OREGON INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Formula SAE Sponsorship Package Oregon Institute of Technology 3201 Campus Dr. Klamath Falls, OR 97601 oitracing@gmail.com
History Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers). The first competition was started back in 1978 and was originally called the Mini Indy. The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formulastyle race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds, and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose are both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving. This is an international race, with approximately 80 universities competing from the US and the world. 2010-2011 Results In 2010-2011 the OIT Formula team finished 29 th out of 80 teams overall. This included an 8 th place finish in the premier event, the endurance race. We successfully completed the event without any mechanical failures, and passed the technical inspection without any problems. The Formula SAE team gained recognition from local news station KOTI-Klamath Falls due to their success. 2011-2012 Goals In 2010-2011 the team consisted of 6 individuals, and this year we have a dedicated team of 11 individuals. Our goal this year is to design and build a car weighing less than 500 pounds, and place in the top 15 overall.
