Included parts: Braided or non-braided exterior, corrugated, stainless steel flexible hose Ø28 mm Inlet nipple 1 (DN25) or 1-1/4 (DN32) NPT or BSPT Straight outlet reducer 1/2 (15 mm) or 3/4 (20 mm) for attachment of sprinkler (90 angle outlet reducer available for order separately) Support bar Brackets Viking Flexible Sprinkler Drops are available in various lengths to minimize the number of installed bends and meet the minimum material requirements of the installation. 2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Step 1: Ensure proper sprinkler position where the sprinkler is to be located and cut the proper clearance hole in the ceiling tile as described in the sprinkler technical data page. The sprinkler should be installed near the centre of the ceiling tile and between the main support rails of the suspended ceiling support system. The standard centerline of support beams is 600 mm, of which the support bar (Item 2 in Figure 1 furnished as standard) is 650 mm long. Form No. F_040115 16.04.21 Rev 16.1
Page 4 of 10 NOTE: A 1200 mm spacing is possible with a separately available support bar 1250 mm long (Part No. 14398). Step 2: See Figure 3 Attach the rail clips (1) to the ceiling grid using a screwdriver or by hand. Do not attach to cross support rail members. ** For long bar 1250 mm, order Part No. 14398 kit separately (10 bars per kit) Figure 3: VKFD Rail Clip Installation Step 3: See Figure 4 A. Apply a non-hardening thread sealant or sealant tape to the male threads of the nipple ONLY on the end that installs into the tee or elbow. DO NOT apply sealant to the hose connection thread. B. Install the inlet nipple into the branch line outlet tee or elbow. Make sure the tapered pipe thread is installed in the tee and the special shoulder thread is pointing towards the sprinkler location. Tighten the nipple into the tee with a pipe wrench for a leak-tight connection. C. Hand-tighten the hose on the fitting, then use a wrench to tighten and additional 1/4 turn (~8.5 N.m). The Viking flexible sprinkler hose includes a slip nut on both ends for attachment to the branch line fitting and the sprinkler outlet fitting that is secured in the ceiling support system as shown in Figure 4. NOTE: If possible, attach the hose after it has been formed into the proper installation shape to eliminate rotation of the hose when threading onto fittings. Page 5 of 10 Step 4: See Figure 5 Ensure that the maximum number of specified bends, with the minimum bend radius, are adhered to. A radius tool is available, which provides a minimum bend radius of 3 (75 mm) (part number 14402). NOTE: To minimize friction loss, a large bend radius is recommended; however it must be a smooth, constant radius. Note that the radius of the flex hose must NOT fall in the non-corrugated ends. Avoid long lengths of hose for the distance, as this would require more bends to install, possibly including low spots or kinks. Excessive numbers of bends might not properly drain and can cause severe pressure loss. Figure 5: VKFD Examples of Proper Installation NOTES: To route flexible hose around obstructions, select the proper length based on the type of obstruction to be avoided. Minimize the number of bends to ensure proper operation. Observe the minimum bend radii and the discharge location from the branch piping. See Figure 5 for illustration of recommended practice. Figures 6 and 7 illustrate different use of fittings. Figure 6 Form No. F_040115 16.04.21 Rev 16.1 Figure 7
Page 6 of 10 Step 5: Install the desired sprinkler head in the outlet reducer. Due to the special design of the Viking centre bracket, the sprinkler can be installed into the outlet nipple before it is attached to the sprinkler hose. Apply non-hardening thread sealant or sealant tape to the male threads of the sprinkler head and tighten the sprinkler in the outlet reducer using the appropriate sprinkler head wrench. Assemble one end of the flexible hose to the reducer shoulder thread and hand tighten, then tighten 1/4 turn to approximately 8.5 N.m of torque so as to not cut or crush the O-ring provided in the hose assembly. Step 6: Properly form the required bend radii around bend tool or cylindrical formed object or pipe, to provide constant and smooth radius, and align the hose for connection to the special inlet nipple installed in the sprinkler system branch line tee. First, attach the hose slip nut onto the shoulder nipple fitting hand tight, plus 1/4 turn to tighten to approximately 8.5 N.m of torque. DO NOT use sealant compound on the shoulder nipple threads. Next, properly form the flexible hose, forming the proper number of bends and minimum bend radius to align with the sprinkler outlet reducer. Attach the slip nut of the flexible hose to the sprinkler outlet reducer hand tight, same as above. DO NOT apply sealant to this thread, as the O-ring makes the seal. Step 7: After checking alignment of the sprinkler with the clearance hole and flush positioning with the finished ceiling surface, verify that all wing screws and the hose slip nuts are secure. The sprinkler outlet reducer and sprinkler can be placed in the centre bracket and the wing screw tightened by hand and/or power driver to a recommended torque of 2 N.m. Test the system for leaks per the hydrostatic test procedure of the applicable edition of NFPA 13, EN12845, or other local installation standard.
