INTRODUCTION General Sunflower announces the introduction of two new models in the 6600 Series Vertical Tillage System. The new 6631-35 and 6631-40 Series deliver the strength and features demanded by today s high-horsepower precision farming. The 6631 Series utilize the patented Split Wing technology that ensures the transport height under 14 feet. The 6631 also uses the Sunflower Saber disc blades and Sunflower offset disc gang design. It is a tough product that gets the job done of opening cold, damp, early spring soils, to the warming action of the sun. This early soil warming allows planting days earlier in the spring and provides a jump on Mother Nature, thus increasing the chances for maximum production by utilizing a full growing season. The 6631 is a machine that shreds heavy BT residue into a manageable size and brings up enough soil coverage to begin the residue breakdown process with the low horsepower requirements of the 6631, larger equipment can cover more acres with less fuel. That increases return on investment in both time and dollars. [100]
FEATURES AND BENEFITS General Vertical tillage is becoming one of the more popular approaches to utilizing a full growing season in climates where getting into the field early in the spring can be a challenge. Due to cold, damp, soils and the tough physical structure and shear volume of residues of new plant hybrids special equipment needs to be used to meet these demands. For plants to achieve the maximum potential bred into them, they need even soil temperatures and a consistent moisture content throughout the vertical soil profile. Vertical tillage achieves this sizing and mixing of plant residues with just the very upper layers of the soil profile, and provides enough clean surface to absorb sunlight and evenly warm the upper 2 to 3 inches of soil. The 6631-35 and 6631-40 are designed for this surface tillage and residue control. The unique Sunflower Saber disc blades have a scalloped design that cuts the toughest residues and penetrates the hardest soils. The very low concavity blades set at an 18 degree operating gang angle are designed to mix tough residues with just the right amount of soil to initiate soil warming. With operating widths of 35 and 40 feet, the new 6631 can handle the larger farming operations. [200]-1
FEATURES AND BENEFITS COULTER BLADE The Sunflower Saber blade is one of the most exciting new disc innovations in years. The unique design is extremely well-suited for cutting through the toughest of residue and penetrating the soil. The Sunflower Saber has excellent clod-crushing capabilities at normal working speeds and yields excellent performance in soft soils. As the cutting edge wears away, it actually maintains an aggressive cutting edge, and continues to work season after season. For long life and aggressive cutting, the Sunflower Saber meets and exceeds demanding situations, and the low 1.5 inch concavity, 22 inch diameter Sunflower Saber is unique to Sunflower. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Gang Placement The front and rear disc gangs are offset to the allow the front gang to clear-cut the entire width of the soil profile. Most competitors use the heads up or end to end set up that leaves an uncut ridge of soil. The Sunflower offset rear gang creates a feathering effect that helps prevent the ridge/valley profile created by competitors that utilize the heads up design. It also makes leveling the implement easier and allows a wider range of speed and depth without affecting leveling. Main Frame The heavy main frame of 4 x 6 x 3/8-inch stringers front to rear have the strength to meet the demands of tough tillage conditions, maintaining the structural integrity of the frame for the life of the machine. The heavy 4 x 5 x 1/4-inch horizontal stringers ensure even the most severe side loads and rotational torque will not affect frame integrity. Fold cylinder mounts are opposed and attached to a common mounting point to distribute folding stress away from the frame members. Wing Frames The wing frames are heavily braced to withstand the horizontal stress and rotational torque that occurs during operation of the disc. Each 6631 wing is designed to match that cutting width. This keeps the wing lift and wheels near the outer limits of the cutting area, ensuring maximum control of the wing. This usually requires a larger size wing and more wing frames, but is essential for the wing to run level and not create gouges and ridges. [200]-3
FEATURES AND BENEFITS Welded Tongue The welded tongue provides strength and rigidity, and the single lip hitch is built to hold up under the most adverse conditions. The Cat V lug hitch is designed to handle the draft and side loads encountered in even adverse field conditions. Also a hose docking station is included to assist in keeping the hydraulic couplings clean and a location to dock the 7-pin electrical connector. Lift System Design The lift systems of both the main frame and the wing sections have the rock shafts tied to at least two frame members through UHMW bearings. This spreads the torque loads so stress is not isolated on one frame member. The result is a straighter running transport system and longer life. Many manufactures mount the lift system on one frame member thus side loads and rotational stress cause that frame member to fail prematurely. Walking Tandems The walking axle design averages out localized surface variations to reduce vertical travel when the tire engages a ridge or object in the soil surface profile. Bolt in spindles with triple lip seals provide years of trouble-free service and can not be damaged by over greasing and carry the Sunflower 3-Year Limited Warranty. [200]-4
Lift System Bearings FEATURES AND BENEFITS The 6631 lift system is equipped with maintenance-free UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) plastic bearings, that eliminate metalto-metal contact and wear. The lift system never requires lubrication, resulting in more time in the field and less time servicing. With the metal-to-metal contact eliminated, the disc stays in adjustment and continues to provide a level field. Each lift system is mounted on at least two frame members to provide strength and maintain alignment. UHMW Wing Hinge Bearings Long-wearing High Hat UHMW bearings are in all wing hinge locations to reduce wear and keep wing hinges tight and in alignment during the toughest of field conditions. This also saves time in servicing with use of the nogrease bearing system. Gauge Wheel Heavy duty gauge wheels with parallel linkage and swivel design allows the gauge wheel to turn with the machine and follow contours. All pivot and thrust bearing surfaces are protected with UHMW bearings to eliminate greasing and provide long life and low maintenance. [200]-5
Single Point Depth Control FEATURES AND BENEFITS The front mounted depth control allows the operating depth of the entire machine to be adjusted with a single setting. This simple adjustment is easy, safe, precise, and hydraulically locks the depth. C-Flex Bearing Standards The C-Flex bearing standards absorb disc gang shock created by stumps, rocks, and normal operating conditions. This extends bearing, spool, and disc blade life. The C- Flex arm, is formed at a compound angle so that it is centered from top to bottom between the blades, allowing maximum clearance for residue to pass through. Finishing Reels The finishing reel enhances the performance of the 6630 by shattering clods and root wads. It also aids in a final mixing of soil surface materials and assist in the final leveling of the soil surface and tying residue to the soil surface. There are three options for 6631, an 11-inch flat bar, a 14-inch flat bar and a 14-inch round bar. The 14-inch flat bar and round bar are shown. [200]-6
FEATURES AND BENEFITS Trunnion Mount Bearing Sunflower s trunnion bearings provide positive alignment, eliminate wear between the bearing housing and ensures positive lubrication. As the C-Flex bearing standards move, gang bearings have to constantly realign. In conventional bearing systems the bearing moves in the housing. This leads to wear and misalignment of lubrication channels. In the Sunflower system, lubrication channels are always open and the bearing can never be over greased due to the triple lip seals that cannot be damaged by over greasing. Special alloy washers protect the seals from damage by rocks or from residue wrapping around the gang shaft. Hydraulic Leveling To make leveling front to rear even easier, the standard hydraulic leveling system makes onthe-go leveling possible from the tractor cab. The heavy-duty compression springs cushion the front and rear gangs when crossing ditches or rough terrain. Trash Bars Trash bars are standard equipment and help prevent residue buildup between the blades. [200]-7
FEATURES AND BENEFITS Safety Equipment Enhanced permanent safety lighting is standard on all Sunflower products, as is the SMV sign. Amber lights near the outer limits of the unit in transport position and the red, stop and turn lights are easily visible at the rear of the machine. Jack Stand and Safety Chain The easily adjusted top crank jack stand and the safety chain are standard on all Sunflower disc harrows. Also shown is the hydraulic hose loom mounted on the tongue and 7-pin electrical plug and docking station. The seven pin lighting plug stores in a docking station on the tongue to prevent moisture and dirt from contaminating the contacts.
