Power Infrastructure Cable Trough Systems FP McCann offers a specialist range of precast reinforced concrete cable troughs and ducting systems used to house and protect most types of services, including power and communication cables and pipes for gas, water and chemicals. Easi-Duct access troughs and ducts can be buried underground, located above, or flush with surface levels to provide protection against accidental or malicious damage and to offer easy access for maintenance and repair. Three types of flush fitting lids are supplied in either reinforced precast concrete, GRP composite, or steel tray. All are designed and tested for loading group class to BS EN 124. Typical Easi-Duct applications include; rail and highway infrastructure; power stations; gas, oil and chemical installations; industrial, commercial and domestic developments; docks and harbours; water and sewage treatment plants. Benefits Compared with the alternatives of direct burying of cables and pipes or overhead suspension, Easi-Duct has a number of advantages:- Applicable to power and telecom cables in addition to pipes for liquids and gases Chemically resistant concrete Services buried at depth are unexposed to weather changes (i.e. freezing or overheating) High strength load bearing units Easy access for cable repair, jointing or new cable additions Whole life costing of precast concrete is lower than other forms of ducting construction Non conductive to electricity FP McCann can produce specialist units moulded to requirement Design Features The troughs, ducts and lids are designed and tested for load classes A15, B125, C250 and D400. For loadings E600 and F900, Easi- Duct systems are designed, tested and manufactured specific to order. P1 1

Quality FP McCann Easi-Duct systems are designed, manufactured and strength tested to comply with loading criteria as set out in accordance with BS EN 1433 (Troughs) and BS EN 124 (Lids). All operations are conducted in accordance with FP McCann s quality management system, BSI accredited to BS EN ISO 9001. Unit Handling Guide P7 1. All units are provided with 3/4 No. threaded lifting sockets to be used in conjunction with threaded lifting eyes. All lifting positions must be used. 2. The chain angle should not be less than 60 degrees to the horizontal. Chain lengths will vary depending on type and size of unit (FP McCann can advise further on request). 3. The weights of the trough units specified in trough Table 1 & 2. 4. Units may be stacked. The first unit should be placed on two timber bearers on even and firm ground. Subsequent units placed on top should be seperated with two timber bearers. The maximum height the units should be stacked is 1.8m unless instructed by the Site Engineer. 7

Installation Guide P8 Notes 1. The details shown are for guidance only and should be suitably reviewed with regard to actual ground conditions and applied loading. 2. A Class 1 mortar bed (min 25mm thickness) may be provided between trough and concrete / stone bedding to aid alignment. 3. Where troughs are laid to provide a sealed unit or where the haunching serves to retain water, the formation of a sump may be necessary (FP McCann can advise further). 4. Where units are to be sealed a proprietory sealant may be used e.g. polyurethane sealant. 5. Transitions in horizontal and vertical alignment can be achieved by and Angled units. Various sizes and configurations are available. When using cast in-situ infill sections, FP McCann advise that the structural integrity of the units be checked, especially in trafficked areas. 6. In trafficked locations, to minimise the risk of movement, lids should be seated on a minimum thickness of 2mm rubber bearing strip to reduce noise and vibration effects. 7. Parallel lengths of troughs should not be installed immediately adjacent to each other. However, subject to actual loading conditions, this may be acceptable. For Advice, contact FP McCann Technical Department 8. Where lids are subject to frequent slewing by commercial vehicles the lids may be require fixing in position with an epoxy mortar. Installation Procedure 1. Prepare formation to required level and lay granular / concrete base. 2. Position trough to required line and level. 3. Position adjacent trough and where required apply polyurethane sealant between units. 4. Place stone / concrete haunching to sides of trough as installation proceeds. 5. Continue installation procedure to form required length of ducting. 6. Carefully place suitable backfill material around trough to re-form required finished levels. 7. Install adjacent construction. 8. Install services into ducting. 8

Environmental Policy Statement P12 It is the policy of FP McCann to undertake its operations as a producer of precast concrete products in a manner that is least detrimental to the environment both inside and outside the premises and to comply with the relevant legislation, codes of practice and guidance notes. We are committed to promoting, and seek to continually improve, continual reduction of pollution, reduction of waste, and to recovery and recycling, as opposed to disposal, where feasible. Staff training in environmental probity is central to achieving our aims. Management are committed to providing and maintaining adequate financial and physical resources to implement training of personnel and equipment to reduce the impact on environment. We maintain an environmental management system, which sets our environmental targets for all of our relevant activities. These targets and the results of our environmental management system will be made available to interested parties on request. It is our aim to support these targets by maintaining third party corroboration of the success of our environment management system in the form of certification to ISO 14001.
