Slurry Seal FAQs Who s doing the work? Who do I call with questions I may have after I read this FAQ? This slurry seal work is being done by Pavement Coatings Company a contractor hired by the City of Camarillo. Please contact the contractor at (714) 826-3011 if you have questions. The contractor has a 24-hour answering service at (951) 703-8607 for emergencies. Non-emergency calls will be handled at (714) 826-3011 during regular business hours. You may also call the City Public Works Department at (805) 388-5340 during regular business hours. Why is my street being slurry sealed? Streets require periodic maintenance to ensure safe and trouble-free travel. This resurfacing should last many years. The texture of the new street surface may be different from the old surface due to new types of material being used today. What s involved in slurry sealing my street? Work may occur on consecutive days, and the parking restriction signs will reflect the days that restrictions are in place. Please check the dates listed on the signs frequently to be aware of schedule changes. The project information page on the City website lists the anticipated schedule for the work, as well. The general order of work is: Parking restrictions during Weed Spraying. Partial street closure, traffic will be maintained during Pavement Repair. Some localized areas will be posted No Parking next to repair areas. Partial closure, traffic will be maintained during Crack Sealing. Some localized areas will be posted No Parking next to some crack seal areas. Full closure, traffic may be restricted during Slurry Seal, No Parking, or Driving signs restricting parking and driving along the street to be slurry sealed will be posted. The street will be closed for several hours while slurry seal is taking place and while the slurry seal cures. Please don t drive or walk on the slurry seal until the street is reopened, as the slurry seal will be very sticky and difficult to remove. Arterial streets with 4 lanes or more will be performed in phases to allow traffic to use the street. Traffic and parking may be restricted on these streets. Temporary stripes/tape/markings will be placed on the street after Slurry Seal is completed. Traffic and parking restriction signs will be removed once the street is reopened. Permanent striping and markings will occur at a later date. Only localized No Parking restrictions on streets being painted and partially closed will be in effect during this stage.

Can I park on my street during construction? Can I drive on the street during construction? There are two types of parking restrictions. No Parking means that cars parked on the street during the restrictions are subject to towing. No Parking or Driving means that the street is closed to traffic; no vehicles may be parked or driven on that street during the restrictions. Please remember it is illegal to drive on a closed street. Also keep in mind that crews will be working in the street, so please watch out for both equipment and workers. Approximately 72 hours before the work starts, No Parking signs will be posted on the street stating the days and times restrictions are in effect. Typically there is no work on weekends and holidays, unless the signs specifically state otherwise. If only a few signs are taped together with caution tape in a localized area, there is No Parking only in that area. If these signs are posted up and down the street, no parking is allowed on the days and times listed on the signs. The street will be open to (local) traffic in these cases, but there may be construction work in progress. If posted signs indicate No Parking or Driving, that means that the street will be closed to all traffic on the listed days and times. Please park on another street that doesn t have restrictions, so your vehicle(s) will be available if you need to leave your house after the street is closed. If you will be away during the parking restriction period, please park your vehicle(s) in the garage or on another street that is not posted No Parking. Keep in mind that, if your street is currently being resurfaced, other streets in the neighborhood may be done in the following days. It s a good idea to contact either the contractor or the Public Works Department before you leave for an extended period to verify that your alternate parking location will not have posted parking restrictions in your absence. What do the No Parking signs on my street mean? They say No Parking on Thursday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., can I park on my street Wednesday evening? Please refer to the information above. No Parking signs are posted approximately 72 hours in advance of the work and the signs will indicate when the restriction is effective. If the sign indicates No Parking on Thursday 8a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., that means that parking on any other days (but only before 8 or after 5 on Thursday and Friday) is OK, unless the street is reposted for restrictions on those days or times. Please read the signs frequently to verify that the days and times have not changed. And be sure to move your car out of the posted area before the restriction goes into effect or your vehicle(s) may be towed. When can I drive on the street after it s slurry sealed? Can I walk or ride my bike on the slurry? The indication that it is safe to use the street again will be that the street closure barriers have been removed. Once the slurry seal equipment has moved down the street, several hours will be needed to cure the new surface, (approximately three to four hours). Please do not drive, walk, ride a bike or otherwise travel on newly resurfaced streets until the barriers are removed; the extremely sticky pavement may be damaged and so

might your vehicle. Driving on the surface too soon will also track black material all over your neighborhood and your driveway. I need to get to work, but slurry seal will occur before I leave; what should I do? Please plan ahead by parking on another street that doesn t have posted restrictions, if you know you must leave your house after your own street is closed. If you have a special circumstance, please call the contractor or the Public Works Dept. (the numbers are listed at the top of this page). I have a special event (e.g. a wedding) on the day slurry seal is scheduled on my street; what should I do? If a significant event is occurring on the day we will be working on your street, please call us as soon as possible. The sooner you call, the more flexibility we have to accommodate your request. But please remember that changes may inconvenience your neighbors. What happens if I have an emergency during construction? Ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles will find a way to get through the construction area in event of emergencies. If your own emergency is a plumbing problem, medical issue or other such need, please call one of the numbers indicated and we will do our best to accommodate your need to drive on the street during the closure. I forgot the slurry seal will take place today and I need to get out, but barricades are up closing the street. What should I do? Please call us as soon as you can so we can try to accommodate you, but understand that there may be a wait. PLEASE DO NOT drive across the pavement if the new slurry is already down, as that may damage the street and your vehicle. I have a doctor s appointment the day slurry seal is scheduled and I have difficulty walking, what should I do? If it s possible to reschedule your appointment to another day, please do so. If you cannot reschedule, be sure to contact us right away so we may try to accommodate you. What will happen with my trash pick-up and mail delivery? Trash collectors and mail carriers have the project schedule and will perform their duties either early in the morning or late in the day. What do I do about deliveries scheduled to my home? Please schedule expected deliveries before or after the day your street is scheduled for slurry seal. Will there be work on the weekends or holidays? Typically, no work is performed on weekends or holidays. However, in special circumstances that require working on the weekend or holidays, signs and notices on the street will specifically indicate those days. We will make every effort not to work on

weekends and holidays, so if crews are working on one of these days, it is due to special circumstances. Will lawn irrigation cause problems with construction? Yes. Please do not water on the day crews will work on your street. Automatic sprinklers should be turned off to avoid accidental watering during construction. Wet streets before street resurfacing causes problems during construction, and additional work or rescheduling may be necessary. How will rain affect the construction schedule? If significant rains are in the forecast, the work may need to be rescheduled. If only light rains are forecast, then some work may continue. However, street resurfacing cannot be done during rain. Streets will be reposted with new dates if the work is rescheduled. Why did the work start, then stop on my street? I haven t seen the contractor working on it for a couple weeks; what is happening? It is generally more efficient for the contractor to perform one type of work on numerous streets in the neighborhood before moving on to the next step. So the contractor may do pavement repairs (e.g., crack sealing or filling potholes) on your street, then do the same on other streets in area before going on to the next phase of the project. The contractor may not be back for a while, so please be patient. If there is inclement weather, including very cold weather, there may be a delay in getting to the next phase. Also, work such as weed spraying is done so quickly, you might not notice it s been done. If you have questions about when the contractor will return to your street, please call one of the phone numbers listed at the top of this page. The signs say slurry seal is occurring today, but it s already noon and nobody has shown up; what s happening? There are a number of possibilities. The contractor schedules several streets to be done each day, and your street may not be worked on until later in the day. Another possibility is that an equipment breakdown has caused the work to fall behind schedule. The crews typically try to catch up elsewhere and might be on another street in your area. If the work on your street cannot be done on the posted date, it will be rescheduled and you will be re-notified.
