This BORLA Exhaust Diffuser is developed concurrently with BORLA products for proper static and dynamic thermal ventilation, adequate vehicle ground clearance, and combined system weight savings over your factory exhaust system. These instructions have been written to help you with the installation of your Borla Performance Exhaust System. Please read this document completely before beginning the installation of your system. Thank you for purchasing a Borla Performance Exhaust Diffuser. Borla Performance Stainless Exhaust Diffuser (77012) is designed to compliment Borla Cat-back 140496 for the Scion FR S or Subaru BRZ. Borla Performance Industries recommends that an exhaust shop or professional after market parts installer, who has all the necessary equipment, tools and experienced personnel needed for proper installation, should perform the installation of this system. However, if you decide to perform the installation, we recommend someone should help you. Ensure the installer uses all under car safety precautions including eye protection. Minimum Required Tool List: TOOLS: 1 Socket wrench 2 12 Extension w/ Universal Joint 3 11mm Socket 4 10mm Socket NOTE: Borla recommends using a liquid thread-lock to all hardware bolts to minimize bolts becoming loose. Inspect hardware periodically to prevent loose hardware that could lead to vehicle damage. SHOP SUPPLIES: 1 Liquid thread lock Left Side Borla Performance - Bill of Materials Left Side (2) Inner Brackets (2) Outer Brackets Caution!!! Never work on a hot exhaust system. Serious injury in the form of burns can result If the vehicle has been in use and the exhaust system is hot, allow vehicle to cool for at least 1 hour. Always wear eye protection when working under any vehicle. Note: It is our recommendation that you use a hoist or hydraulic lift to facilitate the installation of your new Borla Performance System. Taking all under car safety precautions, lift the vehicle using a hoist or hydraulic lift. Note: Please compare the parts you have received with the bill of materials provided on the previous page to assure that you have all the parts necessary for the installation of your new Borla Performance System. (See Fig. 1) 2. BORLA recommends applying a liquid THREAD LOCK when installing bracket hardware. Verify U-bolt nuts have LIQUID THREAD LOCK and carefully torque U-bolt nuts 18-20 ft. lbs. torque. 3. Install Bracket Assembly to left-side pipe. Install U-bolt and Clamp Saddle over Y-Pipe Assembly pipe (verify Clamp Saddle body does NOT overlap expanded pipe of Tail Pipe Assembly). Insert the LOWER (not upper) U- bolt end into L-Bracket. (See Figs. 2A & 2B) Lightly tighten nuts. 4. Install Bracket Assembly to right-side pipe as shown. (See Fig. 4) 5. Install Bracket Assembly to left-side pipe as shown. Insert BOTH U-bolt ends into L-Bracket. (See Figs. 5A & 5B) Lightly tighten nuts. 6. Install Bracket Assembly to left-side pipe as shown. Insert BOTH U-bolts ends into L-Bracket. (See Figs. 6A & 6B) Lightly tighten nuts. Install Exhaust Diffuser Body 7. Exhaust Diffuser is secured with (4) M6 bolts attaching to the L-bracket clip-on nuts. 8. Carefully position the Exhaust Diffuser body into position inserting (4) M6 bolts through the Diffuser Body and into the L-bracket clip-on bottom nuts. SNUG BOLTS TEMPORARILY TO DIFFUSER BODY. 9. Using 11mm socket with 12 extension/universal joint, slowly tighten (4) INNER Bracket U-bolt nuts on Saddle Clamps. (See Figs. 7 & 8). Remove extension/universal bolt and tighten (4) OUTER Bracket U-bolts nuts from the sides. You may need to adjust Saddle Clamp position in this process to align diffuser body. Figure 7 Figure 8 10. Tighten (4) M6 bolts to 15-17 ft. lbs. torque. Check torque of these bolts 2-3 times a year to prevent loose bolts and potential damage to vehicle. REMOVAL: Exhaust Diffuser Panel can be easily removed for maintenance or service access by removing (4) bolts with 10mm socket. Remember to re-apply a THREAD LOCK when re-stalling Exhaust Diffuser Panel. Figure 8 NOTE: Borla recommends using a liquid thread-lock to all hardware bolts to minimize bolts becoming loose.
