IG Metall Situation in the automotive industry 2016
2016 overview IG Metall The world automarket of passenger cars has increased by 4.35% to 81. 6m units (VDA data). A new 2.5% increase to 83.6m units is expected in 2017 (VDA). Sales crisis still strong particularly in Brazil and Russia. China (+17.8%) and India (+7.0%) have recorded the strongest increase. The US market was at a high level (17,1m new passenger cars) and is now declining slightly (-2.0%). In Europe too the market has expanded by 6.8% to 14.64m units. The volume increases have benefitted above all Fiat/Chrysler, Renault, Daimler and BMW. Alternative engines remain at a low level. In the EU and EFTA battery-driven passenger cars have increase by 3% to 90.800 units. The European truck market is on the increase, particularly the segment of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 t (+11.6% in 2016). Lage der Automobilindustrie Jahr 2016 3
