are the inner holes on the tower top. NEVER use the holes on the outside of the tower top as rigging points! Extreme condition: If the tension of one of the hoists is completely released, all the weight (max. 2000kg) comes to either the front or rear of the tower top. This is not a problem. But here again: NEVER use the holes on the outside of the tower top as rigging points! 40 cm 40 cm FRONT REAR 2 tons ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 14/20

CHECKLIST FOR SAFE USE The goalpost system is now ready for operation, but please take your time first to run through this checklist, in order to guarantee the safety and stability of the construction. Check if All the safety-clips secure a trussing pin, so no single pin can create an unsafe connection. Each of the 8 spindles is brought under pressure by turning the handle against the outrigger S-60-OR. The 4 stabilizers are all in place The mast is in a vertical position, so no inclination in any direction is allowed. You can apply the leveling method as explained in the set-up procedure. Click all empty dollies on the S-60-15 sections as explained. Also check your remaining parts, which should be: Code Description # S-60-DL dolly systems 12 S-60-HM hammer 6 S-60-CL cantilever tool 2 S-60-TP truss pin 6 S-60-CC Cantil.conn. 1 A-ST-0,5 0,5m steel cable 2 ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 15/20

OPERATION The S-60-GP goalpost tower system is now ready to lift your equipment hereby you will find some pictures of recent applications.. A standard application of the goalpost at its maximum height of 13,5m ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 16/20

EXTRA SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Different safety regulations throughout the countries sometimes result in the need for extra safety precautions, especially when the system is used for lifting equipment above or near persons. Hereby you will find some guidelines to fulfill these demands: Severe safety precautions sometimes state that the lifting equipment should be able to lift the double of the loading. So when using two standard 1 ton electric chain hoists, loads up to 1000kg can be lifted without any problems. When loads exceed 1000kg - and still using the two 1 ton chain hoists - an additional safety, like the fixation of an extra steel cable or safety sling between the structure and the load, is required. The tower system gives easy possibilities to realize this: Therefore use an additional pin to fix the safety-line to the spare hole at the S-60-TT tower top piece, like shown below. Front Rear 1 Ton 1 Ton Safety-line LOAD ALC Truss S-60-GP Goalpost system Manual Version 1.2 17/20

INVERSE PROCEDURE In order to bring down your goalpost system, follow the steps above in the opposite direction. Or follow the summarized instructions below Remove the stabilizers and rebuild the cantilever systems. Attach the hoists to the rear outriggers via the 0,5m steel cables. DON T FORGET TO CROSS THE CHAINS!!! Re-connect the cantilever connector to secure the chains. Bring the hoists on tension. Remove the rear pin on each tower base. Lower the mast.
