You can expect from FOX TrimAway: lower first cost, lower operative cost and less noise. Typical Applications Paper, film and foil trim/waste Textiles and non-wovens Chopped, granulated and pelletized material Motive Air from Regenerative Blower Principle of Operation Suction To Waste Collection System Unique Approach to Trim-Removal SYSTEM DESIGN The FOX TrimAway System uses a regenerative blower to generate a motive air stream at significantly higher pressures than that of a conventional blower. A unique venturi design is used to convert this output into the high velocity required for efficient material transport. This combination yields outstanding performance with typically 50% in energy savings over axial blower type systems. MODULAR COMPONENTS As with all CAC systems and accessories, by using modular components the FOX TrimAway System can be matched to specific requirements of each individual customer specifications by offering a complete range of regenerative blowers (1 to 15 horsepower). These components are then matched by application engineers to the specific requirements of each application. FEATURES Venturi Construction Material: Aluminum, PTFE lining available. Unique design: Motive flow rate may be adjusted to optimize performance. Regenerative Blower Construction Mounting base, impeller and housing manufactured of aluminum allow for maximum strength, reduced weight and increased corrosion resistance. Totally enclosed, fan-cooled motor with thermal overload protection. Direct drive motor/ blower combination dynamically balanced for reliability. Ducting Plastic, metal and PTFE-lined ducting is available. Complete The Fox TrimAway System is supplied with all necessary intake and discharge ducting and fittings to make a ready-forinstallation system. Quiet Noise levels well below conventional systems. Silencing mufflers are not required to meet OSHA standards. Energy Efficient Power consumption reduced in half: Only one HP is required for most waste removal applications. Compact Typical venturi/blower combination occupies approximately one cubic foot Versatile Mounting Compact venturi may be mounted at point of use or integrally with blower. FOX PG. 1

THE FOX TRIMAWAY SYSTEM ELIMINATES TRADITIONAL MATRIX REMOVAL DILEMMAS Typical Applications Tag & Label Matrix Narrow Web Press Matrix PICTURE Traditionally waste matrix is wound onto a rewind shaft which often causes limitations and drawbacks such as costly down time and interrupted production runs. During production runs the operator must stop the presses periodically to remove the waste matrix roll and install an empty core. The result is lost press time, operator time and waste. As matrix rewind rolls become larger tensions increases, often causing breaks in the matrix, especially when running lightweight stocks. Often the operator must stop the press in order to re-thread the waste matrix rewind shaft. Unique Approach to Matrix Removal The FOX system offers these solutions to Matrix Removal Dilemmas: By continuously conveying matrix, presses can be run virtually non-stop excepting roll-stock changes. By producing relatively constant tension on the matrix costly and annoying breaks are avoided. This allows operators to run at increased web speeds. Operators can easily adjust the tension producing vacuum during production runs. The FOX model FX2-700 (5 hp) has interior surfaces which are specially coated with a high-release TFE lining which prevents pressure-sensitive materials from adhering. Compact modular components make installation of all of the FOX systems simple. The FX2 venturi can be mounted quickly to the matrix rewind shaft by means of a special quick-release bracket. This bracket fits onto a 3" core, preventing damage to the shaft. The entire assembly then slides onto the shaft, is chucked up and the venturi is set at the proper angle for matrix entry with the shaft rotation locked down. The 4" discharge hose is connected to the venturi discharge. The 2" motive air line from the blower is connected to the venturi motive inlet. The blower can be located up to 20 feet from the venturi or, if space permits, directly on top of the press. Removal of the system requires less than a minute if access to the rewind shaft becomes necessary. The Model MR2-700 Matrix Removal System is capable of handling a.015" thick x 12" wide web at speeds in excess of 700 fpm. The amount of diecut or open area in the matrix will determine the maximum capabilities of the system. FOX PG. 2

A QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE FOX TRIMAWAY COMPONENTS & SYSTEM PLAN YOUR SYSTEM LAYOUT Take a few minutes to plan your system completely to determine where you will mount the various components, as you may want to purchase or fabricate special brackets, hold downs, etc. A rough sketch of you system layout will be helpful and will eliminate the possibility of errors when ordering hose lengths, etc. THE BLOWER We recommend the blower be wired by a licensed electrician or an experienced plant mechanic. You will need an appropriate sized motor starter if you have a 3-phase blower. The diagram on the blower motor plate describes wiring differences for low or high voltage. The motor blades turn in the proper direction, shown by the directional arrows imprinted on blower, or by looking into the backside of the cooling fan and checking for clockwise rotation. THE BLOWER/VENTURI CONNECTION The blower output adapter is screwed into the out port of the blower. The motive air hose is cut for the appropriate distance between blower and venturi. Hose clamps are attached to the blower output adapter and venturi motive air inlet as shown. There will now be suction at the venturi inlet and pressure from the discharge end. No, or very little, suction/pressure, is a sign of improper installation. The venturi is then placed in a position which affords the smoothest, straightest path from the trim pick-up point. INTAKE HOSE CONNECTION The distance from outermost trim points to centerline should by measured to the point where "y" is located. The two intake hose lengths should be kept as short as possible without causing severe bends for maximum suction/velocity. The trim pick-up nozzles are attached to the inlet hoses, securing with hose clamps. The opposite ends are connected to the "y", the remaining intake hose is cut for connection between the third leg of the "y" and the venturi suction inlet. The "y" is butt up to the venturi inlet and a short piece of hose with two clamps are used to seal the connection. DISCHARGE HOSE CONNECTION The discharge hose is slipped over the discharge end of the venturi and secured with a hose clamp. The discharge hose connection point is routed to collection point, avoiding sharp bends as much as possible. COLLECTION CONTAINERS Collection container should allow for the free discharge of air and material. If it does not allow adequate air ventilation or is designed so that the material can build up to the discharge line, back pressure will affect the performance of the system. SPECIAL TIPS For maximum performance, keep all hose lengths to a minimum. Any bends should have a gentle, sweeping radius. The pick-up nozzle should be located as close as possible to the material pick-up point. Over tightening of the high-torque hose clamps will crimp the metal hose causing air leakage. The blower, motive air hose and venturi may become hot to the touch. This is normal and these components are designed to withstand high temperatures.
