PILLOWS DECK-MOUNT BATH FAUCET WITH FLUME SPOUT BEFORE YOU BEGIN NOTES Observe all local plumbing and building codes. Advance planning before installation is crucial. Carefully read the entire instructions before beginning the installation, especially the Installation Planning And Preparation section. Component location, spacing, and situational requirements can vary. The illustrations do not show all configurations. Check for elbows and tubing needed. Dry fit the assemblies before soldering. Provide an access panel for all installations. Solder all connections from the transfer valve to the spout, and from the transfer valve to the hot and cold valves. Use hard-drawn tubing (type M, K, or L) from the valves to the diverter to the spout. Install water-hammer arresters in the supply line. When using compression joints, Kohler Co. recommends an assembly torque of 45 to 60 foot pounds for compression nuts. From handtight, approximately 1/2 turn is needed to produce the required torque with hard-drawn tubing. The vacuum breaker integral in the 3-way transfer valve provides backflow protection for the handshower and optional wall shower. TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED Open end/adjustable wrenches Adjustable arc pliers Screwdrivers 5/32 and 5/64 hex wrenches 1-1/2 socket wrench Soldering equipment and supplies 1/2 nominal and 3/4 nominal copper tubing (use hard-drawn for compression fittings) Plumbers putty NOTE: Confirm materials needed by dry fitting all components before beginning installation. 114423-2-CB 1999 Kohler Co.

Fig. #1 36 HEAVY- DUTY HOSE 60 DECORATIVE HOSE INSTALLATION PLANNING AND PREPARATION COMPONENT LOCATION The suggested minimum deck size is approximately 28 long and 8 wide. Carefully plan the installation before beginning the roughing-in. Pillows Faucet Handles Spout Wall Shower Transfer Valve Handshower NOTE: Many different configurations of the components are possible. Your installation may differ from that shown. Decide in advance the location and orientation of the transfer valve. Location of the other components and the direction the inlets/outlets point will affect the piping and connectors you will need. Hot/Cold Supplies Fig. #2 114423-2-CB 2

Materials which are not included, such as the wall shower, water-hammer arresters, and the piping between the components, will affect the location of the components. The minimum distance between the valves is limited by the handle size and the direction the outlets point. Allow clearance for the spout connection. The distance between the transfer valve and the heavy-duty hose connection can be extended with piping below the deck, but may not be safe or practical. A long run of piping will mean a long run of room-temperature standing water when the handshower is first activated for use. Determine the distance from the transfer valve to the other components, and to the wall and fixture. Allow sufficient working room for making the soldered connections to the transfer valve. Long runs of piping should be secured to the underside of the deck/rim. If the piping cannot be secured at a point near the transfer valve, secure the transfer valve from underneath with blocking lumber or other suitable support. As supplied, the handspray should not be located more than approximately 28 from the transfer valve. This allows easy access to the connection between the decorative and heavy-duty hoses. INSTALLATION INSTALL SPOUT Thread the mounting nut (flange side up) completely onto the spout tee. Slide one fiber washer, followed by one rubber washer, onto the spout tee. Insert the spout tee up through the hole in the deck. Thread the flange nut to the top threads of the spout tee, and tighten until snug. Carefully fit the O-ring onto the top goove of the spout tee. Apply a bead of plumbers putty or other sealant to the spout base according to the manufacturer s instructions. Fit the spout over the exposed end of the spout tee, and thread in the spout setscrew to hold the spout in place. Do not tighten the setscrew at this time. Align the spout tee for proper orientation with the required connections, then securely tighten the mounting nut to the deck. Align the spout for proper orientation, and tighten the setscrew. Press the plug button into the setscrew hole. Insert the fiber washer into the hex cap, and thread the hex cap onto the side of the tee which will not be connected to the transfer valve. Make sure the valve marked COLD is on the right side when you are facing the front of the faucet. Escutcheon Gasket Slide a gasket on each valve, and loosely thread an escutcheon to each valve. Do not securely tighten at this time. Fig. #6 Use the handles to set the proper valve height. The handles are fully assembled for shipment, and must be disassembled to set the proper valve height. Unthread the sleeve from the handle, and remove the screw, lock washer, and spline adapter. Spline Adapter Sleeve Handle Screw Lock Washer Fig. #7 114423-2-CB 4

Install the spline adapter on the valve spline, and thread the handle sleeve onto the escutcheon. Secure with the screw. Screw Sleeve Valve Spline Spline Adapter Escutcheon Fig. #8 NOTE: The handle must rest above the escutcheon. The deck thickness should not affect the required 1/16 clearance dimension. Raise the entire valve body to allow for proper clearance. Thread the handle onto the sleeve, and check for 1/16 clearance between the escutcheon and handle. Adjust the escutcheon to achieve the 1/16 clearance dimension. Position the valve outlets for the particular installation configuration, and tighten the mounting nuts. CAUTION: Risk of product damage. To protect the handle finish, remove the handles during general construction, and when soldering. INSTALLATION CHECKOUT Turn on the hot and cold water supplies, and check the installation for leaks. Repair as required. Turn the faucet handles to ON, and note that water runs from the spout. Again check for leaks. Repair as required. Inspect the transfer valve as follows: Remove the mud guard. Operate the transfer valve and associated fittings, and carefully inspect the entire installation for leakage and proper operation. Correct as needed. If water flows from the valve cartridge during operation, or if the transfer valve becomes plugged or inoperable, disassemble and clean the cartridge in the following manner: Remove the cartridge and collar according to the Three-Way to Two-Way Conversion instructions beginning on Page 5. Carefully remove the rectangular seals from the cartridge, and set them on a clean, soft surface. Slowly work the transfer tube out of the cartridge body. Do not lose or damage the transfer tube O-rings now exposed. Lift the poppet out of the cartridge, and carefully clean both with hot water. Do not use any solvents to clean the components. Reinstall the poppet to the cartridge, and carefully slip the transfer tube back into the cartridge. Use special care to work the O-ring past the large port in the cartridge without pinching or scoring the O-ring. Slightly twist the transfer tube back and forth to ease reassembly. Verify that the transfer tube hole lines up with the large port in the cartridge. Align the collar on the transfer tube so the collar tab lines up with the large port. Snap the collar in place so both locking tabs are fully engaged. Inspect the rectangular seals for dirt or damage, and install the seals to the cartridge.
