GOAL Since we already developed an Akrapovic EVOLUTION exhaust system for the 2002 model, it was a logical consequence that the 2003 model would find its way into our development department. The Akrapovic EVOLUTION system for the 2003 Honda CRF 450R is a product which adds even more to the performance package of this bike. ABOUT AKRAPOVIC EVOLUTION SYSTEMS The Akrapovic EVOLUTION system sits at the very top of our product range. As the flagship of the Akrapovic line it appears in both the Road and Offroad series. The EVOLUTION system from the Offroad series differs from the Road version primarily in its exterior appearance, while the use of materials and technology are essentially identical. The use of lightweight exotic titanium and the principle of conical tubing are the basic characteristics of EVOLUTION systems. And of course the popular EVO also sits at the top of our performance range. The main difference is the shape of the muffler, which was specially designed for off-road motorcycles. The Akrapovic sticker, which displays the origin of the exhaust system, is also different for the Offroad series. In order to satisfy the specific demands of off-road conditions, the muffler is made entirely of titanium and designed to be as lightweight and compact as possible. The attachment of the muffler to the bike is performed with the help of an Akrapovic carbon-fiber muffler clamp, which is double-strength i.e. wider for the Offroad series. The header assembly is also made entirely of titanium. The header tubes are conical, as is the link pipe, as is characteristic of EVOLUTION line systems. The motor does not have less power between 5000 and 7000 rpm with the use of our system as it seems from a quick glance at the chart, but puts out exactly the same amount of power at slightly higher revs. The stock system gives you the same power at ca. 200 rpm lower than with our exhaust. After that it s a different story. From 7000 rpm on the Akrapovic EVOLUTION system comes into its own. The huge jump over the stock power and the wide power band at the top of the range will convince all doubters. Maximum horsepower of 49.6 HP is reached at 9260 rpm, while max. increased power of 3.3 HP is delivered at 10000 rpm. torque below 5000 rpm the torque receives an explosive increase with our exhaust system, followed by a slight drop in comparison to the stock system. At most 500 rpm more is required to obtain the equivalent torque. From 7000 rpm on the Akrapovic EVOLUTION system delivers an increase in torque simultaneously with the boost in power. It should be emphasized that the delivery of torque is essentially linear from 5000 rpm right to the top of the torque curve at 7500 rpm. The aluminum frame of the Honda CRF 450R goes extremely well with the titanium construction of the Akrapovic EVOLUTION system. It makes for an interesting aesthetic set-up, which in combination with the huge stocks of performance on tap offers a great amount of pleasure while riding. To make the package complete, there is the unmistakable sound of the free flowing exhaust gases from the Honda one-banger.
