Running your CarSounds shark aquarium car with a Lionel transformer 1 2 Note! 3 Place your CarSounds shark aquarium car on Lionel or Lionel-compatible O gauge track. Direction does not matter for your shark aquarium car except in Command Control mode (for front & rear coupler identification). Power up your CarSounds shark aquarium car with your transformer. Your CarSounds shark aquarium car is designed to operate on 7-18 volts alternating current. Virtually all Lionel and Lionel-compatible alternating-current transformers are suitable; we recommend the TrainMaster Command model railroad control system. Do not power your CarSounds shark aquarium car with direct current (DC). Damage to sensitive electronic components may occur. When you first power up your track, the CarSounds shark aquarium car will wait between 3 and 8 seconds as it listens for digital language from the TrainMaster Command Base (available separately). When it s determined that it s on a conventional (non-command) railroad, CarSounds will start up, and the light panel will illuminate. The sharks will be in neutral. To start the sharks in motion, press the direction button on your transformer or CAB-1. This occurs when you power up your shark car for the first time. Thereafter, motion will start immediately with power applied to the track. Move em out! Get your CarSounds shark aquarium car moving, place it somewhere within the train consist. Track voltage controls the speed of the sharks. A minimum voltage of 5-7 vac is required to start the sharks swimming. Car motion activates the surf guitar song we call The Shark s Lament, composed for this product by one of our friends in northern California. If car motion is slow and steady, the song will continue indefinitely. If you speed up the car motion, the tempo of the song will increase, and it will culminate with a special announcement from Val, the sharks trainer and constant companion. Random shark sounds and water rippling sounds will be heard throughout operation. Horn/Whistle activation will override the car s motion sensor, and The Shark s Lament will play at full tempo as long as the button is held. Notes on CarSounds Use the volume control knob on the underside of the CarSounds shark aquarium car to adjust sound output. (See page 9 for its location.) For even more fantastic Railsounds effects, operate in the TrainMaster Command environment. Note! There are no sound features which will respond to a bell control 3

Using your CarSounds shark aquarium car s ElectroCouplers in the non-command environment To use your CarSounds shark aquarium car s ElectroCouplers in the non- Command environment, you must first couple a piece of rolling stock equipped with Lionel magnetic couplers directly to your Magnetic coupler on the rolling stock coupled to your CarSounds shark aquarium car Remotecontrol track section CarSounds shark aquarium. The magnetic coupler on the rolling stock will then react to the magnetic field generated by a Lionel remote-control track section (available separately). Place your rolling stock s coupler trigger disc over the central coil of a remote-control track section and press uncouple on the controller. The magnetic field pulls the disc downward, and the coupler opens. Note! Your CarSound shark aquarium ElectroCouplers will NOT open manually or by using a remotecontrol track section Your CarSounds shark aquarium car s ElectroCoupler in the TrainMaster Command environment Your Lionel CarSounds shark aquarium car is equipped with front and rear Electrocouplers that respond to the COUPLER F (front) and COUPLER R (rear) button on your CAB-1 remote when operated in the Trainmaster Command environment. Simply press either button on your CAB-1 remote, and that coupler opens. Your CarSounds shark Note! aquarium ElectroCouplers are NOT designed to be opened manually. Speed Control using your shark aquarium car s Odyssey System 4 To establish a speed control setting for your sharks, use the following steps. 1. Set the track voltage to the desired speed. 2. Hold the Horn/Whistle button down, and increase the voltage by 3 volts minimum. (The song will play, and you will see the sharks momentarily speed up, then return to your set speed.) 3. Release the Horn/Whistle button. The sharks will stay at this speed unless voltage is turned below the set level. Speed control settings are retained indefinitely until you deactivate this feature. 4. To deactivate speed control, reduce the voltage by 3 volts minimum while holding the Horn/Whistle button. (You may need to increase the track voltage before performing this step if you are operating below 10 volts.)

The Command control environment Lionel TrainMaster Command is the gives you the power to operate multiple advanced model railroad control system Command-equipped locomotives on the from Lionel. Your CarSounds shark aquarium same track, at the same time. car is equipped with the Lionel R2LC for To operate in Command, you need shark swimming speed, coil coupler, and a Command Base and a CAB-1 lighting control, and access to additional remote. Find them both at your authorized Railsounds features. TrainMaster Command Lionel retailer. 1 2 3 Place your CarSounds shark aquarium car on Lionel or Lionel compatible O gauge track. Make sure track power is OFF before placing your CarSounds shark aquarium car on the track. Make sure your Lionel Command Base is ON and its communications wire is connected to the COMMON post on your Lionel transformer or the U post on any of your installed PowerMasters. Once positioned on the track, increase track voltage to FULL (on PowerMaster, slide the CMD/CONV switch to CMD). Address your CarSounds shark aquarium car using CAB-1. Press ENG and 1 on the numeric keypad of your CAB-1 remote. This command is sent by CAB-1 to the Command Base, which then translates your command into digital code. That code is sent around your railroad s outside rails in the form of a digital halo. All Command-equipped Lionels listen to this digital communication, but they do not respond until they hear their individual ID number in this case, 1. The digital language of TrainMaster Command and not track power controls the actions of Command-equipped Lionels. Track power is simply like gasoline in the tank of your car it gives you the power to go places, but it doesn t tell you where to go or how fast to get there. All Command-equipped Lionels come factory-programmed with an ID# of 1. To change the ID# of your CarSounds shark aquarium car (equipped with an R2LC, designed to control coil couplers, motor speed, and Railsounds features), see page 9. Move em out! Throttle up using your CAB-1. The CarSounds will start, and the light will illuminate. The sharks will automatically start to swim around your car. The throttle can be used to slow or speed up the sharks, but they will not come to a complete stop until power is turned off (the throttle has only a limited range of speed control). Your CarSounds shark aquarium car will respond to your every command. Read on. 5

Turn the knob left or right to adjust the volume to your liking. For quick remote-control of volume below the master setting like muting use the CAB-1 numeric keypad s volume control. Pressing AUX1 and then 4 on the numeric keypad lowers overall RailSounds output. 8

Assigning your CarSounds shark aquarium car a new ID# Assign a new I D# to your Example R2LC-equipped CarSounds shark aquarium car Set the CarSounds shark aquarium car reverse unit control switch to PROGRAM (PGM) Command Base ON Place the CarSounds shark aquarium car on track PowerMasters set to CMD or traditional power supplies on full Turn track power on (PowerMasters): Press BOOST Program the CarSounds shark aquarium car with a new ID#: Press ENG Press a number you choose (the ID#) As your fleet of Command-equipped Lionels grows, give your CarSounds shark aquarium car its own ID#. Choose from any between 1 and 99. Slide the CarSounds shark aquarium car reverse unit control switch to PROGRAM (PGM). Turn the Command Base On and place the CarSounds shark aquarium car on track. Then, power up. Using CAB-1, press ENG, the locomotive ID#, then press the SET button located under CAB-1 s removable panel. Hear the CarSounds shark aquarium CarSounds start up; that s your signal that the programming has been accepted. Power down track voltage. Leave car on track for 10 seconds before moving control switch back to RUN position. Slide the control switch to RUN. Your CarSounds shark aquarium car is now programmed to respond to the number you selected. Press SET Set reverse unit control switch to RUN Your CarSounds shark aquarium car remembers its ID# forever; change it any time with these steps We recommend that you choose an easy to remember ID# for your shark aquarium. Some possibilities are part of the road number, your age, any two digit number that is not used by another engine. If you like, write the number on a small piece of tape and put this on the bottom of the frame to aid in remembering. Set the CarSounds shark aquarium s reverse unit program switch to PROGRAM. When you ve finished programming the ID#, set the switch to RUN. Rear of shark aquarium car 9 CarSounds shark aquarium car s volume knob. CarSounds shark aquarium car s R2LC switch

Advanced TrainMaster Command operations Building TRAINS To experience the most from your Lionel CarSounds shark aquarium, you should program it as part of a TRAIN so your aquarium will work together with a RailSounds equipped engine. In the TrainMaster Command system, TRAINS are addressed using the TR button on CAB-1. When you build TRAINS with TrainMaster Command, several Command equipped cars or engines are grouped under a single TR ID#. TRAIN building should be attempted only after you ve mastered ordinary TrainMaster Command operations. Position your train on the track as you intend to run it. (Remember rear of your aquarium car is the end with the brakewheel). Select a TRAIN number you will use for programming. Because CAB-1 s TR button also means TRACK for PowerMaster control, select a TRAIN (TR) ID# that is NOT a number identifying PowerMaster TRACKs. For example, if you re using four PowerMasters and have named their TRACKs 1,2,3, and 4, choose a number between 5 and 9 for your TRAIN ID#. Finally, make certain the locomotive s and CarSounds shark aquarium s direction switch is set to RUN. Example Build a Train # (you select) using engine numbers you assigned. All ENGINES reverse unit control switches set to RUN Position your train on the track as you intend to run it. Front locomotive should be positioned in the forward direction (headlight in front); aquarium car should be positioned within consist, with brake wheel towards the rear of train. In Train # (you select), assign the engine using the F (front) button: Press TR Press? (the train number you select) Press?? (the engine number you assigned it) Press F Press SET Hear the horn/whistle blow RailSounds engine CarSounds shark aquarium car 10 Note! Wrong ENTRIES. If you press a wrong button while building a train, start over with that particular locomotive assignment at the TR command; the assignment isn t sent until you press SET.

Advanced TrainMaster Command operations Building TRAINS Note! It s still an ENGINE. Whenever an ENGINE is in a TRAIN, you can still individually address it (using its ENG ID#) to adjust lighting, open individual couplers, and tune performance. Using this method or programming results in no music during horn blasts, and prevents the override to the motion sensor. (The music will only respond to motion.) Now all engines respond together when you address them with their train number. If an engine is out of sync after a TR reset, read lash-up troubleshooting on page 26 of your Trainmaster Instruction Manual Assigning the CarSounds shark aquarium car Press TR Press? (the train number you selected) Press?? (the engine number you assigned it) Press SET Reset the direction of the lash-up Press TR Press? (the train number you select) Press AUX1 Press 0 This is only one programming example. Other programming options can also be selected to suit your desired operation. Note: The light panels in your CarSounds shark aquarium car are rated for a long life, and should never require replacement. If replacement is necessary, see page 12 for service information.
