STEADY REST ORDERING GUIDE
ORDER INFORMATION CUSTOMER The first step to receiving a quote is gathering the necessary customer information: Dealer name Name of contact Contact phone number or email END USER End user information is also required in the event that LMC needs to contact them. The necessary information is: Company name Name of contact Contact phone number or email
MOUNT STYLE The mount style may determine many of the possible options and should be selected next. Standard styles of machine mounts include: ADAPTER FOR EXISTING BRACKET For machines with an existing bracket, a adaptor plate can be made to attach the Steady Rest. FIGURE 1: EXISTING MOUNT AND TAILSTOCK GUIDE (BOX GUIDE WAY) TS slide The tailstock guide mount is designed to slide and secure in the existing tailstock guide. It is capable of fitting any size Steady Rest with bracket as long as space permits. FIGURE 2: STEADY REST WITH TS SLIDE FLAT BED (BOX GUIDE WAY) A Steady Rest bracket can be attached to all flat bed machines as long as space permits. FIGURE 3: FLAT BED MACHINE
LINEAR MOTION GUIDE The Steady Rest cannot easily attach to a linear motion guide. It can be difficult to order the correct slide for the guide, and often there is a sliding chip guard. In the event the machine has a steel groove, a mount can be made for it. FIGURE 4: LINEAR FLAT BED GUIDE TURRET MOUNT The Steady Rest can be mounted to a machine s turret. There is an optional rotary joint to ease positioning of Steady Rest for large parts. FIGURE 5: TURRET MOUNTED MACHINING CENTER MOUNT For machining centers with a rotary table, a mount can be made which mounts to the machine s table. Multiple Steady Rests can be used with these machines. FIGURE 6: BRACKET FOR MACHINE
MACHINE INFORMATION The machine name, model, and serial number are useful for selecting from existing mounting solutions. If a mount does not exist, one can be designed using a simple 2D drawing with key dimensions of the machine to assure the Steady Rest will fit. More information may be needed later for the hydraulic system, lubrication, or hose layout.
STEADY REST SELECTION STEADY REST SIZE There is a large variety of Steady Rest available to meet all your turning needs. The appropriate gripping range for the work piece needs to be selected, these ranges are: Gripping Range (mm) 3-65 8-100 12-120 12-155 20-170 35-245 50-310 150-420 125-460 100-500 If the work piece does not fit in these standard sizes, a custom size Steady Rest can be ordered. LUBRICATION OPTIONS MANUAL LUBRICATION Steady Rest with manual lubrication come thoroughly greased internally, and a single grease nipple for continued lubrication AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION Steady Rest with automatic lubrication is oiled through integrated metering valves, and requires an auto-lube system. If require Atling can provide.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM The Steady Rest hydraulic mechanisms can be controlled by: Hydraulic fluid Compressed air High pressure coolant Existing hydraulic lines or a separate hydraulic unit can be used. There is also a wide range of connectors and controllers that can be purchased for installation. Pressure gauge Solenoid valve Flow regulator Pressure reducing valve Manifold block Connectors Hoses FIGURE 10: STEADY REST TYPICAL HYDRAULIC SYSTEM Automatic hydraulics Automatic lubrication
