Ameren Illinois Utilities Smart Grid Project Smart Distribution Grid Component Advances the modernization of the distribution system Self-healing circuits Dynamic voltage control Advanced smart distribution equipment Fault location, isolation and service restoration applied at distribution and sub-transmission levels Automatic fault detection and sectionalizing where significant circuit ties are available from different substation sources Integrated Voltage/Var Control via remote control of capacitor banks, voltage regulators and load tap changers Improves power quality and optimization of assets while reducing system losses 9

Ameren Illinois Utilities Smart Grid Project Smart Home Component AIU s Power Smart Pricing Program Expanded incentives and education 5,300 participants in the residential program E-smart Programmable Thermostat Program Accommodates peak load shedding Centralized control 12

Ameren Illinois Utilities Smart Grid Projects Rider mechanism for cost recovery Rider will be used to recover the unfunded part of DOE projects The ICC must first approve proposed projects prior to implementation and cost recovery Return of and on the investments will be part of the Rider mechanism Rider will recover associated incremental expenses Consumer protections included via annual reconciliations and Commission approval process 13
