2002-05 ENGINE Exhaust Systems - Repair Instructions - Cooper (1.6L) R50/W10 EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPLETE 18 21 051 REPLACING ALL EXHAUST SUSPENSION ELEMENTS WARNING: Danger of burning and other injuries! These tasks should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down! Necessary Preliminary Tasks: Remove rear muffler or exhaust system. Refer to 18 12 030 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR MUFFLER (W10) Release screws (1) and remove reinforcement plate. Remove rubber mount (2) from exhaust pipe and replace. Tightening torque, refer to 18 00 4AZ in EXHAUST SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10.

REPLACING MOUNTING BRACKET FOR VIBRATION ABSORBER ON EXHAUST SYSTEM NOTE: Only MINI ONE and MINI COOPER up to 10/2001. Necessary Preliminary Tasks: Remove reinforcement plate for exhaust system. Refer to 18 21 051 REPLACING ALL EXHAUST SUSPENSION ELEMENTS.
Remove vibration absorber on exhaust system. Refer to 18 10 070 REPLACING VIBRATION ABSORBER ON EXHAUST SYSTEM AT REAR (W10). Make a mark (1) on the exhaust system before removing the mounting bracket. Mount upper bracket. Fig. 3: Identifying Mark On Exhaust System Mount lower bracket (1) on upper bracket (2) and fit screw (3). Align weld hole (4) in upper bracket with mark on exhaust pipe. Tightening torque, refer to 18 00 6AZ in EXHAUST SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10.

Remove the exhaust system with the assistance of a second person.

Remove bracket from rear muffler. Tightening torque, refer to 18 00 1AZ in EXHAUST SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10.

Tightening torque, refer to 18 00 3AZ in EXHAUST SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10. Replacement only: Replace all exhaust suspension elements. Refer to 18 21 051 REPLACING ALL EXHAUST SUSPENSION ELEMENTS.
