. Importnt informtion (Only for use within the BMW deler orgnistion.) Instlltion time for the electric sun blind pprox. 3.5 hours. The instlltion time my differ depending on the condition of the cr nd the equipment in it. Trget group The trget group for these fitting instructions is stff who hve been trined on BMW crs. Work All servicing, repir, instlltion nd djustment work on crs is conducted on your own responsibility. All work is to be completed using the ltest BMW - Repir instructions, - Circuit digrms, - Service mnuls, - Work instructions, - Dignostics mnuls in rtionl sequence using the prescribed tools (specil tools) nd pursunt to the relevnt helth nd sfety regultions. Instlltion notes If the specified PIN slots re lredy in use, bridges, double crimps or prllel end stops re to be used.to prevent fults, mke sure tht you use the exct instlltion routes in the cr. Under no circumstnces should you use so-clled "Scotchlock connectors" since they my cuse fults in the vehicle's electricl system. The instlltion work is shown for LHD model. For n RHD model, the instlltion is to be completed the opposite wy round. On LHD crs the wiring hrness is to be instlled long the right-hnd side of the cr. On RHD crs the wiring hrness is to be instlled long the left-hnd side of the cr. Keep to the tightening torque vlues for screw connections. The required tightening torque vlues re listed in the prts informtion system (TIS). Ensure tht the cbles re not kinked or dmged when they re instlled in the cr since otherwise, this too my cuse fults which then require gret del of work for their loclistion.the costs incurred s result of this will not be reimbursed by BMW. 2. To retrofit the electric sun blind Notes Refer to the sfety instructions in section. The ccessory instlltion work is bsed on the generl workshop informtion. 2. Preprtion Print out the error memory. Disconnect the bttery. Remove the spekers nd speker shells from the rer window shelf. Remove the rer set. Through-lod fcility only Remove the split rer bckrests. Sloon E46/4 without through-lod fcility only Remove the rer bckrest. Sloon E46/4 only Remove the door sill strips on the pssenger side t the front nd rer. Remove the A pillr trim in the footwell on the pssenger side. Remove the glove box nd disconnect the plug connectors. Coupé E46/2 only Remove the door sill strip on the pssenger side. Remove the A pillr trim in the footwell on the pssenger side. Remove the glove box nd disconnect the plug connectors. 2-4/GB
2.2 To instll the sun blind Fold out folded pge 2-25 A Sloon E46/4 without through-lod fcility only Insert n ngle brcket behind the side section of the bckrest () nd press on the spring for the fstening clip (2) (see mgnified section) using this ngle brcket in the direction indicted by the rrow. At the sme time pull the side section of the bckrest () crefully in the direction indicted by rrow I to relese the fstening clip (2) from the body recess (3). Then pull the side section of the bckrest () in the direction indicted by rrow II out of the fstening ril nd tke it out of the cr. The procedure is the sme for the left-hnd side of the cr. B Coupé E46/2 only Press in the pin (4) in the direction indicted by the rrow until the expnding rivet (5) cn be tken out of the trim (6). Remove the side cover cp (7) from the trim (6) (see mgnified section) nd tke the trim (6) out of the cr.the procedure is the sme for the left-hnd side of the cr. C Coupé E46/2 only Undo the connector (8) (see mgnified section). Insert n ngle brcket behind the side section of the bckrest (9) nd press on the spring for the fstening clip (0) (see mgnified section) using this ngle brcket in the direction indicted by the rrow. At the sme time pull the side section of the bckrest (9) crefully in the direction indicted by rrow I, to relese the fstening clip (0) from the body recess ().Then pull the side section of the bckrest (9) in the direction indicted by rrow II out of the fstening ril nd tke it out of the cr. The procedure is the sme for the left-hnd side of the cr. D Undo the Torx bolts (2) on the set belt mounting (see mgnified section). E Rise the press-studs (3) for securing the rer window shelf using stright slot screwdriver whilst t the sme time levering them out with pir of flt pliers. Ensure tht the cover on the rer window shelf is not dmged s you lever out the press-studs (3). Since it is not possible to void dmging the press-studs (3) themselves during this process, they re to be replced with the new press-studs provided in the prts kit. Crs with through-lod fcility only Remove the trim (4) on the cross member. F Crefully lever the rer light (5) out of the C pillr trim (6) nd then disconnect the plug connector to the rer light (5). Tke the C pillr trim (6) off the C pillr in the direction indicted by the rrow nd then out of the cr. Coupé E46/2 only On the Coupé, before removing the C pillr trim (6), undo the Torx bolt (7) (See mgnified section). The procedure is the sme for the left-hnd side of the cr. G Crefully rise the rer window shelf (8) nd pull the springs (9) for the hedrest ctch mechnism out of the hedrest mountings (20) using pir of flt pliers (see mgnified section). Then pull the hedrests (2) out of the hedrest mountings (20) in the direction indicted by the rrow nd tke them out of the cr. H Lever the trim (22) for the belt perture out of the rer window shelf (23) nd guide it with the set belt (24) through the recess in the rer window shelf. The procedure is the sme for the left-hnd side of the cr. I Crefully rise the rer window shelf (25) whilst t the sme time pulling it out in the direction indicted by the rrow nd tke it out of the cr. J Sloon E46/4 only Cut the recess (dotted line) for the sun blind precisely to the specified dimensions (see mgnified section) out of the rer window shelf using pneumtic sw.the inside edge of the embossed re (26) is used s reference line for the specified dimensions (see mgnified section). If you re unble to cut out the recess precisely the specified dimensions, the fit nd function of the sun blind will be severely hmpered. K Coupé E46/2 only Cut the recess for the sun blind out of the rer window shelf precisely long the inside edge of the embossed re (27) (dotted line) using pneumtic sw. If the recess is not cut precisely long the inside edge of the embossed re (27) (dotted line), the fit nd function of the sun blind will be severely hmpered. L Keep to the following sequence of work to fit the sun blind into the recess in the rer window shelf.. Fit the cut edge (28) of the rer window shelf into the guide ril (2) for the sun blind s fr s it will go (see mgnified section). 2. Press the guide ril (30) in the direction indicted by rrow I nd t the sme time press the cut edge (3) of the rer window shelf in the direction indicted by rrow II into the guide ril (30) for the sun blind. Fit the sun blind into the rer window shelf very crefully since lck of cre cn esily result in permnent crcks or kinking points. Ensure tht the sun blind is fitted into the centre of the recess so tht the end trims cn then be fitted esily t both sides. M Sloon E46/4 only Push the cover (32) upwrds whilst t the sme time pressing the end trim (f) crefully into the recess in the direction indicted by the rrow.then ensure tht the end trim (f) hs engged in the bottom edge of the recess (see mgnified section). N Coupé E46/2 only Push the journl (33) on the end trim (f) between the cut edge of the rer window shelf nd the csing for the sun blind in the direction indicted by rrow I.Then clip the end trim (f) into the recess in the direction indicted by rrow II. 2-6/GB

2.4 To instll the dditionl wiring hrness Fold out folded pge 2-53 A Instll the dditionl wiring hrness () long the stndrd wiring hrness s follows: Connect brnch A to 3-pin plug csing X28 on the sun blind. Connect brnch A2 to joint connector X29 in the joint connector box on fuse holder X006 bove the glove box. Connect brnch A3 to fuse holder X006 bove the glove box. Connect brnch A4 to switch X947 in the instrument pnel holder. Connect brnch A5 to switch X324 for the electric window on the pssenger side. B RHD only Ly brnch A into the C pillr re on the right-hnd side of the cr.then ly the dditionl wiring hrness () from the right-hnd side of the cr to the left-hnd side of the cr. As you do so insert the dditionl wiring hrness () into the cble holders (). C When lying the dditionl wiring hrness () ner the C pillr, guide the dditionl wiring hrness () over the set belt csing (2). Then secure the dditionl wiring hrness () to the stndrd wiring hrness using cble ties (d). This ensures tht the dditionl wiring hrness () does not impede the function of the set belt. LHD only Then ly the dditionl wiring hrness () on the right-hnd side of the cr long the door sill strips to the front towrds the glove box. RHD only Then ly the dditionl wiring hrness () on the left-hnd side of the cr long the door sill strips to the front towrds the glove box. D Push the rer window shelf (3) with fitted sun blind in the direction indicted by the rrow into the grille (4) on the rer screen. Ensure tht s you push it into the grille (4), the rer window shelf (3) does not bend, so s to void permnent crcks or kink points in it. E Secure the sun blind to the body plte below the rer window shelf in the boot using the screws (g). F Connect the 3-pin Bordeux-coloured socket csing A on the dditionl wiring hrness () to 3-pin plug csing (5) X28 on the sun blind. G Connect the joint connector contct A2 on the dditionl wiring hrness (), cble colour brown, to joint connector X29 of the sme colour in the joint connector box (6) on the fuse holder (7). H Connect the blde terminl contct A3 on the dditionl wiring hrness (), cble colour violet/blue, to fuse holder II A47 (8) X006, slot 24.Then fit the 7.5 A fuse link (i) to fuse slot 2. I Mnul trnsmission only Lever the lether boot (9) out of the trim ().Tke the fom cover (0) out of the gershift lever chmber. Undo the screws (2). Tke the trim () out of the centre console nd disconnect the plug connectors. J Automtic trnsmission only Lever the lether boot (3) out of the selector lever trim (4). Lever the selector lever trim (4) out of the trim (5) nd disconnect the plug connectors. Undo the screws (6).Then tke the trim (5) out of the centre console nd disconnect the plug connectors. K Lever the oddments box (7) (with/without cover) out of the instrument pnel holder. Lever out the switch cover (8). L Undo the screws (9) nd pull the holder (20) off the instrument pnel in the direction indicted by the rrow. Disconnect the plugs on the holder (20). GB/2-39
M Secure the dditionl wiring hrness () ner the fuse holder to the stndrd wiring hrness using cble ties (d). Then insert brnches A4-A5 on the dditionl wiring hrness () between the instrument pnel trim (2) nd the ventiltion shft (22) in the direction indicted by the rrow nd ly them towrds the gershift lever chmber. N Ly brnches A4-A5 on the dditionl wiring hrness () to the left pst the support tube (23) towrds the gershift lever chmber to prevent knocking noises being cused by the dditionl wiring hrness () ginst the instrument pnel trim. Insert brnch A5 on the dditionl wiring hrness (), cble colour grey/red, together with the grey/red cble on plug X324 (24) in slot 6 in the insultion-piercing connector (c) nd mke prllel connection by pressing the insultion-piercing connector (c) together. Then cut the excess cble on the insultion-piercing connector (c) on brnch A5 using n ngle cutter. Wrp the insultion-piercing connector (c) with fbric dhesive tpe to prevent possible short circuits. O Connect the 6-pin green socket csing A4 to switch X947 (h).then push the switch (h) into the recess (25) in the support. Conduct function test. Assemble the cr by replcing ll the prts you removed, but in reverse order. 2-40/GB
