KAEFER UAB powerboat team 1
Powerboat sport Powerboat sport it is individual sport, which can be also for children from 8 years old. In this sport sportsmen competes with special equipped sport boats, which according to their power are classified. Every year Lithuanian championship, International competitions, European and World Championships are organized and get much of attention all over the world, KAEFER UAB team members also take part. One of the most popular classes in the world it is F-500. Lithuania in the most important competitions are represented by only Lithuanian participant Glebas Sobciukas. 2
Competition in short Practice, workout; qualifying swims, record runs; Distance: 13 km In European Championship 4 starts, 3 rides are recordable In World Championsip 3 starts, all rides are recordable 3
Powerboat F-500 Boat: Formula ASV (Hungary, 2004 year), safety-cell, oxygen-mask, safety-belts. Engine: Verona Racing Power (Italy, 2005 year), 4 cylinders, max. speed 200 km/h. 4
Powerboat F-500 More about engine: two-stroke, 500 cm3. Reverses per minute 14000. Advantages: >Usually it is double powered than four-stroke, because mixture is ignited every second time, while in four-stroke engine every fourth time. >Engine is much easier, and so power-weight ratio is better >Maintenance of engine is cheaper as it is more simpler and with minimum quantity of moving parts >It is not only easier to maintain two-stroke engine but also to improve it and to raise its power. Fuel used: Spirits for fuel that is bio-ethanol. It is used because of its unrivaled combustion caloric (almost 3 times bigger quantity is combusted in the same time compared to gasoline), castor oil is so far only oil which does not lose its lubrication features at very high temperatures. Spirits and castor oil is also friendly to environment. 5
BioFuel Biofuel that is range of fuels which are in some way derived from biomass. Biofuel is suitable to use in internal combustion engine as fuel. Mostly used types of biofuel are: >Bioethanol (made of raw material which contains starch or sugar) >Biodiesel (made of vegetable oil or animal fat ) >Biogas. Currently, there is a growing interest for ecologically sustainable bio-fuels. The target in the European Union is to increase bioenergy contributions in total energy consumption. According to the International Energy Agency, biofuels have the potential to meet more than a quarter of world demand for transportation fuels by 2050 6
Bio-ethanol Spirits it is plain volatile liquid with specific smell and burning taste, containing mostly of ethanol. Simply it is called ethanol. To produce ethanol raw materials containing starch or sugar are used. That are potatoes, sugar beets, rye, wheat, barley, oats. Ethanol fermented from renewable sources for fuel or fuel additives are known as bio-ethanol. Bio-ethanol is ethanol, produced from biomass and it is used as biofuel. It is most popular biofuel in the world as analogue for gasoline. Raw materials used for bio-ethanol production: >raw material containing sugar: reed, sugar beets >raw material containing starch: potatoes, grain >lignocellulose: timber, straw Usually bio-ethanol is mixed in 5 percent ratio with gasoline and it can be used in normal non-modified engines. In modified engines, which can adjust to fuel, the part of bio-ethanol can be 85 or even 100 percent of all fuel quantity. On the environmental side, 100 percent use of bioethanol would reduce polution in 50-60 percent compared to fossil fuel. Mixture of 5 percent reduces polution in approximately 2.5 3 percent. 7
Production of bio-ethanol While producing ethanol, carbohydrates goes through many intermediate products and are turned into alcohol. Most simly way is to get alcohol form sugar beets or reed, because sugar is turned to alcohol without intermediate products. If starch is used, firstly sugar has to be obtained, and then after fermentation ethanol is derived. In other cycle of bioethanol production fermented mass has to be distilled. In all over the world many efforts are made to improve this production way of bioethanol, because resources are huge. In the picture aside, you can see production process of ethanol, when potatoes are used. 8
