The supplier of technology and services is working on some 100 projects related to connected solutions in its own plants. In these projects, the focus is on the needs of users and customers. The technology and services company is pooling its motorcycle activities from the areas of riding safety systems, powertrain technology, and display instruments into one business unit, the newly formed Two-Wheeler and Powersports. By 2021, the annual global production of two-wheelers should surpass 160 million a third more than today.
1-RB-21095 12,000 new hires this year growing significance of software competence In 2015, Bosch plans to take on some 12,000 graduates worldwide, 1,200 of them in Germany alone. Alongside mechanical and electrical engineers, graduates with IT knowledge have especially good chances. Today, one in three of the 45,700 associates working in research and development is a software engineer. Three thousand engineers are working on the internet of things alone. 1-RB-21096 High-tech kitchen: networked home appliances In the smart home, connected home appliances play a central role. The Bosch Home Connect app from BSH Hausgeräte GmbH already allows home appliances belonging to different brands to be networked and controlled from a single point. Using just one app, many additional functions can be used. For example, users can make sure their ovens are switched off while they re out and about. This year, BSH Hausgeräte GmbH will launch a number of additional connected home appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines. 1-RB-21097 Bosch is strengthening expertise in IT software Embedded software is already one of Bosch s strong points, and the company is successively adding to this with IT software expertise. Software is also featuring in ever more electric power tools and measuring instruments. The PLR 30 C and PLR 50 C laser rangefinders from Bosch are among the first laser rangefinders in the DIY market to feature an integrated Bluetooth interface for data transfer. This enables measurements to be quickly and easily transferred to and processed in the accompanying PLR measure&go app for Android and ios smartphones and tablets.
1-RB-21098 3S in networking business: sensors, software, and services In the connectivity business, there is a new 3S : sensors, software, and services. Bosch is the globally leading manufacturer of micromechanical sensors, more commonly known as MEMS sensors. This year, the company will manufacture 1.6 billion such sensory organs, nearly 25 percent more than in the previous year. 1-RB-21099 Electromobility: Key to market success is suitability for everyday use Bosch is currently working on 30 orders related to electrical powertrains and invests nearly 400 million euros annually in electromobility, not least in further developing battery technology. An app developed by Bosch gives drivers access to a network covering 80 percent of all web-enabled charge spots in Germany. For users, this means that recharging their electric vehicles is easy. 1-RB-21100 Mobility solutions for tomorrow s traffic automated driving For Bosch, automated driving is a significant area of growth. This year, Bosch will launch a number of new assistance systems for remote parking, as well as for traffic jams, evasive maneuvers, and turning against oncoming traffic. In the Mobility Solutions business sector, some 2,000 engineers are working to make the auto pilot for drivers a reality.
1-RB-21101 New service solutions on the internet of things ecall emergency notification The business potential of the internet of things lies above all in the new services related to it. Even today, Bosch offers a wide range of service solutions for many industries and customers. For example, its Security Systems division offers telematics services such as ecall for 500,000 vehicles in 16 languages. By the end of 2015, Bosch will have facilitated the connectivity of some 100,000 vehicles for the fleet management of leasing and insurance companies. 1-RB-21102 Growth through web-enabled products and internet-based services A focal point of future sales growth for Bosch is web-enabled products and internet-based services such as the Indego 1200 Connect robot lawnmower. Using the "Bosch Smart Gardening app on a smartphone or tablet, it can be simply and conveniently operated from anywhere.
1-RB-21103 Key data for 2014: Performance by business sector The Bosch Group increased its sales by 6.3 percent in 2014, to 49 billion euros. The Mobility Solutions business sector developed extremely positively. With its comprehensive portfolio of components, systems, and services, the technology and services company was able to achieve sales growth in this sector of 8.9 percent, to 33.3 billion euros. Sales of the Industrial Technology business sector totaled 6.7 billion euros. This slight drop compared to the previous year is due to a weak market, as well as to the divestment of the sector s pneumatics business in early 2014. Excluding this consolidation effect, sales increased by 2.5 percent. Encouraging growth was posted by the Consumer Goods business sector, whose sales grew 5 percent to 4.2 billion euros. In 2014, the Energy and Building Technology business sector increased its sales by 1.7 percent, to 4.6 billion euros. 1-RB-21104 Key data for 2014: Performance by region The Bosch Group increased its sales by 6.3 percent in 2014, to 49 billion euros. In Asia Pacific, the technology and services company recorded sales growth of 17 percent to 13 billion euros. Business in North America developed very well, growing 8.6 percent to 8.5 billion euros. In South America, weak automotive production and weakness of the Brazilian real had a negative effect on sales developments. At 1.5 billion euros, sales were down by an exchange rate-adjusted 4.4 percent on the previous year. Despite an economic situation that remained difficult, Bosch increased its sales in Europe by 2.1 percent to 26 billion euros.
1-RB-21105 Key data for 2014: Bosch as software company The Bosch Group s strategic objective is to create solutions for a connected world. In developing these solutions, the company places great importance on its international research and development network with 45,700 engineers working at 94 locations in 25 countries. Today, one in three of the 45,700 associates working in research and development is a software engineer. Three thousand engineers are working on the internet of things alone. 1-RB-21106 Smart homes: Bosch as systems integrator People who live in smart homes can use their smartphones to conveniently control devices and appliances of all kinds, without having to worry about different technologies and makes. For this to happen, all the devices and appliance in a house coffee-maker, central heating, lights, and blinds have to be able to send data simply and securely to each other, as well as to smartphones and tablets. To this end, ABB, Bosch, and Cisco are establishing Mozaiq, an international joint venture that will develop and operate an open software platform for devices and applications in smart homes.
