Holville I.S. Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit (UPS) The Holville range of intrinsically safe equipment has power outputs specifically designed for use in Group 1 hazardous areas. The range includes Compact Power Supplies (PSU), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), and DC/DC converters as well as modular data logging equipment. Designed and manufactured in Australia, the Holville range of power supplies is tested to meet the requirements of AS2380.7. The units carry NSW MDA and ANZEx certification. (This LED is illuminated when one of the three current limit stages shuts down due to an overload.) o Voltage Regulator Failure LED. (This LED indicates the first Voltage regulator stage has failed) o 3 current limit test buttons (if fitted). Allows the user to test the integrity of each of the 3 current limit stages. Available with an optional timer that switches off all UPS output when mains has not been applied for a specified period of time and a timer reset switch. An optional auxiliary on/off cable to connect a remote on/off switch. The power supplies have a 12 month, return to factory, replacement warranty 1 Figure 2: A 7A.hr Holville Type 3 Ex m e (ia) UPS with armoured SWA cable 1 Some exclusions apply
Product Specifications Ex (ia) UPS Ex m e (ia) UPS Certificates ANZEx 98.4067X, MDA Ex m e ia 14348 Installation The Ex (ia) UPS is intended to be installed in a nonhazardous area. The intrinsically safe output may be used in a Group 1 Zone 0 hazardous area. The Ex m e (ia) UPS may be installed in a hazardous area of Group 1 Zone 1. The intrinsically safe output may be used in a Group 1 Zone 0 hazardous area. Conditions of Safe Use The equipment has been assessed to the entity concept and accordingly the electrical parameters given in the output table below must not be exceeded. The mains input voltage shall not exceed 250V. The UPS must not be operated in ambient temperatures > 40 o C. The Ex m e version must not be used in the presence of acetic acid vapours. The Ex m e enclosure must be earthed via the M4 stud fitted to the exterior of the enclosure. The Ex m e mains cable must be terminated in a manner suitable for the hazardous area in which the UPS is installed. It must be protected from damage. IP Rating IP54 Mains Input Factory Configured to 110VAC (max 115V) or 240VAC (max 250VAC). The mains connection is made via a flying lead. Mains fuses The Ex (ia) UPS has 2 replaceable mains fuses. The Ex m e (ia) UPS has its mains fuses encapsulated internally. The unit must be returned to the factory for the fuses to be replaced. Mains Cable A mains flex cable is fitted to this category of UPS. The cable must be selected in accordance with AS1972. Standard options available are Armoured Cable, 1.5mm 2 core + E (provided as standard) Type 2S machine cable,1.5mm 2 core + E ( please specify if required) An Ex e rated cable gland is fitted. The armouring of the Ex m e cable and the braid of the Type2S cable is earthed to the enclosure through the gland. 2m of cable is fitted as standard. A different length can be fitted in the factory if requested. The armoured and Type 2S cable for the Ex me (ia) version cannot be extended after manufacture. IS Outputs A typical Type 3 UPS has 2 IS output cables; the IS power output and the optional IS remote/timer reset cable. Both cables are a blue sheathed, twisted pair. 2m of cable is fitted as standard. Additional length can be fitted if requested.
IS Power Outputs The UPS can be configured with a 12.6V 0.97A or 12.6V 2.34A output. Associated I.S. parameters are as below: Model Uo (V) Io (A) Po (W) Co (uf) Lo (mh) 12.6V 2.34A 12.6 2.34 29.48 9.6 0.05 12.6V 0.97A 12.6 0.97 12.22 10 0.2 The output voltage, current and power of any model may be reduced to meet the entity parameters of attached equipment. However the Co and Lo parameters associated with the parent model may not be changed. The UPS IS power output may be connected to IS DC to DC converters for a wider range of output parameters. The IS power outputs of the DC to DC converters are individually galvanically isolated from their inputs. IS Remote 0n/Off and Timer Reset Connection Optional Timer The UPS can be optionally factory configured with a timer that switches off all UPS outputs when mains power has not been applied for a specified amount of time. The timer is most often configured to 20 or 40 minutes but may be varied at customer request. If the timer is fitted but not required, the timer wires can be permanently short circuited to disable the timer so that IS power will remain on continuously. Optional Remote On/Off The UPS can be optionally fitted with both an IS power output switch and an auxiliary on/off cable. This cable can be used to connect the UPS to a remotely located on/off switch. For example, if the UPS is contained in an enclosure, this cable can be used to locate an on/off switch outside the enclosure. If the remote on/off cable is fitted but not required the wires may be insulated so they remain open circuit. The intrinsic safety entity concept parameters for the IS Remote Connection (both the Timer Reset and Auxiliary On/Off wire pairs) are: Ui = 18.9V, Ii = 80mA, Ci = 0uF, Li = 0mH Uo = 18.9V, Io = 80mA, Co = 7uF, Lo = 70mH, L/R < 1179uH/W Batteries and Charging The battery pack inside the UPS contains at least one 12V sealed lead-acid battery with a capacity of 7 Amp.Hours. To recharge the battery pack from flat will take approximately 5-6 hours for each battery. The battery charging circuit is connected to the mains transformer in parallel to the IS power output circuit so while mains power is applied to the UPS the IS power output may supply a load even if the battery is flat and being recharged. Weight A 7A.Hr UPS weighs approximately 15kg, a 14A.hr UPS about 25kg and a 28A.Hr UPS 35 kg. Operating Temperatures If the UPS is intended to supply more than 800mA continuously then the base of the UPS should be covered in heatsink compound before being mounted on to its base plate. The operating temperature of the base of the UPS needs to be kept below 40 o C to minimise IS Power Output voltage drop under load.
