ASSEMBLY AND INSTRUCTIONS FRANKE MINERVA 3-IN-1 KETTLE TAP WATER FILTER HOUSING KIT Retain for reference NB: For use only with Franke Minerva Kettle Tap
Introduction Before you begin Before attempting to install the ABS Water Filter Housing refer to the main Kettle Tap installation guide. Commence the filter installation from step 3 of the guide. Minimum Working Pressure 1.5 bar/23psi If the water pressure is above 5 bar/75psi, measured at a low demand period (mid-morning, mid- afternoon or late evening) it will be necessary to install a suitable pressure reducing valve upstream of the filter. Maintenance The recommended filter change cycle is 6 months. Use only genuine Franke FilterFlow cartridges to support your warranty. The filter housing will require no routine maintenance apart from occasional lubrication of the rubber sealing ring when the cartridge is changed. Important note: A WRAS approve silicone grease must be used for this purpose. Do not under any circumstances use alternative greases or lubricants as they will degrade the plastic material and cause it to fail. Small tubes of WRAS approved silicon grease are available at www.frankefilterflow.co.uk Important Information relating to the plastic housing. Plastic is susceptible to UV light degradation and may become brittle over time. As a precaution the filter housing should be replaced every 10 years. Do not under any circumstances: allow the housing to come in to contact with solvents, household cleaners and sprays or a naked flame. Installation Refer to the diagrams and the Minerva Kettle Tap installation guide. Option 1 the preferred configuration where both the sink tap and the heating tank are isolated. Option 2 the alternative configuration, where only the heating tank is isolated. Check the direction of the water flow. The housing is set up for the water to flow from the left to right; there is an arrow moulded in the top of the cap indicating the direction of flow. If the water is required to flow from right to left remove the wall bracket, turn it through 180 degrees and refit it. Install the 15mm stop valve provided with the filter kit. (note: the 15mm compression tee in the diagram is not provided with the kit). Determine a convenient position to install the filter housing. Mark the positions for the two screws and screw them into the cabinet leaving the heads just proud. Position the bracket with the housing on the two screws. Important note: to avoid potential water leaks the filter housing must be rigidly secured so that the pipework is not stressed when unscrewing the sump for subsequent cartridge changes. Remove the new filter cartridge from its packaging. Refer to the cartridge installation instructions and install the new cartridge. Turn on the water supply and check the system carefully for leaks. Your filter is now ready for use. Sensible precautions If you are planning to leave the premises for an extended period it is a sensible precaution to turn off both the electricity supply to the boiler and the water supply to the filter.
Installation diagrams Service / Maintenance Apart from the scheduled filter cartridge replacement, the filter unit will require very little routine maintenance, beyond occasional lubrication of the housing O Seal. Important: use only WRAS approved silicon grease for this purpose an approved grease is available to purchase from Franke FilterFlow; visit www.frankefilterflow.co.uk or contact customer service on 0808 165 0008. Replacement housing O Seals (9.06231) are also avaliable from Franke FilterFlow.
Changing the cartridge in your Minerva Kettle Tap Cartridge Replacement Cycle The recommended fi lter cartridge change cycle is 6 months Important: The period between cartridge replacements is not guaranteed; it is an estimate based on fi ltering mains water of average quality. Please bear in mind that water quality varies from locality to locality and situation to situation. In areas with higher than average turbidity (particle contamination) more frequent cartridge changes may be necessary. Preparation No special tools are required for this operation. All you will need is a suitable receptacle to catch any spillage and a cloth or a sponge handy. A rubber glove is provided to hold the wet cartridge. Lubricating the rubber seals For ease of assembly we recommend that a fi lm of silicone grease is applied to the fi lter housing O Seal, at least every other cartridge change, to maintain the smooth operation of the unit. Important note Only a WRAS approved silicon lubricant should be used for this purpose. Small tubes of a WRAS approved silicon grease can be purchased from Franke FilterFlow at www.frankefilterflow.co.uk Disposing of the Spent Cartridge You may dispose of the cartridge in your normal household waste. The ceramic component of the cartridge is biodegradable. You are welcome to return either the plastic parts or the complete cartridge to Franke FilterFlow for recycling. Should you decide to return the cartridge please allow it to dry naturally and return it in the original packaging. Most Important! - before you start: switch off the mains electricity supply to the boiler. 1. Locate the shut-off valve and turn off the mains water supply to the filter housing. 2.Turn the kettle tap boiling water handle to the ON position for a few seconds to release the pressure in the system. Important note. If the pressure is not released it will not be possible to unscrew the filter housing sump from the head. 3. Place a bowl under the filter housing. Grip the sump firmly and turn it firmly to the left to break the seal. Lower the sump carefully sufficient to expose enough of the cartridge to grip it the fingers of your free hand 4. Unscrew the filter cartridge until it comes free. Carefully remove the sump with the cartridge inside. Remove the cartridge and discard the water in the sump. Dispose of the spent cartridge. 5. Reverse the removal procedure: install the new cartridge, taking care not to over-tighten it, and refit the sump. 6. Tighten the sump firmly sufficient to make a water tight seal. 7. Turn the water supply on and check the system carefully for leaks. Turn on the electricity supply to the boiler.
