2. Introduction: The Rise III Shower-, Commode- & Care Chair accommodates the needs of both the user and the helper. The electrical elevation (Seat height 54 cm 95 cm) makes it possible to avoid lifting the user with a traditional sling. By elevating the seat to match the height of the bed or wheelchair, most users can transfer themselves sideways to/from the Rise III. For weak patients use of a transfer board may be advantageous. The electrical elevating function enables the helper to obtain an ideal working position during toileting, showering and personal hygiene routines. This allows the user to enjoy his/her daily shower, etc. without feeling that they are a burden to the helper, thus contributing to less stressful care routines. The elevating function combined with the seat, which can be tilted forward and backward, also enables the Rise III to help the user to a standing position. This is possible because the chair not only lifts the seat up to 38 cm (15 in.) but, at the end of the elevating cycle, the user may be tilted forwards about 20 cm (8 in.). In this way Rise III, in the same way as typical catapult seats, may help the user to move their body s centre of gravity to a point directly above their feet. Getting to this vertical position is often one of the most difficult problems for persons with limited walking or standing ability. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions for improvements, please do not hesitate to call your local dealer or contact Borringia directly by phone at TEL +45 49 13 88 55 or on the Internet: www.borringia.com. Rise III Shower-, Commode & Care Chair is simple & logical to use. However, you must read the following instructions carefully prior to using the chair: 3. Lifting & Tilting: Both the lifting and the seat tilting functions are electrical. Power is supplied by a 24 volt battery (NiMh) with a capacity of 1,4 Ah, sufficient for 25-30 full lifting cycles when fully charged. Pressing the corresponding button on the hand control activates lifting/lowering and seat tilting. As soon as the button is released, movement stops. This button to lift This button to lower This button to tilt the seat forwards This button to tilt the seat backwards 3

4. Battery & Charging: 1. Rise III is equipped with a 24 volt battery (NiMh) with a capacity of 1,5 Ah. When the battery is fully charged, it has sufficient capacity for 25-30 full lifting cycles. 2. The battery and electronics box are equipped with a number of safety and signalling functions, which help prevent that you run out of power during a job a. When the battery has been discharged to a point, where there is sufficient power left for 5 lifting cycles, pressing the buttons on the hand control will result in a beep. This is an indication that charging is needed. b. If the battery is still used without being charged, the electronics will at a certain point only allow downwards movement. This is an indication that charging is needed. c. If usage of the battery is continued, the electronics will at a given point prohibit all movement. d. All batteries loose performance when they are cold, i.e. at 0 Celsius (32 F) or colder. If you have left your Rise III or the battery in your car in cold weather, you may have to re-charge the batteries, before using the Rise III. e. Normal operational temperature should be 0-40 Celsius (32-104 F) To charge the battery follow the steps below. 1. Pull the battery out of the electronics box 2. Push the battery into the charging station and turn it clockwise until the magnets lock the battery in place. As long as the green lamp blinks, charging is ongoing. When the green lamp is lit permanently, charging has been completed. The yellow lamp is lit, when the charging station is connected to the mains supply. 1 2 5. Emergency-Stop: The removable battery also functions as an Emergency-Stop in the unlikely situation that movement occurs without a button being pressed on the hand control. By pulling the battery out of the electronics box, all movement is stopped. The Emergency-Stop is deactivated by pushing the battery into the electronics box and turning it clockwise until the magnets lock the battery in place. Contact your dealer IMMEDIATELY and DO NOT USE the Rise III chair until service inspection and repair has been CARRIED OUT! 4

6. Interference: 7. Safety: Should the electronics on the Rise III interfere with other electrical equipment, contact your dealer IMMEDIATELY and DO NOT USE the Rise III chair until service inspection and repair has been CARRIED OUT! Always follow the instructions below: Never leave person with insufficient body control alone, when lifted Make sure that the hands, legs and feet of the user are not squeezed between parts of the Rise III and other aid products (e.g. wheelchair, bed, or the like) Never use the Rise III in hot surroundings, e.g. in Saunas or in steam baths 8. Daily Inspection and Annual Service Inspection: Daily Inspection: Service: Before using the Rise III, always check the following points: There should be no visual cracks, dents or deformation of any metal part on the Chair All retaining rings should be in place The actuator should not make jarring sounds when activated with load Rise III must undergo at least one service inspection annually by an authorized technician. Service agreements can be made with your dealer. Borringia cannot be held responsible for damage to persons caused by the failure to carry out annual service inspections. 9. Water Ingression: Humidity: Rise III is designed for use in the shower. However, neither the chair nor the electronics should ever be submerged The electronics box is ONLY splash proof if correctly mounted and the battery inserted. If the battery is removed during showering / cleaning, water will enter into the box and the electronics may be destroyed. Failure as a result of this is NOT covered by the warranty. 10. Cleaning: The Rise III is designed to be easy to clean: For daily cleaning, we recommend using wet-wipes either based on ethanol or containing anti-bacterial ingredients. For thorough cleaning, the Rise III may be cleaned in automated washing machines or with saturated steam for up to 1 minute at 90 Celsius (194 Fahrenheit), for 5 minutes at 85 Celsius (185 Fahrenheit) or 10 minutes at 80 Celsius (176 Fahrenheit). Cleaning of the toilet seat and the frame underneath it is easily done. Just pull upwards at the front of the seat and remove it. 5

Depending on the hardness of the water in your region, we recommend that chalk stains be removed every 2 4 weeks. For environmental reasons, we recommend that you refrain from using acids or the like. Simply spray the chair with standard household vinegar and leave it to work for 2-3 hours, then rinse with water. Dry the chair with a cloth. In extreme cases you may want to use a household chalk stain remover. Dilute the product with 4 parts of water before applying to the areas to be cleaned. Always leave the battery in the control box during cleaning as the battery forms an integral part of the system, which prevents ingression of water Never expose the battery to temperatures above 90 Celcius (194 Fahrenheit) for more than 1 minute, 85 Celcius (185 Fahrenheit) for more than 5 minutes or at 80 Celcius (176 Fahrenheit) for more than 10 minutes as this can cause danger of explosion Lubrication: Approx. once a month, apply a bit of Vaseline to the piston of the actuators. 11. Recycling: When the Rise III is taken out of use, you should see to it that the chair is disposed off in an environmentally friendly way. Follow the instructions below: Metal parts: All metal parts are made of steel and can safely be recycled. The painting will not result in any toxic components as a result of recycling. Electronics: The electronics including the batteries should be delivered to a recycling plant equipped to handle electronic waste safely. If in doubt as to whether such a facility is available, please return the electronic components to your dealer, who will then pass these on to the manufacturer for safe recycling. 12.
