The Most Advanced Low Voltage and High Voltage Motors an Induction motors Induction motors are the true workhorses of industry, widely used in the pulp and paper, petro/chemical, marine and offshore, power, water and wastewater processing industries. Typical applications include pumps, fans, blowers, compressors, conveyors, mills, crushers, refiners, pulverizers, and vessel thrusters. High efficiency Motors Our ultra high efficient LV motors are of totally enclosed fan cooled design, with aluminum or cast iron frames. All fall within EU efficiency classification eff1 and the North American EPCA equivalent. Hazardous area Motors ABB was the first manufacturer to earn the CE mark for explosion proof LV motors under European Directive 94/9/EC, Atmospheres Explosives (ATEX). We cover all standards and all protection types (Ex na, EEx e, EEx d(e), Ex p). Standard Induction Motors: Totally enclosed fan cooled, or open drip proof, aluminum, steel or cast iron frames. Our motors are field proven for demanding industrial applications ranging from air circulation to oil and gas exploration; conveyor drives to traditional fans and pumps. 4
d Generators Modular Induction motors Slip Ring Motors Modular induction motors use modular building blocks based on the same basic design. We offer a complete range of enclosures and cooling arrangements as well as optimal weight to power ratio. Also available for hazardous area applications. The slip ring unit is positioned at one end of the motor for ease of maintenance. The unit can be fitted with permanent contact brushes for adjustable speed drives, or with a brush-lifting device for continuous operation. Also available for hazardous area applications. Induction Generators Wind turbine generators are the most common variant of induction generators. We can supply LV and HV, cast iron and steel wind turbine generators. 5
Synchronous Motors and Generators for Various Applications Synchronous motors A high degree of standardization enables shorter delivery times and greater versatility. Our standard motors are suitable for general applications in the petro/chemical, mining, metallurgy, pulp and paper and similar industries. They can also be used in special applications such as wind tunnels and condensers. Frequency controlled Azipod propulsion motors have been developed by ABB in partnership with leading shipbuilders. Located outside the ship s hull, the Azipod is a modular podded unit rotating 360 degrees, thus greatly improving maneuverability. 7
